- Today we brought our canoe out into a backwoods swamp to do some topwater frog fishing! This is such a cool place to fish and we were not disappointed in the results. I love using frogs on Pike in a foot or so of water. The explosion is heart wrenching! I remember stopping for a sandwich one day and I put my rod down with the frog not quite two feet from the surface. As I reached for my lunch a Pike jumped clear out of the water, grabbed my frog and just about lost my rod! Frogs are best. That stretch of water you fished is just beautiful! Way to go Jay!!

Always fun to watch Jay teach Cole about catching the bigger fish in the competition. Great video, and you guys were lucky to make it all the way through on just those 2 lures considering the number of snags and lily pads and heavy grass in the water.

Around here the only thing besides a bass that will bite a frog lure is a huge chain pickerel! Looks very familiar LOL
Northern Pike are good tasting, especially deep fried in Beeer Batter.

Chain pickerel?!!!!! I haven't had any luck finding those around here. Back home I caught plenty when I wasn't trying to. The biggest was almost 34" long and it could swallow a small coffee can. They bite back home when the weather gets colder. Fun fish to catch. They are good eating too

Now days I rarely take to S.C. midlands back waters anymore but love those areas. My favorite for hunting and fishing.

Creeks here used to be loaded with pickeral, but the musky moved up and they’re gone. I’ve caught them, years ago, up to 5 pounds and 28”. Miss catching them.
More swamp, more river, more bass, trout, bluegill, shellcracker, crappie, and those other fish bowfin, cats whatever your fishing for!!! Your editing and natural area filming etc. is the best on you tube!!

Great job Jay. I love how when Cole has a fish he’s all loud and excited and when Jay has one it’s quiet determination. Same at my house. If you want northern pike come on up to Montana. They have good luck ice fishing for them too.
after fishing my whole life with a spinning reel, I bought a really good baitcasting rod and reel when I was stationed down South. Worst fishing experience of my life, haha. the frog lure is awesome

That first fish came with salad. And the next one Jay caught had a grass mustache.
You might want to consider getting a couple of Thermacells for fishing those swamps or anywhere else there are a lot of mosquitos. Just fire them up, attach them to your belt or place near you and you are good to go. I use them for fishing, hiking, working in the yard, and bow hunting. They really work.
