He is not Steve Perry, his name is Arnel Pineda obviously they are not the same. But he is the only one can sing Journey and nobody else that's why they selected him. Filipinos are very talented. Shout out to Filipinos!!!

Arnel Pineda is the perfect rags to riches story. He comes from living on the street in the Phillapeans would eat off the ground. And no he is not a karaoke singer as an earlier comment says. HE did take singing lessons up til he become homeless at 13 when his mother died. There would be days when living on the streets he would go without food. He did eventually end up in a simple band that was going nowhere as at that time such an opportunity did not exist in the Phils. A TH-cam video of the band playing was found by the band which was seeking a new lead singer.
As for the comparison to Steve Perry, the original singer at the same age Arnel is at the time of the concert you viewed Perry could not hold the same notes at the same level anymore. That being said to be fair it is well known that Human desire for those who come from having little and hunger many times in their life tend to be able to get extra efforts to help them with longevity on tasks that means survival. IN this if Arnel was to come from a country with the spoils of that like the west it is hard to say if he also would at his age be able to hold notes as long as he does. Yes he is extremely talented on the singing front but also in some ways him not being a native English speaker and learning to sing English magnifies ones ability to tone in tighter on the vowel sounds as opposed to someone that is native to the langue.
The real test now can he write music to his voice as Steve Perry has. Voice-wise they are pretty much the same but Arnel is able to hold notes longer without struggling (But life situation motivations helped that along).
In the end, it takes the two elements, not just the singing. (Writing songs to match the voice and also Singing them) But his rags to riches story is worth so much more.

Steve Perry is SP. Arnel Pineda is AP. No need to compare. They have their own style and way of singing. No need to bash. At least I am adoring these 2 singers. They are both gifted. And God give them individual talents. No one is perfect . But both singers SP and AP are awesome. Salute. And thank you for inspiring people like me with your musics many many years and until many many years more to come
!00% agree they both are different singers and have their own style. SP had his era, AP is in his own era now and killing it!! While I like SP, AP moves me to tears when I hear his version of this song. No one can say he doesn't put his heart into the songs he sings night after night in concerts. From about 76 - 83, was the "High Energy" era of ROCK -- high pitched voices -- and it was very successful. Then came, Def Leppard, in 83 with, Pyromania, and almost every new band tried to sound like them.

Journey was dead until Arnel joined and the rest is history. The world from Brazil to the Asian Pacific, Europe and U.S. all embraced Arnel not as a replacement for Steve but with his own style, feelings & energy one can clearly see in his performances. He has revitalized this band for the old legacy crowd to the new fans that have joined to celebrate Journey once again!
Arnel is great, but he's no Steve Perry. Arnel was chosen because he could emulate Perry's voice, and he does a great job. But Perry is not called the " Voice " for no reason. Perry is the best.

This is being sung by Arnel Pineda who took over for Stevie Perry, with his blessing. There is quite a story that goes with this, that would be interesting for you to read about. They tell the story much better than me. Arnel is from the Philippines the land of all the best singers in the world!!! One of the best rock ballads ever written. Arnel has one of the best voices, but more importantly is his presence. Small of stature, with an out-sized voice as is his presence. I never thought Journey could ever replace Stevie Perry who to me had the perfect rock ballad voice of all-time. I was gratefully wrong as Arnel has certainly done that. You should look up a version that has Stevie Perry singing this, I think you will be surprised at how good he is, and how close Arnel is to him in his vocals. I love both versions of this song, and i think you will too. Until the next time.

To all the haters ask yourselves 1) Should Journey have disbanded or stopped touring after Steve left? 2) If you were discovered on TH-cam by Journey and offered the opportunity of a lifetime to sing for them, would you turn it down? Arnel was poor when he was a kid but because of his singing talent Arnel become stable in his life, he sing at famous bar in the Philippines ..like Hard rock cafe, Shakeys, charter box, even at well known places in olongapo. He also work in Japan as a singer for 10 yrs., and he has also several TV guesting before Neal found Arnel on Utube.

Steve Perry is the original vocalist of Journey but when he left, they found the perfect replacement in Arnel Pineda. Same Rock tenor voice, same stage presence and intensity.

