I love all of your videos,Kaylee. I would like to offer a suggestion regarding freezing your jewelweed and other plants. Instead of zip lock bags I use vacuum sealed bags. They not only take up less space in your freezer but they are reusable as well! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us 💚
I could not sleep for some reason, so I got up and started watching videos and somehow I got over to your page and I had to subscribe, once I heard you mentioning and giving credit to our Heavenly Father for all of the beauty in nature and the design and how perfect the order of it truly is! Thank you!😊
I was on my way home from pulling a 12 hrs shift listening to you speaking in Bluetooth while driving. I knew where a rather large patch was and drove there, grabbed a few plants and am just now labeling 2 full quarts while listening to this video again. Sweet and informative video! I will be looking for Jewel weed on treks along the creek! I do have a rash that will not go away and would be so happy if the Lord would reveal a cure while I’m on my walk with Him! 💖
Loved seeing you take your Grandma out to help harvest and help you. From her expression, it was a great outing for her...would love to see more of her and you in the future. ❤
Ive just found you. Love your videos. Such a gift that you have your grandma. I think thanking both God, the Creator, and the plant that's giving its life, is a very good and grateful place. 😊
I learned of Jewel Weed when I was hiking the AT. Absolutely the best antihistamine in the woods! I would harvest some juicy stalks when I found them and tuck them in my pack, when you get an irritation (bug bite, STINGING NETTLES, poison ivy, etc) it will remedy your issues! I split the stalk with my finger nail and rub the juicy flesh on the irritated area. IT WORKS!!! (And the seeds are fun to harvest...they 'pop' open)
Loving your content so much. What I really resonate with you and your mom is that you are life long learners. I tend to get a little intimidated by all the knowledge some herbalists have and foolishly think that all that knowledge lives in their head at all times. Watching you refer to books and letting us know that you are going to research topics lets me know that you never stop learning what you need to know. I know that experience helps to make you more comfortable with plants and their benefits, but seeing and watching you guys continue to learn new techniques, plant id and recipes gives me a feeling of peace. You are a credit to your Grandmother. She clearly is so proud of you and the knowledge you possess. Just bought the Peterson book!
I wondered what that plant was....its all over my property, in the borders, along with, blackberry, wild rasberry, lambsquarters, poke and of course poison ivy. The more I hit it with the weedeater, the more it grows and comes back with a vengeance. ....thanks, now I have a use for it.....Central Jersey.....also appreciate the goldenrod education....another prolific plant here.
I LOVE videos featuring grandma! Thank you so much for this..we have tons of poison ivy down by our pond but I've been unable to locate jewelweed. I didn't realize it was so big, or that juicy!
I very rarely will sit and watch an entire youtube video. Same goes for a tv program or movie. However, I become so immersed in your content. I love the woods, nature and above all else our lord and savior Jesus Christ as you do. Perhaps that is why. I have sat here the past several days and consumed so much of your content and knowledge from beginning to end. This information you are passing along is indeed priceless to future generations. May God bless you and your family. As always "To God Be The Glory".
Hummingbirds love the flowers, I have lots of it growing around my porch, once it blooms the hummingbirds show up. I make jewelweed soap, I infuse the jewelweed into the lard and also boil the jewelweed in water to use when I make the soap... old fashioned lye soap made with lard is very good at cutting the oil from the poison oak off your skin...
I remember popping those seed pods as a kid. Had more fun. Did not know the plant was a treasure chest of healing. Love the fact that it grows near poison ivy. Perfect planning.
We have these ALL over our property. One of the twenty plants I identified and harvested to make medicinals and this is our first year here. There are so many wild edibles all around us sometimes I wonder why I sow seeds. Worship the Creator not His creation. 🙏 It is so awesome you get to spend time with your grandmother. I have noticed those of us who lost our grandparents when we were young due to them being smokers. Even though I love tobacco I know if I want to live a long life I should quit. I've heard smoking raspberry leaf, catnip and mullein help to minimize cravings and heal lungs.
