Hi Eddie! This is awesome! So I just spent the last couple weeks learning how to map all my parameters using Cubase Pro 11 and my Native Instruments 88 keyboard. I am setting up presets for specific parameters I use all the time too. I have been applying all your automation techniques using premapped knobs! My productions are coming to Life with your great teaching and training! Between my mix and master chains, FX, Compression, MB compression, side chaining, imaging, layering and arrangement my musical ideas are no longer stale and static in my mix! I am super excited to share with my mentor and teacher Eddie Grey that I have broken into a new level of music production! Just happened the last couple weeks. It's all in the little details and taking time to apply yourself with a specific tasks/idea/creative approach. Thanks so much for for your knowledge, inspiration, hfmusicacademy and being you! Blessings...off to the studio working on finishing my 41 song goal everyday until completed. Have a great day, Angelina
This is amazing. Thank you. Excited to hear the new sound. Stay Up!!!
@@_TheModernCreative Hii ! You seem to know a lot of thing about automations in Logic pro, so maybe you can help me, I've got a Presonus FaderPort and I really would like to use the potentiometer automatically assigned (without manipulation except by clicking on the wanted parameter) every time I want, and on every plug ins. My goal is to automatically assign the activ parameter to the potentiometer just by clicking and be able to fastly adjust the parameter by turning the potentiometer on the FaderPort ? Thank you very much!
@@julienroussel218 Logic is notorious for not being that friendly with this stuff but it is Easy. Let me explain if you learn the parameter with the LEARN ASSIGNMENT (CMD+L) and map the pan knob. It should always control the pan knob of any channel strip so long as it’s in focus. Let me know if that helps.
@@_TheModernCreative Big Thank you for your answer, but I already know the Learn assgnment, but what I want is to never need to do it, (just clicking and automatically assign). But I can't assign the pan knob to something else than the pan... I will try with an other controller.. Thank you :)
@@julienroussel218 try using AQA (automation quick access). It’s a very fast way of controlling any parameter. Hope that helps.
OUTSTANDING VIDEO.. Thank you very much!
Be sure to check out my other channel @ThatLogicProGuy - I have an in depth course on Control Surfaces in Logic Pro. People are loving it. Cheers!
My main question is: Is it possible to have the same faders and knobs control multiple parameters and plugins, depending on what is open and in front at the moment? Example: Have Fader 1 control the EQ, when EQ is open or on the same track selected, have Fader 1 control in the plugin that is opened?

@@_TheModernCreative I watched through all the videos multiple times 🙂 They don't answer my specific questions tho. But for some questions they did help very much!
Great video, in Logic with launch control xl do you have access to all the 8 bank factory? For instance you set the first one as controller for the mixer, the second one and third one for all the alchemy knobs, etc
I thought the launch control XL only had to bank factories? I’m not really well-versed on the unit so I can’t say, but I know for sure that you can access to banks from personal experience.
@@_TheModernCreative i called them, we have access to 8 user modes we can customize with midi cc using logic
Great explanation. What is the 'Zone' column used for in the far left of the Controller Assignment Window? When I connect to my Native Instruments S88, the column is already pre-populated with different zones.
Cheers! Thx for the support. I will be releasing a course in Control Surfaces pretty soon on TH-cam. Should be on this on my other channel @ThatLogicProGuy 🙏💯🔥👍😀
Attempted Novation Launchpad X midi mapping, and some of the "learned" assignments I want to delete, but I can't "highlight" and right click "delete" the mapping assignments. How to do restore the midi mapping in Logic Pro X to it's defaults again? Thanks!
You should be able to go into the controller assignment window and simply delete. Make sure you are looking at “Expert View”. To delete controller assignments I believe you will have to delete your control surface list which is com.Apple.logic.pro.cs Hope that helps!
@@_TheModernCreative Thanks!! and thanks for the reply, I will attempt that when I get home this evening :-)
Hi bro. Great video. I would like to know if you think the Akai APC40 MKII could be mapped to work in Logic Pro X the same way it works in Ableton Live. I still can't get the channel select buttons to work because when selecting the channel in Logic the APC40 doesn't receive any MIDI messages. My Komplete Kontrol S88 can select channels and it would be super useful to be able to do it on the APC40 as well. Thank you so much. Greetings
Don’t have much experience with that unit. You should be able to use any open midi message (note/rotary control/slider) and assign that to a command. You can find those in the key command window. LMK if you find it. If you can’t, ping me and I’ll jump on Logic to help you out. Cheers!
