    Great video! Disappointing when dealers don't price their books or expect to inflate their prices based on slabbed values. This is why I determine my own price points for raws I'm looking to purchase by rolling back grading fees, taxes, shipping, and other hidden costs from the slabbed value to see if the raw is in the correct price range.

    Hello! I put all my bronze age books in Silver-Age bags & boards . I put all my Silver-Age books in Golden-Age bags (Mylar) & boards (Double and triple boards by the way.) You said it yourself, and at some point we all drop a book. With the extra size board, the book will survive the fall.
    Next point: You are so right about dealers asking "CGC" prices on ungraded books. I buy ungraded books and don't want to pay sky high prices for someone's opinion.

    • @CollectorAuctions
      @CollectorAuctions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's to the point you are better off just buying the graded version, especially if you want it graded anyway. I had 1 dealer that I'm friendly with. Ome right and say he prices raws higher as people get them graded and make so much more money. Trust me, I didn't forget that. Luckily his prices are terrible, and I get a little some off even if it's one book anyway.

    I've had this price hike issue on raw copies for uncanny xmen 130, the book I should have bought last yr when I was really interested in getting the best xmen first appearances in a decent grade. But I've always been a Gambit fan and I pulled the trigger on 266 instead of 130 and now im regretting it because of this Taylor swift hype. Pretty much every listing of this book actually mentions Taylor swift. I get it with the hype and whatnot but I'm seeing raw copies equalling graded copies prices across the board on ebay and a couple other places. Probably gonna have to wait until this movie comes out and all the hype dies to add it to my collection of xmen firsts. Theres plenty others I need such as 129 so that's what I'm targeting now instead. Damn Taylor!

    Some prices dropped so fast the last year or two it’s tough to keep up. I know with wall books some dealers won’t cut good deals unless they have a surplus of big keys. If you’re wall is all mediocre crap people talk shit and if your prices are too high people will talk shit. It’s a tough balancing act when you’re dealing in collectibles. You can’t just buy new inventory whenever you need it.

    • @CollectorAuctions
      @CollectorAuctions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I get it. The market is ever changing. And I get the prep time aspect, as I have trouble just keeping up with my own ebay/shortbox pricing. But as a buyer, if I see most of your books are overpriced on your wall, I can't even jump in your bins now. But at least most dealer gave prices unlike one dealer at this show who doesn't price anything ahead of time. He not only greatly overpriced books but then steals your time waiting on looking up the books.

    • @wayneweidman1543
      @wayneweidman1543 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CollectorAuctions dealers should be transparent with prices. I can’t stand when comic book shops don’t have prices marked. Some dealers are all about the haggling. I recently bought a wall book the dealer had priced at $300. I got that one and four of his $5 books for $150 cash. The eBay price of the $300 book was around $200 at the time so his sticker price was insane.

      @wayneweidman1543 I always have cash on hand, so at least I'm prepared.

  • @jonr269
    @jonr269 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    The major keys you see on their wall that are overpriced are just there to get attention. And if a sucker is dumb enough to buy it. Then that money in their pocket, cause at the end of the day they don’t care if the wall books sell as much as the box books.
    I know a seller who literally has nothing but major keys in his wall and no real 1$ books. But to him he doesn’t care if he only sells 1 wall book cause he knows someone will buy them as his booth space is usually free for him to set up at.
    But there are other vendors who sell at real prices and willing to come down if the deal is right for them. But as someone mentioned alot of dealers who sell books that are over priced usually go out of business and you never see them at cons anymore. Cause they think this is a quick cash grab and don’t realize the work that goes into doing cons.

    • @CollectorAuctions
      @CollectorAuctions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Trust me, the high prices run thru their boxes too. I'm sure they get enough people com8ng back l, or maybe they are actually working better deals, but I always feel if younare too high I can't even talk to you.

    Do these dealers actually sell any books or are they just there to show them off? Is anybody uninformed enough to buy these disgustingly overpriced books? Does their whole business depend on selling to the ignorant collectors with money? If so, I guess good for them, but for me they're making comic shows mostly a waste of time because of their ridiculously high prices. I see a book priced 2 or 3 times fair value or higher and I walk away immediately. You go to one of these shows and you've got to work like hell to find anything at a near fair price.

    • @CollectorAuctions
      @CollectorAuctions  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think they are just getting enough sold to keep coming back. In our area there are basically 2 shows and both are basically monthly. You get the same dealers mostly over and over, so now I know better who over prices. Trust me though I still look as there are certain books I still want but I may not spend time digging at your booth, just wall shopping.

      Great video! This trend of pricing raw books at CGC prices is really frustrating and disrespectful to us. I walk away as well, it’s always the same sellers and you will see the same high priced book on their wall at every show, so nobody is buying it, but they could care less. I have noticed that these old school dealers sell their big boy books to the older collectors (60 and up) who don’t keep up with eBay sales are FMV like most do. They collected in a time where all they had was the Overstreet Price Guide that came out once a year. The excitement of going to shows has really diminished for me as well. I buy a lot of my books online now.

      I don't think they see it, but in one case I'd say the dealer is delusuonal. He has no prices and has to total it up for. I liked the mini rant. Yeah I have done shows. I would do about 8 short boxes. Always stuff I had not brought anywhere. It would wipe me out. Never had time to organize. But people would search that knew I left meat on the bone and that I discounted. I gave people that set up at show 30% Off But I did miss out on some sales as some people would be looking for certain books and I could not remember what I had and they didn’t have time to go through every box. So yeah I was a bit of a mess. My books were in clean bags and Mylar and I always noted conditions. It’s just a lot of work.

      @@CollectorAuctions Rusty. It’s a bit slow. From what I have noticed. My sales are mostly 2/3 comics and 1/3 other things. I have a full booth of toys. Postcards old things. Sports memorabilia etc. pottery and glass are really slow. Sports sells pretty good as well as video games. 80s toys LPs. But values of some things are just not there any more. I do take a loss on some things. Also mall fees take away from profits and then there is theft. There has always been theft. And customers damage things. Also a lot of work. Some malls require you to work one or two days a week or charge an additional percentage of sales. So I am making it sound bleak. I love it. It’s interesting to me. Been doing it for over 30 years. I meet a lot of great people while I am pricing and restocking. But it’s not for everyone. To just get rid of things fast, an auction house may be an option. Jess
