I have two vitex in NC zone 7a and both do not die back even with icing. One is about 20 years old. Bumblebees love them! Thanks for your videos Allen!
@@theheritagehousesc Not sure what the variety was on the old tree. The younger one was a opportunistic seed from the older tree. Luckily both very hardy! Thanks
I have 5 of these and love them all!! I live in the high desert of SoCal in Yucca Valley with the Joshua Trees and Yuccas and my Vitex do wonderfully…. They do go dormant for the winter and bounce back every single spring bigger than the previous year!
I planted a Shoals Creek Vitex on your recommendation, and it's a showstopper! I'm zone 7 and we have more dieback during winter, but it rebounds every year and the bees adore it! Thank you 😊
Good to know about the pruning. Mine will need some. They grow so fast in my yard. They are near a water source and they flourish. And yes like everyone else said they are a pollinator magnet
I have a pink Vitex tree and surely is a pollinator magnet.I want to get a purple one as well. I have mine in a pot but it got too big for it. I need to plant it in the ground this fall.
I have replaced several crape myrtles with vitex and I love them. I'm in Zone 7 and they grow amazingly fast. Thanks for the useful information about pruning. Your trees are beautiful!
WOW... Those Vitex Trees are SPECTACULAR... but I'm not surprised being taken care of by such an expert. Thank you for sharing your knowledge about this bush/tree, I will see if my area would be able to grow some (Rogers, KY :)
There are also incredible guides on Allen's website, too. I was particularly impressed with the guide on Hydrangea and another on Peony. In my opinion, one of the first things we should think of is if this plant is going to really benefit pollinators. These are gorgeous! I have to admit my heart sank when I heard you say zone 7....I'm up in 4b....sigh.
It is an ornamental tree. They may be trained into a "legged up" tree form (as Allen has trained his), or left to go bushy, as one can see in the Facebook video he published on June 27, 2021 (link below). I in sun hot Arabic country, this plant work all the year with full of flowers and bees around it 😅.. maybe 1 month all flowers down but all other months green and full flowers.. 😅 also not need such water.. sorry for my weak English 😅.. in Arabic country this tree work so good and grow quickly all the year except one month it's sleep.. 💐

I’m no expert but I’ve read that they have invasive roots and should not be planted near a septic tank or a house as the roots will destroy the foundation, etc.
We have a question... we love our chaste tree and want more. We are attempting to propagate. We put woody cuttings in water a few months ago. There is no root formation, but the cuttings are beginning to put out green leaves. Will these grow if planted? Or is there a way to promote root growth now? We are in Zone 8b. Thank you!!
Unfortunately the Japanese beetles love the flowers right along with the polinators. It is also worth pointing out that the are amongst the last to leaf out, to the point where it is frequently thought to have died. Be patient!

Wow! I'm surprised! I'm in zone 8a and mine dies down. Maybe a different variety?🤷♀️

Could you video tape when you prune these next time?! I'd LOVE to see this! So beautiful btw! Thanks for all you share!

Nice video ! I have the Shoal Creek variety & a unique white to whitish-pink (pink icing ?) variety
How do you prevent them from self seeding all over the place is my concern in a small yard.
Do we need to cut the flowers after they die and turn to seeds
Yeah for pollinators!
I planted 2 last year and 2 more this year.
The Tucson electric company sells them for $5 each
How far apart and away from a fence should they be planted if you have multi-branched or more bushy form? We are in the Phx area. Thx
These are very popular in hot dry New Mexico.
Love this. Is shoals type a teee or bush?

Allen, do you recommend pruning only the spent flower limbs/seed pods in summer or should they also be taken down with late-winter pruning?
Is this the same as a CHASE Tree
YES -- good catch!
Chaste tree

mine bloom in mid May and wanted to know should I remove the old buds?
Awesome! What Variety?...spelled? Shouls Creek? and the place to buy?...H. Wild & Son? Thank you!

Are shoal creek safe to plant about 8 feet from a septic field?
I’m no expert but I’ve read that they have invasive roots and should not be planted near a septic tank or a house as the roots will destroy the foundation, etc.
How can I care for this in a zone 6 on a pot? I read that it does not require a lot of water and seems sad and I am scared to over water it 😵💫

6 inches of 50 / 50 damp sand and peat moss for roots. Keep it in the shade for
3-6 weeks.
omfg i nvr knw that it can grow to such a size. im mind blown
sure! my main concern is how it looks when i’m looking across my orchard to my river 😂

Mine is pink! That's what I get for paying $6.95 for a 1-gallon plant! The hummingbirds love it.
😅 i take it you don't prefer pink flowers? Me neither.
Shoals Creek?
In Arabic, it's called "the Hand of Marry" lol. Nice tree
I have a vitex, but it doesn't bloom like that!

I know they grew in Lake Jackson , Texas zone 9b !