Greg Rollie was the original lead singer of Journey, not Steve Perry. Greg and Neal Shon both formed Journey in 1971 when they left the band Santana. Steve came along years later and shared lead vocal duties with Greg until he decided to leave the band. Greg wrote some incredible music for Journey in the 70's.

Metal Mcfly but they did not have a hit until Steve Perry and have not had a hit since he left. Jonathan Cain wrote faithfully. In addition to the voice Steve gave to the group, he also wrote most of the songs with Neal. Arnel is a guy who trained his voice to sound like Steve. The real voice is Steve. Arnel... is like a Steve Perry cover band. And that’s fine but you can’t call it Journey.
You can tell who the haters are and who are the ones that are happy to be hearing these songs some 30 Years + Later
And Steve himself is happy that Arnel is singing his heart out on the songs Steve wrote with Journey. I love the classics, I love where they are, I love where they're going. They can't last forever, but for an evening, it's still such a fun, fun ride.

Steve Perry is an Icon in the past but we have to move on and give Arnel his dues. Armel is a good guy who can sing his ass off, but his era of Journey only makes me miss the original because it was them at their absolute best, and NOBODY can sing like Perry could. I'm a fan of Journey the Steve Perry era. In fact I have almost all their CDs.The advantage of Steve Perry is hes the original singer of this song. But c'mon guys lets face it, dont live in the past. Arnel didnt replace Steve, Journey found him and they need him badly. Without Arnel, Journey would have been dead long time ago. He reasurected the band and earned more for years.

Just in case you didn’t know, if you react to any Journey songs, you should react to the band lineup from 1978-1987, when Steve Perry was the lead singer. That’s what true journey fans recognize as “Journey“. He was the sound of Journey and possessed one of the greatest voices ever heard. Unfortunately he eventually had to leave the band because he fried his vocal cords for the love of his audience, hitting all of those loud, high and protracted notes.
A version of the band Journey is still touring, but with only two long-time members, guitarist Neil Shon and keyboardist Johnathan Cain, who were both around at the height of Journey’s success when Steve Perry was the lead singer.
The lead singer since 2007 is a Filipino named Arnel Pineda, who while possessing an amazing voice which sounds quite a bit like Steve Perry, is just not Steve Perry, like the band is not really Journey. If you don’t have the lead singer of the original band, you really just have a cover band, since Perry sang lead on all of their hit songs.
Here is a link to the performance of Faithfully, that you might want to do another reaction to, because it is the authentic Journey, and it’s also the official music video, which very poignantly portrays the meaning of the song ... being on the road which can be very lonely, separated from your significant other, and trying to assure them that you will be faithful, even though there are thousands of screaming girls in the audience trying to throw themselves at you, everywhere that you go or perform.
The video gives you not only a great, behind-the-scenes look at their touring, but also some footage of them performing the song live in concert, so it’s a double-bonus video. Also the above mentioned Neil Shon and Jonathan Cain are in the video, since they were members back at the time this song was first being performed and was a massive hit (Shon is the nice looking, clean-shaven, shorter guitarist with curly hair) and Jonathan Cain is on keyboards. Shon is the actual composer of the song. He was married at the time, so being on the road was particularly hard for him.
I was very privileged to have seen Journey perform live at the height of their career back in the 80s, and it was one of the best concerts I have ever attended, before or since.

He does a very good job of singing this song, but for those of us who've been listening to Steve Perry sing it for 39 years (original recording)....I still prefer the original. If someone had to replace Perry (and they did) I am glad they got this guy. He does a wonderful job.

Their original vocalist was steve perry... i can say arnel and steve perry have the same voice quality... thats why when steve perry went solo, they picked up arnel pineda when one of the band members happened to see arnel covering one of their song in youtube, the rest was history..

Just accept the fact that steve perry is done with journey....he had his moment, and it was great... I am very pleased that Journey found Arnel Pineda to be the lead singer. His personal story is inspiring and he deserves his success. His voice is amazing and the similarity to Steve Perry's voice is uncanny. However, I have to disagree with many who have commented here. Steve Perry is inimitable, and no one does the classic Journey songs better. Of course, this may be like arguing that strawberry ice cream is better than chocolate -- it's a matter of personal preference -- but maybe voice coaches could judge better than we could. In February of 2023 I will finally get to see Journey perform in concert, with Arnel as lead singer, so I will be looking forward to hearing him in person.
