Nick all your missing is a Old School big thumping cam for your big block to make her sound mean and nasty while idling. Plus nice HP gains from it now that you have a good exhaust on her.
I personally would definitely prefer the old school cars because they have a very unique and unbeatable sound. However I daily a 2017 Mustang GT and the newer cars can definitely hold their own. I would take either one in a heartbeat
Love the old school Camaro , I drove a 68;Camaro from high school till about ten years ago. Sold it due to health and got a fifth gen, now I have a 2018 2 SS 6 gen. Never driven any other car other than a Camaro. Also owned many others over the years , restores and sold quite a few. Miss those days, rock on.
There's a few little things that should be done to it but putting the stock engine in a nice old camaro that's only half way nice interior headliner look ✔
Wow, amazing what technology can do in terms of the newer performance cars. That late model 5th gen with more weight and a little less HP was pulling that 454! Huge props to the LS3. Now throw a small turbo or supercharger on that LS3, tune it and convert to E85 and that thing will hunt Hellcats!
New cars are awesome but the looks and styling of the old school cars just look so much better to me , My 72 Nova is still my favorite car , and yeah I know I could LS swap it but I still like the sound of that old 350 SBC in it , maybe one day I might LS swap it but for now , I'm good .
Good to see a new video from you Nick. And I really gotta say that I'm looking forward to seeing whatever else you have in mind for the 69 Camaro. 👍👍👍👍👍
First gens are the best and most people don’t realize they only weigh 3000-3200 pounds so it’s so much lighter then every new remake from any manufacturer. 2010 Camaro ss for example is 3859 pounds so 600+ pounds it’s like having a golf cart of extra weight. Plus nothing like the sound of 4 barrels opening up :)
@@yamahaguy1732 c'mon mane, you know that is not true...technology can improve an already badass ride...any badass ride...I'm old enough to remember when you could see 4 or 5 Camaros, Chevelles, Mopars, Mustangs, big block Torinos every day...put fuel injection and a turbo or two on these bad bitches and you've got reliability, better fuel mileage, faster starting in cold weather...the list goes on...old school cool meets modern tech is a winner to anyone who is being honest with themselves...
God, Nick just reminds me of every boomer dad at the dirt track. Even when he loses he doesn’t lose. He always talks his stuff up every chance he gets. Never noticed it until he drove the C8, now it’s all I can hear.
Out of curiosity, what did you do with your old exhaust manifolds off the 69? If you want to sell them, let me know. I wouldn't mind them on my 68 when I go to a big block!
I bought my first Camaro 35 years ago and have loved every version (the '71 is my secret favorite) but that fugly plastic "heat extractor" on the hood of this new one? Just cheap-looking garbage. When I first saw the renderings I thought the design team forgot about it until they were on their way to the meeting and drew one in as they rode in the elevator. Seeing it in person? It looks like a bunch of high school kids went to AutoZone, bought some "tuner" part from the accessories aisle, then went home and took a Sawzall to the hood. If I were going to buy a new Camaro I'd order an aftermarket hood before taking delivery so I wouldn't even have to see my new car with that atrocious thing. Okay. I think I made my point. Stay safe everyone. Cheers from Florida.
It sucks gm discontinues all the cool and awesome cars like the Camaro, trans am and gto, chevelle, nova, amongst others just to make an unobtainable corvette for most people. I’m not a mustang owner but dam if ford Keeps making them.
The best “looking” Camaro’s in this exact order.. #1 1969 ZL1 #2 1970 1/2 Z28 #3 2019 ZL1 1LE #4 2014 Z/28 #5 1992 Z/28 Nick, I hope like hell you punch that 454 out to a 468, and throw the choppiest cam you can in it, deeper rear gear/411’s, and a much more aggressive front and rear tire setup on your SS sooner than later. hey Nick... i think u asked this question a while back, about changing the gears in ur 69... just watched ur vid with Mooch and racing him, and u did good... the tq of the big block is great off the line... i didn't know ur car has a 700-r4/4L60... u said u have a 3.08 in it now?? thats decent for a cruiser, and it didn't hurt too much on the race... that trans is a wide ratio with a low 1st... i think the perfect gear for ur car would be a 3.23, but that small of a change wouldn't be worth the cost... going to a 3.42 would be good, but u'd have crazy wheelspin off the line, but in a roll race in 2nd, 3rd, it would be great... also u asked about tire sizes... whats on there now?? i would say go with the old school radial TA's, 235/60x15's on the front and 255/60x15's on the back, on a 15x8" wheel... i was gonna say go with a 245/50x16F and a 275x50x16R but they stopped making the 275/50x16...
Its crazy how bad the current gen Camaro looks compared to the first, I'll one day build a '69. That current gen would look better factory red than high lighter yellow or green.
Looks wise I'd take the first gen. Absolutely gorgeous car. Probably more reliable too unfortunately. for a daily driver if you put real miles on a vehicle I think I'd get a newer one. Just so I didn't beat up a classic. If you liked a car that handled well I'd probably also go with the newer one. But if you spend some money, you could certainly make a first gen handle decently. But how far do you go down that rabbit hole, until it's really no longer a first-gen anymore. That big block sounds absolutely awesome..
It’s one of the best feelings ever lol I mean I have an ls swap in my 72 el camino but they don’t know that, but the look on their face is priceless lol

GuitarmageddonZL1 Great Video I think your 69 Camaro SS did very well against Marks 14 Camaro SS
Is yours still carburetor ??? Look into the Holley EFI for your motor ..... people have seen great results with old school motors and modern fueling.
U need to do a Holly sniper efi carb it will bolt on the 68 and easy to tune and start up and more hp and tourq
The 1st Gen set it all off. Without them being sooo good at being awesome, we would never have had them up to today. Long Live the BEAST!!!! 😎
Respect the classics man!

there is no way the 5th gen was making less power its simple math and physics
Another difference is the one on the left is depreciating and the one on the right is appreciating as they speak.

Great match up. Basically if its old and doesnt have built 500hp+ its slow vs new cars.
The real difference is one Camaro is an American icon, the other is a car.
The 69 had the grunt but not the gearing.

Camero fast? 😂🤣👌🏽
Why did you blur out your face on the race

Uhhh 1st race 69 jumped and the 5th gen was reeling him in. 2nd race the 5th gen won. 5th gen is clearly faster.
Agreed, but still not by much
That's sad, because the 5TH gen is slow as fuck. Sucks for all of these old fuckers trying to relive their glory days. :-(
69 with a 6 speed would pull away from the 5th gen I think. More ratios
Exactly.
The 69 Camaro did so well
The first gen is so much better looking. They should just put new motor, electronics and suspension on the 1'st gen body.
Good race!
