It was a hearty ‘Skol’ to Daniel Stahl as the powerhouse Swede delivered on his season-long vow to be world champion, scrapping his way to the discus title in a tight, tense competition.
The Diamond trophy winner has dominated the 2019 campaign, hurling the 2kg disc 71.86m for joint fourth on the world all-time list, but today was not a day for unleashing monster throws simply to win gold, which he did courtesy of a best of 67.59m.

I read the title as "men discuss final" and i expected a bunch of men seated in a circle talking about who will win the championship

Why so little coverage of the Men’s Discus Final? Is it related to wanting to boot discus from the Diamond League? Discus is one of the oldest Athletics events, and in today’s society, is being phased out for spectators? This is reminiscent of the ISSF agreeing to removing THE principal rifle event, 50 m Rifle Prone, from the Olympics, using the excuse “it isn’t a spectator sport”. Really? People don’t normally watch sports they have no idea about. But there is a huge fan base for Rifle Prone that are now suffering, as well as all the athletes! We do not want to see all of the discus community go down this path as well. Please World Athletics, release any more footage you have from Doha!

It's unfair with discus throwers.
This is so true of any of the throwing events. I am often annoyed at the meagre time given to these events.
Discus was my fav event in high school. I did steeplechase and discus. Weird combo, but I really loved it!
Steeplechase and discus is a beautiful combination. I just fell in love.
Too bad we didn't see anyone throw besides stahl like 90% of the time and the two other guys on the podium. Such a pitty...It's not this channels fault, it's the organizers

Yeah it's always like this. They do take all the time for the 10.000m runners, but showing more than 6 throws in a discus final is not possible. So sad

Oktaviu pretty sure swedish television paid for extra television time for Stahl since he is such a big deal for sweden , not 100% sure though

It's no surprise only handful of throws were shown. World Athletics and especially Sebastian Coe HATE discus throw! It's very sad as discus is one of the most iconic field events. I really hope athletes start protesting more againts these idiotic changes like removing discus throw from the Diamond League! World Athletics is in really bad hands. Sebastian Coe is trying to kill all field events!
to be honest this is the worst throw sport ever !! Athletics in general depend mostly on power! that's why they separate men and women. of course because men powerful than women
but in this particular event you can see women's winner throw over 69 meter however men's winner less than about 2 meters !!
me personally would like this would be deprecated for ever..
@@alsemany that is because in men's event metal disc weigh (2kg) twice as that of women event.
@@ManojKallianpur yes sir I know but who says that shot put, Javelin or hammer weight are the same. even if the difference between men't and women's record on shot put are close but makes sense a little bit , I know also that discus is one of the iconic sports with this old sculptures figures but the game losses a lot of popularity,
I respect the history but really don't like it compared by any other throw games

@@ManojKallianpur Discus is one of those events where it's more interesting to the people that also do it. Like, during my track season and even during my off season I love watching this kind of thing because it's my event

The quality of the throw and the match is almost good and I am an Iranian thrower and I am familiar with the dear myth of Daniel Starr.And I have to say that everything is the same in training to form in the competition

8:00 dacres is all about power and speed rather than rythm and technique 😂 cmon dacres has supreme technique, he was 110kg few years ago and I bet he aint half as strong as Stahl 😄
I was about to make this comment! How on earth can you say Dacres isn't about rhythm and technique? Sure, hes got a lot of speed, but it complements his great technique, which is highlighted by his nice sweep, power position, and opening of the hips with his right leg still bent and grounded to create a great finish/strike. Which makes it all the more impressive being that it is executed at the speed that he throws. Incredible athlete who uses power and speed, but definitely not in the absence of technique like this announcer is making it out to be smh
Was looking for this comment. The way she spoke about Dacres’ during his first throw versus how she then spoke about Stahl right after him. Very obvious difference in her disposition.

I have no idea who provides the commentary here. But is there really no one with a decent knowledge off throwing events? Seems it's even hard to see how far the implement flew... Both here and in the hammer throw, shot put,... aside from the name of the thrower and the distance given on the screen, they don't know anything about technique what so ever. There is more to athletics then running and jumping, but WA would probably like to see it otherwise. Starting with the Diamond leaugue first.
Word on the street is that STAHL is a 'specimen'.............

Wr would probably be over 80m if that was the case so further. Thats why women throw 1kg discus so they throw about the same distances as the men.
