About the owl visit: This was the male owl that visited the nest tree while F23 was incubating. The owls have visited a number of times, and no eagles were present. Hopefully the owls now realize this is an occupied nest, and they need to choose another site they have scouted. This is also the owl's territory, so they will not be leaving. Owls are versatile on nesting sites, and will have to choose another, just as they did for the first 12 seasons here. Raptors share territory, excluding their own from the territory, but not other species. Will we see interactions? We hope we do not. Last season, the owls did not interact with F23 throughout incubation. Will M15 start staying in the nest tree? Probably not, if last season is an indicator. We will have to watch to see what he does. He knows he is vulnerable to repeated strikes if he stays. Will the male try to remove F23 from the nest? The male likely weighs in the two pound range, and the female 3-4#. F23 likely weighs in the 9+ pound range (a guess, not a fact, based on my ground observations of her, and comparing her to eagles whose weight I do know). Owls are more likely to pester (hit & run), than try to challenge an eagle in a fight. I pray there are no interactions.

@Luceforall. Ha! That they do. They are adorable to watch. Their laying time historically has been so close to the eagles, it does cause folks to worry. Please take good care of yourself. @cheryln581. M15 took the fish off the nest this morning, so he apparently ate it. Not sure why F23 didn’t want it. She did eat an entire squirrel yesterday, and who knows what else when she was on break. 💙
Ooops taken!! What a surprise the GHOW had. They may check back just to be sure. Bravo to F23 for warning them to go away and defending her egg; she stayed in her nest. Hopeful the GHOW will find another nest more North so that they all will be able to raise their young in peace and without fear of one another. Thank you very much Androcat. 💙🦅🦉💙
