Rebuilding Lockwood STEAM Academy's Schoolyard | Eat. Learn. Play.

Before the big launch and the big announcement-there was a big build! This past September, we threw a very special celebration at Lockwood STEAM Academy, cutting the ribbon on their new schoolyard and announcing our ambitious new effort to transform the school experience for a generation of Oakland Unified School District students. This amazing day was only possible thanks to our dedicated team of partners who came together to build the new schoolyard a few weeks earlier.
In late August, Eat. Learn. Play., KABOOM!, OUSD, alongside a hardworking crew of volunteers, constructed our biggest schoolyard yet, with two new kid-designed play structures, two multi-sport courts, two soccer pitches, a nature exploration area, beautiful murals, and a Little Town Library.
Thank you to the Bhusri family for their generous support, the Lockwood STEAM Academy community, and our village of partners and volunteers for helping to bring the students’ creative ideas to life and providing us with a captivating backdrop for our strategic launch event: Workday, Rakuten, Golden State Warriors, Ripple, Soul Focus, DonorsChoose, Hape Toys, Clif Bar, DJ Agana, Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Ghirardelli, Partake Foods, GoGo squeeZ, Guayakí, Reading Partners, and GOODLES.
