    Also when you change the gears in the rear you need to change the speedo gear tooth to get the speedometer reading right again

    I will tell from experience a wide open 454 big block is like a feeling you can’t imagine. These modern engines are powerful and these cars can handle it with their frames. A 454 on a car frame built in 69 at full throttle. *Insert Johnny bravo woah momma voice* lol great video, I’m in love with the car keep up the vids

    Yeah man, I'm glad that you had your Father with you when you dropped the beautiful Classic Car Chevrolet Camaro off. It's just a great thing that you are sharing this experience with him. I even a bigger fan more. I'll be watching all your videos, keep your Dad involved. It's going to be the best time years of your life sharing this with your Father. Can't wait until the next video, and I really hope that you keep him involved with everything you do to the Beautiful Classic Chevy Camaro.

    Hey Nick.
    Loving your new '69 Camaro. Here is a tip for you from a guy who has been there.
    I've built a bunch of '69 Camaros starting in the late '70's in high school, and you can learn from my experiences.
    Definitely a good idea to put a safety chain on the driver's side of the engine between one of the accessory bolt holes on the front of the head, and bolt the other end of the chain to the sub frame with the chain not pulled tight. With a solid rod throttle, when the motor mount breaks, and the driver's side mount will, the engine will lift on the driver's side and the solid rod throttle will hit the intake manifold or valve cover depending on routing, and the torque from the motor will pull the throttle to wide open. Then when you take your foot off the gas, the throttle will still be at wide open throttle, and the only way to throttle back will be to slap it into neutral and turn the key off at the same time so the RPMs don't go thru the roof, and let the engine drop back down on the mounts. The chain will prevent the engine from lifting in case the motor mount breaks.
    You can change to solid motor mounts with no rubber to separate, but the vibrations are annoying.
    The first time this happens to you, you won't forget it. A couple of bolts and a small length of chain is cheap insurance .
    Make sure if it does happen, you turn the key back just enough to kill the engine, and not enough to lock the steering wheel.
    Take care Bud. Speed safely.

    You can see threads showing on the linkage, loosen the jam nut and adjust. If all the adjustment is used up shorten the rod and cut some new threads.

  • @clayschevy66
    @clayschevy66 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    You need a set of headers on that big block. Need more flow lol
    You should be able to shorten that rod that goes to the carb or put a bend in it....which should give you more pedal travel which will give you full throttle .

  • @mrjimbobtx

    The throttle arm where it connects to the firewall was a pain for me in my big block 67. Had to grind the arm down to clear the head. I was then able to shorten the rod to the carb and it brought the peddle off the floor and allowed wide open throttle.

    Pop Mazzoc. I tried solid mounts. With a choppy cam there is way too much vibration. With the power steering pump shield you have to really look to see the safety chain. I'll take safety every time. To each his own.

  • @deepbass0

    too late now but best compromise would be a built 4L60 trans, so u get the short 1st gear and the overdrive, and a 3:42 rear gear... and maybe a 2400 stall converter...

  • @mattmec85
    @mattmec85 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whoever had it before you obviously had it on the old granny setup with a 3.08 gear and a limited throttle linkage. You already took care of the gear. All you need to do to fix the throttle (temporarily) is to literally turn a couple of nuts to shorten the linkage and get more pedal travel.

    When you change the gear ratio, if you dont change the speedometer drive gear on the transmission, or put taller tires on it, you will show the same mph at same rpm as the old gear. But you're going slower than the speedometer says by the % difference.

    Nick that car had a small block from the factory that uses a throttle arm , it wont work with a big block , it needs to
    be changed to a cable , and it will get full throttle , The problem is the arm hits the back of the head
    with a big block , cause of its size.

    Those gears basically just turned 3rd gear into 2nd, 4th into 3rd and so on. The torquey big block doesn't care. Should have left it because first gear doesn't have traction anyway. I daily drive a supercharged 350 with a turbo 400 and can't wait to install a 4L80E with overdrive and a lockup converter so I'm not screaming at 4000rpms on the highway. It's more for putting less wear and tear on the motor.

    Unless you change the speedometer gear in the transmission it's likely that the RPM's would not change it all. The car still thinks you're going 65 but now your Speedo will be off quite a bit you're probably only doing 55. Check it with your GPS on your phone or some other device
