Top Sunscreens Under Makeup | Milabu

  • Let’s talk about the top sunscreens that wear great under makeup.
    To protect your face from the sun, sunscreen is suggested and advised. One of the biggest problems with wearing sunscreen under makeup, pilling. Another concern, makeup doesn’t tend to set on top of sunscreen, resulting with patchy spots all over the face. And finally, sunscreen can break your makeup apart really fast throughout the day. Today, I'm testing four sunscreens that are chemical and/or physical that are supposed to wear beautifully under makeup, not disturb the skincare underneath and are gentle on the skin throughout the day.

    Hi Milana, to get the full SPF and protection of a sunscreen, it's been advised by professionals to not mix sunscreen with make-up :) It is advised to use the appropriate amount of sunscreen (around 1/4 tsp) onto the face, wait 15 minutes, then apply make-up.

      I’m pretty sure she applied a layer of sunscreen first and than instead of just makeup on top, she mixed in some sunscreen with the foundation for extra protection.

  • @spencerchidley1060
    @spencerchidley1060 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    You really shouldn’t mix spf with anything. Spf is a complicated science and needs to set up properly on the skin. Even if it didn’t effect the formula you’re gonna have more spf in some areas and less in others, and likely little spots with none at all. It’s just not worth it. Also you should use more to get the labeled spf, it looks like you don’t use very much.

    • @cryanna.666
      @cryanna.666 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Omg yes EXACTLY! When you mix other things into your spf, it changes the formula and efficacy of it. Which like really defeats the purpose.. and a quarter teaspoon should be enough to cover your face and front of the neck. Not a drop here n there....

    • @kathleencoomans8210
      @kathleencoomans8210 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I personally feel the thoughts about formula change and efficacy are very pedantic…..if you use the correct amount of sunscreen with your foundation I see no problem at all but each to their own…..

    Hey Milana,
    Spf shouldn't be mixed with anything and to get the protection labeled on the packaging you should apply about 1/4 tbs/1.25ml (2 milligrams per square cm of skin) just on your face and wait about 15 minutes before applying make up. If you apply for example half you will only have Spf 15 protection if you use Spf 30 or even less depending on how much you applied. Any spf is better than none but it's the best anti aging/skin cancer protection so it would help if you apply the right amount 😊 I'm in Europe and my favorite Spf's to use under make up are Evy Defence Face Mousse Spf50+, Hello Sunday The one that's got it all Spf 50+ primer and Hello Sunday The illuminating one primer spf 50+ for when I want a glowy look. I'm not sure if you can find them there but I totally recommend trying them 🥰 Another recommendations would be the Australian Gold Botanical Sunscreen 50 Tinted (fair to light). I use it as a BB cream on top of a more hydrating/glowy spf because it dryes down matte (wait 15 minutes after the base spf before applying). It's a mineral sunscreen and I apply it for extra blue light protection and it's perfect around the eyes because it doesn't sting.

    Yes you really are not supposed to mix anything in with your sunscreen. It can change the efficacy of it and change the formula. It also has to form a film on the skin to reach that labeled SPF and it can’t do that if the formula is compromised by mixing it with foundation or skincare products, so I would just stay away from mixing anything in with your sunscreens… just put the sunscreen on first then apply your base makeup.

  • @marianne7675

    Hi Milana, if they sell the French brand SVR where you live, you should try their ‘Sun Secure Blur spf 50’, so the ‘blur mousse’. It works excellent under your foundation. Especially in the summer if it gets humid, for oily or mixed skin. It also gives your skin a beautiful blurred and even look. I get many compliments from people in stores or restaurants I regularly visit about my skin. It is this sunscreen that is partially responsible for this.

    If you are taking the sunscreen down on your neck, you are not using near enough to get the correct coverage. I also am concerned when you are warming it up with your hands, that you are rubbing so much into your hands you are not using it near enough. You need at LEAST 1/4 teaspoon. Chemical sunscreen will make your eyes sting if it gets in or near them.

    It's not surprising that your makeup went to crap with the unseen sunscreen.... it looked like you didn't work it into your skin very much when you applied it, compared to the way you applied the other sunscreens. The fenty skin tint n the supergoop are also both pretty silicone heavy, so that probably didn't help with the wear much either.

I've struggled getting the La Roche Posay and the Elta MD in my eyes, but I like them both. And the whole LRP sunscreen line is my go-to when I need higher SPFs.
