Part 24: • Aries Spears is Still ...
Part 26: • Aries Spears Goes Off ...
Part 1: • Aries Spears: Any Man ...
    --------
In this clip, Aries Spears and Vlad talked about Al Pacino and Robert De Niro fathering children at an elderly age. Vlad stated that many women desire have a baby by a wealthy man, hoping that those traits pass off to their offspring. Moving along, Aries Spears admitted to recently finding out what "nepo babies" meant. In relation to show business, Vlad said having successful parents may get a person to the front of the line but it doesn't guarantee success. On the other hand, Aries argued that skipping the line is a major benefit. Check out the rest of the clip to hear their heated debate.

I don’t care how you feel about Aries Spears. He is 100% right about this. Trying to juggle paying your rent, keeping a job while booking acting work and everything else in your life while trying to get in the door is tough. Getting in doors is more than half the battle and hero babies don’t have to go through that. This actor struggle is real!!!

My son is an actor and has gotten his share of roles over the past few years, but Spears is correct. The times where he didn’t get those roles, he wondered how he would keep up with paying his bills. It’s the nature of the business, but as a father, it’s so heartbreaking to hear the disappointment in his voice when he has studied and worked so hard to get a role and was turned down.

I’m with Aries on this 100%. This is not the same, but I’m a similar situation. I been trying to buy a business now through SBA for 3 years, and have busted my ass to make it happen. I have a wife and 3 kids. I have been able to close on a deal because I don’t have capital to inject into the business which is typically required. One of the loan officers I was speaking with the other day was telling me about a dude who’s father in law gave him 750k for his capital injection which allowed him to buy a 7 million dollar company. Now look, I’m jealous, it not envious, I’d take advantage of that too if I were him. But there was a big part of me that was like “man must be nice to just have that handed to you and not have to scrap, scratch and claw for years and still not have anything yet”. But I keep telling myself that good $hit is just around the corner and I’ll be better off from it. But man, it would be nice to have a father in law willing to invest in my dream. This is why I feel what Aries is saying.

Vlad brought up Chet Hanks, completely ignoring that Colin Hanks, Tom's other son, is a wonderful actor. It's also obvious that Chet Hanks doesn't want to be an actor, so his point is moot.
Nepotism is real, and of course, the strength of it will always be relative to the power and influence of the parents. If your mom or dad or both are A-Listers, the strings they can pull (or the benefits you receive from people who are trying to get in good with THEM), is a hell of a lot greater than if your mom or dad are reality TV stars or something of that nature. It also ignores the fact that many of the "nepo babies" take different names to hopefully avoid claims of nepotism (even though it doesn't really work, especially with the internet). There are so many children and relatives of successful people in Hollywood and other fields who you'd never know because they either take a different name entirely (such as Nicholas Cage, the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, who took "Cage" as a last name), or they take the last name of their non-famous parent or, if they're a girl, their father's last name (Margaret Qualley, the daughter of Andie McDowell, and Mammie Gummer, the daughter of Meryl Streep).
To Vlad's point, working hard is great, but a career in entertainment isn't like other careers where there's a clear path towards ascension, and things are relatively meritocratic. There are plenty of great lawyers and shit lawyers, but anyone who wants to BE a lawyer knows exactly the things they must do, and even if you end up being the worst lawyer on the planet, barring you losing your license, you're still a lawyer. Conversely, you could be the most talented actor in the WORLD, but it's possible AND likely that you'll never get noticed because the path to success isn't so cut and dry. Further, if you're looking to get noticed, you need your foot in the door, and if the children of famous and influential parents are already in front of the line, that door might shut because the decision has already been made.

I'm not an actress, but I do things on the other side of the camera, and I know this is a 100% fact from experience. I have worked very hard, I and am finally starting to see some movement. It can be very important and the difference maker but it is not "everything". At the end of the day, if the talent or skill is not there and/or doesn't provide value then it doesn't matter whose kid it is. We just hear about the nepobabies who succeeded and the rags to riches stories. I personally know of several kids of extremely prominent people in Hollywood and the music industry and many of them try to take up the mantle but fail even though they're talented. The producer, director, label exec or whoever is not willing to risk so much just for a favor for a friend. As in any industry though it DOES help you get to the door like Aries said but you can't be a mediocre person and expect the door to unlock automatically.

