Actual, superb talent, superior understanding, AND the ability to convey knowledge in an interesting & entertaining manner. People throw around the term "treasure" for beloved, talented, intelligent people & for those who aren't as well. This man has so many admirable qualities & what ties them all together & makes them matter 10-fold is that by all accounts, he's a truly decent guy.
Apart from very special people, the likes of Billy Connolly... Who else can talk to all classes from both sides of the spectrum and have them rolling around with laughter and really appreciate their work ??? I can't think of anyone that is "current" These superb people are a dying breed.
What I love about Bill Bailey is his ability to explain music and music theory to non musicians in a way which they understand. Lots of other musicians find it difficult to explain music to people who don’t play instruments.
Just once, I'd love for Match of the Day to be opened with the lounge version that Bill does here. And then, once finished, cut to the studio where Gary Lineker is sat in a wing backed chair, wearing a smoking jacket and carpet slippers, holding a pipe, and introducing the show with a voice reminiscent of whispering Bob Harris; "Good evening, and welcome to Match of the Day. On the show this evening, we have a wide selection of football matches for your delectation, including some well executed goals and one or two tackles that may have you tutting with disappointment."
@hyndscs I might just do that. I'd have Martin Keown on as one of the pundits as he tends to be a bit of a whisperer. Plus we wouldn't need to change Alan Shearer at all, he'd fit right in.
He is not just "talented"...he is brilliant. I agree he should be knighted. Arise Sir William of the hilarious comedic experience...and also a brilliant musician.
I remember watching this on the telly and my dad saying he'd buy an album of Bailey playing those horns if it were released. I see no reason why said album hasn't been made yet.
Give that man a cigar....he nailed it...with fucking squeeze horns ffs in front of the royal family 😂😂😂 Love Bill Bailey he's such a talent that for some reason or another I don't think enough people actually understand how talented he really is
For anyone interested, the songs are 'The Lonely Goatherd' from 'The Sound of Music', 'Ghostbusters' from the film of the same name, 'The Final Countdown' by Europe and '1812 Overture' by Tchaikovsky
You can have as many octaves as you like in a pentatonic scale. But I guess you mean it's the full chromatic 13 note scale he has, which is correct. He even has it set out like a piano - which makes sense given Bill's a pianist:)
Bill Bailey must never die. He must be change into one of the Fae and roam around the UK, basically being himself. This way his humour and music will live forever down the ages, delighting all who come across him.
I love musicians who are comedians and do not take themselves too seriously (though I love serious music/ians too of course. BB reminds me of Victor Borge in that respect
Bloody Brilliant. He never fails to amaze and entertain me. His energy is infectious, and so unanticipatible... Just strolls in from left field apropos of nothing.
we are a year and a half into a world destroying pandemic. I have lost several friends to Covid in a short space of time. Life is dire, but Bill Bailey gives me hope, joy and a terrible urge to buy some bicycle horns. He never ceases to make me laugh. Bless you, Bill, for your tireless work in entertaining us in the major and minor chords :)
Harry Hill did a bit very similar to this hornophone bit with his own hornophone set up. Probably pre-dated this performance too, but I seriously doubt either of them was stealing from the other.
i a ways end up at bills videos every so often on here normally by accident. always brightens my day I met him over the summer. humble fella very down to earth of the stage but a blinding talent when he's on it...why do we say 'blinding' to describe impressive things? I now have a guide dog 🐶
When Tchaikovsky died, his madness had to go somewhere. I think Bill Bailey is the vessel of that madness.
Actual, superb talent, superior understanding, AND the ability to convey knowledge in an interesting & entertaining manner.

With the possible exception of Walkers shortbread, Bill Bailey is the greatest gift the United Kingdom has given the world.
Not only hugely talented but also extremely clever man !
Should be Sir Bill Bailey. The man is a force of nature.
agreed, his comedy is intense yet so understated.
Knighthood is overrated.
He if I remember rightly turned down knighthood
He's a musical genius.
Apart from very special people, the likes of Billy Connolly... Who else can talk to all classes from both sides of the spectrum and have them rolling around with laughter and really appreciate their work ???

Such a talented man, he needs to be on telly much more than he is.
Tidgy YESSSS he needs to be on the telly way more than he is
I disagree. We'd all end up accustomed to him and lose interest. And that can never, ever be allowed to happen.
leopold omfg😂😂😂😂
No! Saturating is awful. Love when I see his name pop up now and then on QI, etc.
leopold Ladies & gents I give you, the life and soul of DOOM....