Excellent video. Thank you!

I can’t seem to find any videos on how to assign a slider wheel or fader to expression in the piano roll under automation. Where you can typically do with a pencil. Any ideas? Thank you
Lots of different ways to do this, my friend. I highly recommend you follow my other channel, I just covered control surfaces in detail. @ThatLogicProGuy - to answer your question though….next thread
The fast way is to use automation, quick access. You can enable this within the logic pro settings. They should get you up and running in no time.
As I said, there are many ways to do this, some of which include using the Environment in Logic Pro. Expression is usually assigned to midi cc 11 so you can hardwire that to your controller. The concept as a whole cannot be explained in this limited capacity, but feel free to check out my other channel and that should help out. 🙏💪👍💯🔥
@@_TheModernCreative thank you
Thanks for the info! However I still wonder how I can assign volume to multiple faders (each for one track) to use in a Live Loops setup. I can easily assign volume to one fader but when I select another track and try to go the next fader, somehow the first one is gone and logic only allows me to have one assignment to volume at once, which isn't very helpful. :/
Hi there. I put out free content on my other channel @ThatLogicProGuy- look for Control Surfaces Support. I go through this subject and more.
Ok, thank you, I'll go over there. @@_TheModernCreative
Thank you. 🥇, I still have a question, how can I map a track to a midi controller? I want to tap for example a specific pad at the midi controller and that Logic automatically select a track, this in order to be able of playing keys with the sound assigned to that track. What I want to do is to play live the midi keyboard with Logic pro sounds and change them the more easily possible, or do you have a better idea to achieve that?
Go ahead and check out the extended training for more deets but you can absolutely isolate certain midi controllers to trigger distinct software instruments in the Track Inspector. Hope you have more than one midi controller. If you do, be sure to watch my video on “what is a midi interface?” If you need anything else, LMK.
Question: I am in the process of trying to set up innovation launch control XL to control parameters on a specific channel strip that I don’t want to change when I move to another channel strip… how do I do that? Because as of right now as soon as I switch channels it starts controlling the parameters of another channel but I would like to keep the knob always only assigned to the one parameter on the one specific channel I have designated.
Totallly get it. I go over this in the extended training but only certain things can be hardwired in the environment such as volume, pitch, modulation, pan, etc. This is not a well documented nor deeply researched subject and I hope to uncover more.
How do I control the eq on the selected track? I’ve mapped but it only controls one track

I'm not able to get into the page for extended training
I’ll get this up and running asap. I’ll ping u back.
Link is now live. Thank you for pointing that out. Many Thanks mate!!!
I tried doing this low cut on my code61, E1 for the low cut, however it doesn't seem to scale, it's more of an on and off. I'm wondering what I did wrong. I double checked the settings are the same as yours.
When you learned the message, you probably clicked on the on and off switch. Be sure to click on the frequency parameter and it should work. Keep me posted.
@@_TheModernCreative you’re right I figured it out and forgot to come re-comment.
can you control different parameters across the logic enviroment even if you arent on that selected track? for example... can you control the delay of one guitar track whilst being on another selected track? Hope this makes sense! thanks.
This is a great question. It seems the behavior around mapping seems to revolve around “key focus” or what track/region/window is currently selected. With that being said, you can hardwire the environment to control CC data for example CC1 mod wheel but not distinct plug-in parameters so you can play with a parameter no matter which channel strip is selected. Perhaps there is a workaround? I would need to spend more time with it. Hope that helps!
@@_TheModernCreative okay damn yeah it just takes time to figure these things out lol but yo ill give it a go in the meantime. thanks!
Is there a way to reset a pad on my personas Atom? I accidentally reprogrammed it and can't get it back. it was the bottom left (kick drum). Hope you can help. Thanks, Ernie
Did you assign it to a key command, a channel strip parameter like volume or pan or a plug in parameter?
On the video I show a trick where I move the parameter and it’s highlighted inside the controller assignment window. Can you mirror those actions?
@@_TheModernCreative I am going to go through it slowly tonight step by step. I appreciate the help. I'll let you know how it goes and checking out you link too.
