    1. I yearn for a band as clever - and brutally honest - as this to emerge in the present day!
    2. Every Carter album had at least one epic ballad of this sort - but sometimes they were split into two parts. If you want to get wrenched, try "Falling On A Bruise"/"The Final Comedown" or maybe "Spoilsports Personality Of The Year"/"Suicide Isn't Painless"
    3. Behind the unrelenting puns and the barrage of samples, Carter usually had a dead-serious message - try "24 Hours From Tulse Hill", "My Defeatist Attitude", "Billy's Smart Circus", "The All-American National Sport"...or "Look Mum No Hands!" (it's about a suicide bomber, but it's based on a certain 19th century song)

101 Damnations is a remarkable album. This is the final song on the album and closes it perfectly.

It is so interesting that you're wearing a Rolling Stones shirt while reviewing a Carter song. Jim Bob is one of the best lyricists of all time and likes to play games with language and reference other music. One of their earliest singles is After the Watershed (Early Learning the Hard Way), which borrows 3 words from the Stones song Ruby Tuesday, and as a result Mick and Keith share equal songwriting credits on it. You really HAVE to give extra focus to the lyrics on a Carter song, Jim might be the best to ever do it.

Hi Guys glad you enjoyed .. And Chris is right Carter did do another Army theme song. Bloodsport For All .Which got banned form radio as it was when the 1st Gulf war was. I Dunno if that was what Chris was referring to. Great Channel loving it guys good conversation, honest reviews and great song requests.

There was a lot of that going around during the 1st Gulf War. Massive Attack had to re-release their first album under the name Massive. Stupidity knows no limits.

Thanks, Matt, for this request. I admit I wasn't feeling the New Cross song that much. So, glad I had the opportunity to get a different sound and perspective from them. - Greg

One of the best indie bands to come outta England mate!. Along with neds atomic dustbin and new fast automatic daffodils

    • @intothemusic908

Anything in particular that stands out from that last band you mentioned?

@@intothemusic908 oh mate honestly!, there's too many good tracks to choose from. The whole of the body exit mind album is blinding!. The transitioning between the two tracks on the b side , one called "what kind of hell is this?"
And the next track is called "American money". The way American money begins is brilliant. But early tracks like part 4 and reprise are well worth a listen.
If you can find a track by them called I've been set free?, that's fucking brilliant!, but it's not on youtube no more?. And a track off the body exit mind album called bruises.

All our troops die for too little today, but our granddads and great granddads died for our right to have choices. We ain't US fanboys in the UK. We just appreciate how the US had our back in the 40's at our lowest ebb.

The first chorus reminds me of Johnny Get Your Gun, where the guy realizes he lost both his legs and arms

I'd love to see you react to more Carter. A lot of their music is of an acquired taste. I'd call it Brit Pop personally.
Their lyrics are so clever and thought provoking. Every song is a study on some facet of society and to be honest, their politics and way of thinking should be more relevant now than ever.
If everyone on the planet was made to assimilate their discography and seriously ponder their messages, the world would become a much better place over night.

We did that one already. Was our introduction to the band. th-cam.com/video/zqkDRcJ2z74/w-d-xo.html. Just pre-warning that one of us was lukewarm about the song. Were much more unified in liking G.I. Blues. - Greg