I quit smoking and it was easy /hard...see it's easy to decide to do it and just do it just determin that that is it. I smoked since I was 13 was 62 when I finally quit . Tried many times but I developed asthma after covid and struggling to breathe was my "going to do it this time." I almost caved in many times but didn't and I'm much better but still have asthma. The other reward was friends and family were so proud of me and that made a big difference too..backsliding would really make a lot of people sad so I have told the old devil No not even one puff off of the husbands when he's not looking temptation will always be there but the longer you go the easier it gets... I'm around smokers all the time. Husband for one and after 4yrs. It's not a problem . 🙏
Apple cider vinegar all by itself is my gotoo for poison ivy when it's just beginning to be irritated. Love your apothecary! Thank you for all you delivery of Wisdom and doing!
I always love that you give God thanks for the medicine he had given us! I love learning so much from you. I wish Oklahoma was closer would love to come to one of your workshops….maybe one day…
I have this in my yard and had planned to cut it down. Glad I waited. Now I need to get some witch hazel. Boy, I wished I knew about this years ago. When I first moved here, for 4 years straight I ended up with poison ivy. Your grandmother is so sweet. I miss my grandma. She was my rock growing up. I learned so much from her.
Same! My Nan was a literal tree hugger before her time…she would stop and put her arms around a big oak. lol. Loved her so-she taught me so much about nature.
As a kid Jewl weed would grow along the wood line in the backyard. Poison Ivy did too. I loved to pop all the seed pods by just gently touching them and watching how far the seeds would pop out. Bing, Bing, Bing. 8 inches, 12 inches, the tail one went 2 feet! Lol. My dad would tell me to rub the sap on my Poison Ivy if I had any.
Awww, how sweet your grandma is loving ❤️ helping with the herbs 🌿 and you're so sweet to include her in your TH-cam ❤ Thank you for teaching, I will be ordering more books .it's never too late to learn. I'm 57 and just getting knowledge and loving it .thank you so much 💓
I do not have first-hand experience with poison ivy/oak/sumac exposure, but I would instinctively go to plantain weed. It's what I use on bug bites and the plains tribes used it for rattlesnake bite because of its drawing power. I've also used dock weed for the same purpose. But, if I ever come across jewelweed, I will try that too. Thanks for a fantastic video.
I have been looking for some in my area recently. I just found some last week, but its in an awkward spot. So I'll need to figure that out. I want to make a salve. I've not worked with it before so thank you for doing this video. Yes, praise the Lord for all His good gifts!

Hey 👋 I have jewel weed all along my Creek. I’m so glad that you did this video about using it for poison ivy and poison oak honestly the only time I thought I could use it was if I got into the stinging nettles while I was harvesting them and it does work great for stinging nettles by the way, the juicy stems you just rub them on your area that’s affected, and it instantly numbs the area like nothing I’ve ever experienced. I am very inspired by your channel and I’ve ordered a couple of the books that you have shared. I’m so thankful to be on the path of getting back into my herbal studies again, God bless you sisters.
I make jewelweed salve all the time. I put a breathable cover over the oil as it is infusing and have no trouble with it going rancid. I did a quick infusion on my batch last fall (over 90 - 100 degree heat in oil 8-12 hours like you'd let yogurt cure). I have a batch going right now from air dried jewleweed. It is possible to air dry it without getting mold. I'm in the humidity south too. I chop up leaves, flowers and stems and lay out in a thin layer inside. Toss every few hours and by next day they were crispy. I'm sure there was still a bit of moisture in there, but they felt completely dry and the leaves crumbled at that point. I jar them tightly and cover with oil at that point. I used a piece of paper towel and canning ring as a breathable cover for a few days. Then covered with a solid lid and shake every day or so until I'll strain it at the 6 week mark. Then I make it into a salve. I grabbed my jar of jewelweed oil and used it straight the last time I grabbed an entire handful of poison ivy. It worked and I never got a rash. I'm going to try your witchhazel method for a spray option. Eta: We have jewelweed that covers entire mountainsides (I'm in far WNC). It is both orange and yellow (different varieties in separate patches).
@karenjones9422 I use olive oil. My basic recipe is 4 parts infused oil to 1 part bees wax. You can play with those ratios a bit for a thicker or thinner salve.
@@melkrist Thanks so much for your reply! I get excema and rosacea and really want to try this as jewelweed grows all over here and the Rx cream I get from my Derm costs $70!