So the main thing is you have to find the assignment and delete it from the controller assignment window. You can also do it from the key command window if it is a key command but if it is a Channel strip or plug-in parameter then you have to do it inside of the controllers assignment window. Keep me posted. We will figure this out. Cheers
@@_TheModernCreative Thanks will do!
hey :) I have a question that stands not in the context of this video.
topic:
learn assignments (midi keyboard) I have for example a simple gain vst and I put this on every strip, then I try to connect every gain signal from every gain vst to ONE nob so I can control every strip with one nob, without going in each one (this makes it easier to regulate when I have to fix loudness without changing balance of the mix. THE PROBLEM :D : logic allows me only 2 Gain signals from this vsts on one nob. after that it goes back to one und delet the others. Do you know if it is possible to Mappe more then two signals to one nob?
Thanks a lot! I hope you understand :D I cam from Germany and englisch is not my masterclass :D
There is an extended training video that talks about the subject a little bit more. Look at the link in the description. The function is unique to the channel strip so as long as the focus of the DAW is on that specific channel strip then you should get the functionality you want. You will have to change focus from channel strip to channel strip to get the knob to do what you want it to do. Hope that helps. Stay up!
@@_TheModernCreative oh man thanks a lot! I will dive into it :)
There’s also a part two to this video as well. Keep me posted with your progress.
I can’t tell if I’m missing something here so let me know if I’m making mistakes but basically can you make specific templates for each separate instrument on separate tracks?
For example, I mapped the pan knob
and my master volume control on my midi keyboard no problem… and I can map the other effects out fine (on a single instrument) but when making “duplicates” for other instruments I run into issues where faders are moving more than one effect like reverb and delay.
I want to be able to go from piano to drum and switch effects up with my faders no problem but I can’t.
Any reason for this or a solution?
Thank you!
Great question. I was absolutely confused about this subject for the longest. I’m actually in the process of making a course like this as well but to give you the short of it. We are using the MIDI language. Every controller is going to send either a unique midi message or overlapping. This is why you were getting faders that move more than one effect. This will require you to streamline your workflow. The main thing to understand is that this is channel strip based so depending which track you have selected, the assignments you have made will take priority. If you have made a parameter assignment and choose to overwrite it, then both of these will function so long as they are occurring on the same channel strip. I am wrapping up a mixing course now and will surely get to this subject very soon. I hope this helps. Stay ⬆️
@@_TheModernCreative Are you saying if I assign a knob to reverb on a drum AND piano that they will over lap unless mapped on the same channel strip?
Kind of… If you assign a parameter to a reverb (inserted on the audio insert not a bus) on a piano and that channel strip is selected and in focus, it will work. You can also choose to assign that same knob to a drum on a SEPARATE channel strip and so long as that channel strip with the software drum instrument is selected that too will work. we also have a couple of free videos on this subject on the channel along with extended training which you can find in the description. Course coming soon for members. Hope they help. If you have any more questions shoot em’ my way. Have a great day
I know im a year late but thanks so much for the vid. helps a lot. also I noticed your gate is clipping a tad too hard on your voice over. maybe tweak the threshold (if you havent found out already). keep on keeping on
Much appreciated. Thank you for co wrong my 6. Stay ⬆️
Also if you would like to learn more about this subject check out my latest video. There is an extended training or I go over lots of details in a 30 minute overview.
@@_TheModernCreative awesome, thanks man!
I just get the dreaded "Reassign" message and nothing happens. I love Logic but Logic + MIDI Controllers = 💩
Even once all the parameters are fixed and installed, more often than not, they get corrupted, dont work or get deleted if starting Logic again or whatever. Logic badly needs a "Right click, assign Midi" function.
Mackie Control Protocol 🤣
How do you undo it
Hey there. Going to the key command window and simply delete the assignment that you created. I have an extensive playlist on Control Surfaces on my other channel @ThatLogicProGuy
I'm not able to get into your website
Email HFMusicacademy@gmail.com and we will get you set up. Thank you for your flexibility.
i want to use a knob to scroll the playhead
I would learn an assignment with that parameter for the key command move played forward/backward. Everything you need to know on Control Surfaces explained here: Logic Pro Tutorial - Control Surfaces Support

@@_TheModernCreative I heard that it’s possible but the adjustment is too coarse. Do you know if there is a way to adjust the resolution?
If you look for the key command - move playhead by division….that should get you there. There should be other options. Not in front of computer now but hit me if you need more help sir!!!🙏
@@_TheModernCreative thanks
For some reason I can map everything except for expression
Expression is not used by many plug-in companies. Just throwing that out there as you may be able to map but you may not be hearing it as just a few companies actually utilize it. It often serves as an additional volume parameter. Cheers!