HUNDREDS OF FOOTBALL DORKS WOULD GET CONFUSED AND THINK THEY HAVE THE WRONG CHANNEL
That would be the best mod ever
I think it should be introduced in the manner of which you speak, but in the voice of Charles Dance and then cut to the regular show xD
Dont forget the robe man gotta have a robe
@hyndscs I might just do that. I'd have Martin Keown on as one of the pundits as he tends to be a bit of a whisperer. Plus we wouldn't need to change Alan Shearer at all, he'd fit right in.
Bill is straight up genius, the dude never fails to make me laugh and be dumbstruck at his talent.
If bill taught music at my school I wouldn’t hesitate to choose it
Bill is the best and most inventive musical comedy act since Victor Borge.
This is how music should be taught in schools.
That was kinda Leonard Bernstein's vision, also Gerd Albrecht's to a lesser degree.
Bill Bailey, Sean Lock, Bob Mortimer, Lee Mack. The UK is frickin goldmine of comedic talent.
I agree with others but Bob Mortimer? No thanks. Also where is the greatest of them all Billy Connolly!!!!
As is Ireland I assure you!
Bob Mortimer and Vic Reeves...
O come on Bob Mortimer is a great guy.
David Mitchell(?)
I think this is one of his best performances
If I had one tenth of Bill Bailey's talent, I'd be a genius!
An absolute genius. And 100% on the list of dinner guests
There are times you have to remember that Bill Bailey is a genius and this is one of those times.
I loved the retreat harp bit
I'm amazed that he's only 34 years old in the Black Books.
Also! His variety of talent is so astonishing that I have so much respect for this guy!
lnfotehnoloog late 30s. Not 34
He was born in a leap year so he is actually 136.
I love Bill, he makes this depressing world a better place! Makes me smile and laugh uncontrollably
He truly is a national treasure
I’d buy an album of Bill’s Lounge Version songs! Lounge Match of the Day is so brilliant!
You have a national treasure in this man. UK you have no idea how talented a comedian / musician this man is. Brilliant man.
Werebilby J
Yeah we do!
We do, but as Brits we don't shout about it! 😁
shhh..!! keep it down!
He is not just "talented"...he is brilliant. I agree he should be knighted. Arise Sir William of the hilarious comedic experience...and also a brilliant musician.
It will not be William it will be sir Ian Bailey
The world needs more people like Bill
20 years later...and he is still awesome!❤
Saw him in Bournemouth and he was, as you can expect, magnificent and hilarious. By far the best comic to see live in my honest opinion.
Just amazing. What a talent. And true skill. No marketing hype needed
See that woman in the audience keel over on hearing the Jewish folk rendition had me in stitches. Can't believe I didn't watch this when it came out!
Bill Bailey the only man to have long hair and be bald at the same time
Except for Francis Rossi. And Phil Collins for a while in the late seventies.
And Leonardo da Vinci...
Hulk Hogan
You've obviously never heard of Gallagher
Look up Devin Townsend. Back in the 90s he had that bald with long hair combo
Bill, you are astounding mate. Your humour is spot on and your musical talents are always mesmerising. Keep it up.
bill bailey ... you are brilliant
no one else compares to bill - the horns sketch is fantastic !
I remember watching this on the telly and my dad saying he'd buy an album of Bailey playing those horns if it were released. I see no reason why said album hasn't been made yet.
He could call the album Bill Bailey Gets The Horn
Watching this after seeing his 2021 performance. He’s gotten even better and fitter ❤️
Thoroughly brilliant. Have always loved watching Bill Bailey perform. 🥰
Holy moly he's amazing.
Give that man a cigar....he nailed it...with fucking squeeze horns ffs in front of the royal family 😂😂😂
Love Bill Bailey he's such a talent that for some reason or another I don't think enough people actually understand how talented he really is
+
Chris Beddows
He is one of those performers that will go down in history.
He makes it look so easy but he’s such a talented musician
Just incredible. This is what you call a multitallented artist..musician and performer 😁👌
He's brilliant as a musician and as a comedian! Multiple layers of excellence!
I just found out about Bill. What an awesome human being with many talents.
For anyone interested, the songs are 'The Lonely Goatherd' from 'The Sound of Music', 'Ghostbusters' from the film of the same name, 'The Final Countdown' by Europe and '1812 Overture' by Tchaikovsky
Whats the instrument called?
bicycle horns
Thanks👍
Going to see him this week at the AO arena Manchester. Can't wait
lol Christ this guy is ridiculously talented.