Vlad should give him a copy of this portion of the interview to take with him because this is some of the best stuff that Ares has ever done. He's passionate, dramatic and surprise surprise he doesn't use vulgarities. I'd say he's speaking from experience

Aries is right. Examples are: Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sanaa Lathan, and John David Washington to name a few. They are talented, but their family connections definitely helped them get their foot in the door. This is why I respect the hustles of people like Issa Rae and Quinta Brunson. They literally got it out the mud. They built it themselves. No nepotism. Just BUILT it.

    • @Ardante11
      @Ardante11 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

The dilemma comes in when they(Rae or Quinta) have kids.
The passing on of skilled trades has been the staple of strong families for centuries to come.
If i’m a singer/actor or athlete and my kid watches me at work and wants to hone the skill, yes my kid is going to get the first hand free mentorship by me.
It’s hard to tell one’s kid they cant have the same dream as mommy or daddy. Especially when the kid shows early signs of the inherited talent.
There’s construction, funeral, & video/photography companies here in Atlanta that have been dominant for the past 50 years and the children that took over the leadership know that they’re carrying on the family name with a good product and people tend to hire those companies because they’re usually the safer bet. For some reason when it comes to entertainment, we’re more critical of the hiring practices but the dilemma is always going to be a conflict with ethics or jealousy. I wont take either side I think as it’s best to go on a case by case basis. For example, If i saw Denzel Washington’s son get 5 straight lead acting roles for blockbusters that spans two years, I’m going to probably say yo that’s a bit excessive, but If he only get’s two out of those five, I dont think it’s that big of deal.

What Aries is saying isn't just true, it's common sense. There is no "risk" when the consequences of failure aren't dire. I don't knock anyone for being born rich because it doesn't make one any less susceptible to the human condition, BUT I do appreciate it when people born into comfortable positions understand they have a MAJOR leg up. Sometimes, you get these rich kids that go out of their way to be "common" in the publics eye...rich guilt is real lol. I have a rich uncle. He and my aunt couldn't bare children so they adopted a son and a daughter when they were infants. I used to wonder, as they're young adults now, if they ever felt like they won the adopted kid lottery. But in all fairness to them, life has been comfortable but they still have to deal with certain things money can't get anyone out of. Sometimes the struggle is what validates our successes.

Yeah, talent is very rarely in the genes. And typically these kids grow up super wealthy and don’t have that drive to really learn and work at developing their talents or skills and have a career handed to them, and who knows if that’s what the kid ever really wanted?
Maybe they could haben been great surgeons, biologists or anything else. That’s what I think of the Smith kids. I don’t know if their passion ever really was to be entertainers. I feel like the parents decided this is what they’ll do since they were babies. So that’s what they did, and they’re not all that into it.

@kanajingly8957 But how much of that is nature or nurture? She chances are, if your dad is a famed, pianist, you’re going to be learning piano before you can walk? Serena Williams’s daughter will likely grow up to be a pretty good tennis player whether she she has a natural talent or not. When you’ve been trained consistently to do something that’s what you’re doing to do. Does Enrique Iglesias have a natural talent? That’s debatable. But if you grow up in an environment that nurtures nothing but singing and performing, you at the very least will come out of it with the ability to make some decent pop songs. The name recognition alone almost guarantees it.
Also, we’re talking about present day “nepo babies”. These typically refer to the children of great actors (specifically) who get jumped ahead of the line when it comes to recording contracts, acting jobs, and ability to become famous household names (which leads to work) for no reason other than their parent’s name. Johnny Depp worked his ass off for several years before he became a household name. Johnny Depp’s daughter? How many average young models have you heard of getting offered starring roles in an HBO series alongside one of the biggest pop stars on the world? Zendaya only got something comparable to that, but that’s only after being an actual movie and TV star for several years at her young age, AND she was part of an ensemble cast. Depp’s daughter’s first role is a star of a series. And while nobody is saying she is a terrible actress, the general consensus seems to be “ho-hum”. She brings nothing special. Could have been played by any pretty young woman.