Jewel Weed is also known as Touch-Me-Not plant. You mentioned that they self seed so if you look closely you’ll notice that they naturalize by a sort of expulsion of their seeds from the pods. When you touch the pods, they burst open and the seeds pop out to disperse. I like that you mentioned it does tend to grow near poison ivy. 😊
I want to share I've been freeze drying all my tomatoes raw....i deseed them then grind them up with the skins then prefreeze them the out come is a brilliant red Styrofoam looking piece which i then break up into powder then jar and seal... im making spaghetti tonight with it my thoughts are to reconstitute it slowly to control the thickness which i like thick with all the seasoning in it thus no long simmering process same for tomatoe soup which we love... i powdered onions also but in slices not griding up too many tears... for me this all shortens the time over hot stove and boiling bath water.....this year was the first in a long time ive had a bumper crop so we will see GOD Bless
Hello and God bless. First, I just want to say you are so blessed to have your grandma with you and it is so beautiful to see you give her small tasks and time spent with her. I can see why God is blessing you as you are caring for our seniors and loving on her. So sweet. Second, what a great find that is in nature for us! I am in TX so not sure if that is available here but, being originally from east coast (CT) I will be on the lookout. Thank you!
I don’t believe I’ve seen this in the Pacific Northwest. We do however have soap root which is also an excellent remedy for poison oak & often grows near it. The bulb like root was used for washing by native Americans who also used it to shock fish for catching. The fibers surrounding the root was used as hair combs. It resembles a spider plant.
Great video! I need to have this plant in my life. Will start keeping an eye out for it. You might want to try a batch using a stick blender to macerate the plant's flesh in the witch hazel. Make a pulp that you can press or freeze it. God bless you.
Just had your channel pop up on my feed and was interested in the title because we have so much poison ivy on our property and my son and I seem to always get it. And I'm pretty sure we have a bunch of this down by our creek and when I seen it I was in awe of it because all of the little yellow flowers all over it. I'll have to use my plant identification app and make sure it's this but I'm pretty sure it is.
There was a white-headed white-bearded older gentleman at the homestead festival talking about herbalism. He talked about another plant that he said worked way better than jewelweed. I would have to go back & watch the video again & take notes.
I actually was going to buy that book thank you for the reminder.. ❤ we have problems these days with toxic people i hope they start to realize that what they do goes back to them 10 times over including messing with the earth. Love your videos makes me always want to smash the button. Kindness goes so far. God Bless
I was just wondering about jewelweed last week...Ialso happened to be near some poison ivy clearing out some sumac. It's wonderful to hear this info and realize my inner guidance is working! Thank you so much for these videos...so sweet to see your Grandma too; I can tell she is proud of you. 🌱🥰✨💟
This is what I've been trying to identify! It's all over by the creek and the flowers reminded me of tiny pitcher plants. Lol. We just moved last year and I've only now started to try and identify all the plants in the woods and along the creek.
Spent the summer looking for this and finally found some one day when not even looking :). I did dry my out, took a couple weeks. its all chopped up in a jar now. I have been told from some others they have dried theirs and made salves and they work.
Thanks for the idea of putting it in a spray. Ive made the ice cubes for years and also make a lotion, but a preventative preparation is a good idea too.

The bulb like root was used for washing by native Americans who also used it to shock fish for catching. The fibers surrounding the root was used as hair combs. It resembles a spider plant.
"I thank God," yes! ❤❤❤
Great video! I need to have this plant in my life. Will start keeping an eye out for it. You might want to try a batch using a stick blender to macerate the plant's flesh in the witch hazel. Make a pulp that you can press or freeze it. God bless you.
That's Yahuah for you! I'd love to see more of His work like this❤
Your channel is my go to when I want to know more about Herbs ! Excellent information!
Wonderful, i just came across your videos and im blessed.
I 100% agree! I love Jewel-weed, I have been using it for the past 4 yrs now. soaps, lotions oils sprays, you name it...hands down my go too
There was a white-headed white-bearded older gentleman at the homestead festival talking about herbalism. He talked about another plant that he said worked way better than jewelweed. I would have to go back & watch the video again & take notes.
I love you gave God recognition for creating the herbs that heal us! Also what music did you use in this video? I love it!
Kaylee, where did you get that beautiful rucksack basket from
Another great plant to add to the jewel weed witch hazel mixture would be plantain.
Blessings!!
Hummingbirds, love them
This is what I've been trying to identify!
Thank our Father in heaven .....w/o ....apologies....also love how the seed pods pop open..
I love your times with your grandmother! How long will the Witch Hazel tincture last?