He's a genious
@@TheDjackso1 Well he was the son of God
Bicycle horns tuned to the pentatonic scale?! Awesome.
More than just pentatonic he has 2 full octaves there
You can have as many octaves as you like in a pentatonic scale. But I guess you mean it's the full chromatic 13 note scale he has, which is correct. He even has it set out like a piano - which makes sense given Bill's a pianist:)
Phillip Cowell i think u mean 12 my good sir
duh, yes.
anorak
Amazing man! 💖
Bill Bailey is on a real different level from us mortals.
This man is a true phenomenon
A living national treasure
That major 7 chord at the end of the match of the day lounge Version gave me half a chub
Not just playing the horns, but doing so with serious style and aplomb.
Bill Bailey must never die.
He must be change into one of the Fae and roam around the UK, basically being himself. This way his humour and music will live forever down the ages, delighting all who come across him.
Love this idea
What a talented artist. Superb entertainment.
I love Bill Bailey.
I love musicians who are comedians and do not take themselves too seriously (though I love serious music/ians too of course. BB reminds me of Victor Borge in that respect
The incomparable, gloriously talented Bill Bailey! Long may he reign on You Tube.
The finest in high class comedy 😉
Is there any instrument this man cannot play? He is brilliant!
Now THAT'S variety.
The man's a mad genius.
Bloody Brilliant. He never fails to amaze and entertain me. His energy is infectious, and so unanticipatible... Just strolls in from left field apropos of nothing.
Retreat retreat, move backwards with your feet. Love it! Hahaaa
Bill Bailey is a musical master
we are a year and a half into a world destroying pandemic.
Such a genius. Can play a Mozart symphony, show us the power and flexibility of a keyboard, and then play the Final Countdown on a horn.
That MOTD lounge version was gorgeous :)
Fitness routine by Bill Bailey, playing the bicycle horn!
A delightfully funny man who cheers me up
Do you think he's ever been worried about another comedian stealing his material?
LIKE WHO ? BILL IS UNIQUE
believe it or not, that's the joke
He’d just sue them
@M P r/ihavereddit
Harry Hill did a bit very similar to this hornophone bit with his own hornophone set up. Probably pre-dated this performance too, but I seriously doubt either of them was stealing from the other.
That was a bloody good preformance
Thanks for your support and encouragement towards me and my career🌹
What a credit to the British entertainment biz
i a ways end up at bills videos every so often on here normally by accident. always brightens my day I met him over the summer. humble fella very down to earth of the stage but a blinding talent when he's on it...why do we say 'blinding' to describe impressive things? I now have a guide dog 🐶
Bill .. you are simply brilliant !
A musical, comical, theatrical genius!
This never fails to cheer me up!!
Thanks for your support and encouragement towards me and my career🌹
If you could harness a mere fraction of his talent you would be set for life...........The man is quite incredible.
OMG he is SOOOO clever and he can move with those horns!!
To have the comedic sense and the incredible musical ability all wrapped up in a slightly funny looking package. Perfect performer = Bill Bailey.
The Final Countdown.... fabulous
I discovered him just today. And I'm bewitched fan of his ❤
the coolest old guy I've ever seen.
This is the most epic video on TH-cam.
Just been to see BB in the Larks In Transit tour May-2019. Still superb, still hilarious and still fills me with wonder.
So entertaining is Bill, love it to bits
2:22 that shot sums up the upper class quite well. Two old fogies laughing a rich man's laugh and one emotionless old fogie.
Then 4:21 with there seemingly horrible sense of rhythm.
Why do i love this man so much!
He's brilliant! :D
After watching this...the only words I have are: *'you beautiful bastard'*
One word. Brilliant.
Has me grinning from ear to ear.
Bill Bailey is a legend
Lovely man very talented
behind all the laughs is a very talented musician
National treasure. Genius.
Really a brilliant musician
You can tell this is the Royal Variety Performance. Any normal audience would've yelled out "GHOST BUSTERS!" at 5:28...
DarthJedi2005remixes or I’m an adult virgin😂😂👀if you know the meme😂😂
@@charlieminaj2 absolute classic vine
what a legend, music and comedy, brilliant every time i've watched it
This is a master piece!
Thank god we have human left to be incredible and share their wealth of goodness...thank you sir..
