Morris Minor Engine Removal - Part 6

  • After finding out the 948cc A series engine in the 1958 Morris Minor was low on compression and had a likely burnt valve, it's time to remove the engine so that I can start bringing it back to life.
    The car is a 1958 Morris Minor 1000 with the 948cc engine. Last WOF was in 1995 and has been parked up ever since.

    I still have the Sidchrome imperial socket and spanner set I bought in 1969 for my 1965 mini. I still use the ratchet and breaker bars with metric sockets.

    Oh by the way, the trick to not wrestling it out is to loosen one of the front mounting towers from the chassis, I wish someone had told be that first too.

    • @Badgertronix

      I did start loosening those towers but the bolts weren't playing nice so gave up and wrestled

    Before you go to put it back in remove the engine mounts from the chassis rails ie side panels then fit them after the engine is back in it makes it much easier to line the engine and box up, good vids though

    Don't need a lift. I took mine out a couple of times. Plank across the wings, bit of rope to tie engine to plank, and a helper to lift one end of the plank while I lifted the other. I was young and fit in those days.

    • @Badgertronix
      @Badgertronix  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have a plank or rope but I do have a handy engine crane. I'll stick with that 🤣

    Youre lucky the bumper nuts undid so easily, in the UK I usually have to heat them.

    • @Badgertronix
      @Badgertronix  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      lWe don't salt the roads here and have a mild climate so cars don't tend to rust. Makes working on them a pleasure

  • @TheMentalblockrock
    @TheMentalblockrock 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Bumper nuts are Whitworth (I think 1/2 Whitworth) as are most of the fixings on the body of the Minor, Engine is mostly AF (apart from the engine mount to engine bay nuts and bolts.
