@@cl759 First of all, if you've read my comment you've already read the joke, so it's not like I ruined it somehow. Second, the joke was just a merging of USSR and USA, but considering the S's and U's mean something different in both of them, I genuinely wanted to explore how they'd come together, as you could come up with many interpertations. Third, it's a throwaway comment that's not hurting anyone. Fourth, telling someone what is or isn't poor form is also poor form, as it's subjective.

Bill Bailey should be given a show where he goes around the world learning and sharing musical concepts to non-musicians. It's like Bill Nye's science show but for music. Make it happen, Netflix.

Theena Kumaragurunathan i have seen clips of him with an orchestra going through some of the different instruments and their sounds. So a show like you suggest shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.
His show "Bill Bailey Introduces the Orchestra" its along those lines. Quite excellent.

@zbr76 In a comedic musical show, I have an assumption that explaining what a minor 3rd is, let alone diminish, and intervals, may be a bit much for a likely unmusical crowd to understand. I'm just hazarding a guess tho, who really knows right?

I love watching the " musical " bits of Bill's shows..he's immensely talented. To those who may not be familiar with him, he's an ornithologist, a conservationist , a co.edian, actor and multi -instrumentalist . This man should be treasured

Yeah... this is pretty much why I dislike events with "Laugh" or "Applause" light-up signals. You can't see it, but you can still feel how its there - everyone starts and stops "laughing" at the same time.

He's a cornball hack, & if he started smashing watermelons with a sledgehammer it wouldn't change the overall tone or sophistication of his "act" one bit.
He's the personification of British decline -- a once powerful, imaginative, wholly original nation reduced to ossified has-beens who cringingly lick their wounds & confuse third-rate comedy for high culture.

drschplatt it references the widely circulated accusations that Russia and Putin colluded with Trump and/or the Trump campaign to ensure that Trump won the US presidency.
The implication of these accusations is that if they are true, then Trump must secretly be acting in the interests of Russia or even acting under their orders as a Russian puppet, because Russia would have to have had a lot to gain from Trump becoming president for them to have wanted to collude with him.
So, the American national anthem sounding “a bit Russian” is a metaphor for the accusation that Trump, the leader of the USA, is a pawn controlled by Russian puppetmasters.

I think the reason the US anthem works so well that way is that even in a major key, it's such a plodding dirge of a song.
The melody is nowhere near as bad as the lyrics. Such meaningless nonsense. It's not even an anecdote! "Oh wow, you're saying this one time, ages ago, you were fighting and your flag was not destroyed? I went to the supermarket yesterday and met this guy I was in school with." Same level of anecdote.
