This works, but another way is to just save the project as a new one, then delete all the files, automation and zero everything out. Then save as Project Template under File. This is how I do it anyway. Another good video. Thx for all you do.
Nice work! I've been doing a variation of this, but I'm going to try your process to streamline my next project. My normal process was to copy my project to another folder with all files, then clean it up and finally create the template for that. Thanks Chris, as alwasy!!
I do it similarly. I just save the project as a template, pull up the template, delete everything I want gone, and then re-save it with the same title and replace it.
Thank you for this! My biggest issue was even after deleting the files in region, the overall size of my project still was showing 200GB+ The key is clearing out the files in the Browser tab off to the right of the template! Thanks
Thank you Chris, YOU ARE A BLESSING! God Bless you. I think, once you delete the files from the "Project Browser" you also have to go to the "File" drop down menu, then choose "Project Management", then choose "Clean Up..." to make sure that there are no backup files or information stored in the Template. I hope this helps :)
Thanks! The option to create a template from a session and automatically remove regions, audio file and automation would be an amazing feature. Cheers!
Hey Chris! Love your videos. If I have an x amount of tracks, and I want to apply a template that I have made to it to automatically adjust faders, plugins, etc - can I do that. Or do I have to load up a template then upload the tracks to into the template? Hope this reaches ya. Cheers.
More general bit related question. Does this mean that when I do save a project with audio files and all other options checked, that I am creating additional audio files of say a sample that I stored in a sample folder or synth instruments that are stored in their rightful place? It feel like I’d end up exponentially taking up space with copies of the same things this way.
Are there news on that matter? it's a drag to follow that method, and I have in the past, erased audio that Logic considered common to both the new template and original project. risky stuff. Has Apple implemented a proper template "empty" ?
it's so crazy how I just decided to make my own template this week and everybody is uploading these kind of videos. (I didn't lookup on TH-cam so they are not tracking me)
So when I save as to my desktop, I uncheck audio files and alchemy audio data. I then save it. It obviously copies all the audio files in alchemy audio data, because it tells me that it is I then open the new file on the desktop and yes, it has copied everything over even though I told it not to. Not only that, but when I deleted the save as file from my desktop, it deleted all of the audio from the original project. That is all gone now. WTF.
Great - A 'Saving Template' protocol. 'Saving Template' with audio files and automation, tempo changes - has always been frustrating - never need those things saved along with the template. I hope Logic Pro X - future version will make this simpler....until then...
satch72 Whenever you make your template, just load whatever plugins you want on any tracks and all of it will be saved. My mix template has all my processing busses and fx busses with the plugins loaded and ready to go. Or you can save as a new project, delete everything except the delays and reverbs, and then save that as a template. Hope this helps.
Very late to answer... but Yes, 2 different ways that I know of... 1. Import Session Data: th-cam.com/video/rGxPh6Z5-Kw/w-d-xo.html and 2. Save Channel Strip Setting: th-cam.com/video/nw6XuOHjLqk/w-d-xo.html
Gareth Frow package is fine if the project will never be moved or shared. With folders you can easily share with someone by just compressing the project folder. Packages are brittle and I stay away from them. Packages don’t port over for sharing very well.
Good video, but, yep it's a huge shortfall in all DAWs as best I can tell, you can't just save the current work as a template. Seems like a no brainer for them to allow it, right?... how many years and counting LOL.
Great video. A few weeks back you had a video where you filmed yourself in it. Up until then in my mind you looked like a geeky Harry Potter. You look totally different. More like a biker dude. Still like your vids though.
Wow that's super complicated.. imagine doing that every time you wanna start a new project 🙉 too many steps... In this case Logic definitely doesn't rule..sorry🙈
No, you save it ONCE as a pre-configured template with your go-to stuff already tracked and bussed - this is a great time saver & I recommend this to anyone starting a new project. I have different templates for different types of projects - it's a really convenient way to start.
Chris you can quickly delete all automation by going to the Mix menu and selecting “delete all automation on all tracks”
This is huge

Isn't that exactly what he did, except Logic considers a Template and Project file different?
You, sir, are a life saver! Was loading templates asking for missing files and such nonsense - this solved the problem.

What is the key command to 'zero out' your levels simultaneously in your mixer window? (3:42) Thank you
Thank you for this! My biggest issue was even after deleting the files in region, the overall size of my project still was showing 200GB+

Damn massive projects
Super tip .. with the help of this vid i manage to del all the files were coming with new template
Thanks
Straight forward, easy to follow, nice tutorial. Thanks for saving me from pain!

Solved a problem I have had for over a decade! Nice one and thank you 😀
Great! Question: How can I set Logic to open the new session window and not open the last Logic session whenever I click on the Logic icon?
thanks bro, we are going to try it!

DUDE!!! awesome work around, Sick! new sub here, Cheers
Good job, Chris

Beyond awesome!!!

This was illuminating.
Is there a way to put old logicx stems into a new template and work from there?
thank you good sir. Life saver.
Let’s say if I bought a template for sounds how can I save the sounds that they use into my logic library to use without open that template
it's so crazy how I just decided to make my own template this week and everybody is uploading these kind of videos. (I didn't lookup on TH-cam so they are not tracking me)

Hey man have you ever felt the need for a Control Surface
Cheers Chris
Question? is there a way to grab just the delays and reverbs in one project and save them to throw on another project?

@@btmariano Thanks. For the responses. So which do you recommend?
Make a video on the 10.5 Logic update!!! :o
Thanks for this. This is one case where Logic Pro X does NOT rule.
SUPER!!
Grt wrk

Jezus Christ. Talking about a user friendly daw. ONE splash screen with 3 checkboxes "Include A. Audio B. Midi C. Automation" is all it takes.
Once you have saved a template, how do you delete a template?
Once you have saved a template, how do you delete a template?
Not the most intuitive, but go to /Users//Music/Audio Music Apps/Project Templates and delete them from there. Then logic won't find 'em.
Ow yeah... yep... you are the best

No clue why logics made it hard like that, needs an update
What is the point of calling a copy of the project with all the files a template?
Cool...
Why are you doing it the Long and Difficult way. Use set up the clean template and save it from the start.
Wow that's super complicated.. imagine doing that every time you wanna start a new project 🙉 too many steps... In this case Logic definitely doesn't rule..sorry🙈
You do it once. Not every time. That’s yer point if a template.

I thought there is a one click easy solution...
This is realy complicated
