I`m in LaSalle Parish, Louisiana near Catahoula Lake. I can hear them roaring very loudly about a mile away and have seen some of the red eyed ones while picking blackberries but I haven`t heard any numbers of them buzzing around me. I`m in a bottom not far from a creek and there are pines & sweetgums here and open fields nearby and lots of hard red clay soil and a small forest behind me with only a few oaks. The soil is so bad that to have a garden here I`m having to slowly make soil from leaves, grass clippings, forest litter, leaf mold, rotted logs and sandy soil from a wash. So I don`t think they could live in the ground in this area. To plant fruit trees I had to buy a miner`s pick! I`m not sure why it`s like this here and I didn`t expect it to be so bad.
They came out in Central Georgia about 2 weeks ago. They are everywhere on our 30 acre homestead. It's very loud. I go out daily with a broom to get them off our log cabin. We're enjoying the brood but have to make sure the dogs don't eat to many or they vomit. Y'all have fun!
Another fascinating episode of the Good Growing Podcast! Ken and Chris always bring such enthusiasm and knowledge to each topic. I never knew there was so much to learn about periodical cicadas, from the differences between them and annual cicadas to the benefits of their emergence. It's great to hear practical tips on protecting newly planted trees, too. Looking forward to the next episode
Tons in our yard in Richmond, Va today. Little ones have a nice collection of “bug shells”.

Sounds amazing. They should be coming out here soon!

They are out in Southwest Arkansas. The sound is getting louder by the day.
Awesome!
Will Daley Protective Tree wrap help protect the trunk of my maple tree planted Oct. of 2023 from the cicadas?
As long as the mesh size is 1/4-inch or less and you fasten near the base of the trunk so the cicadas can't crawl up the trunk.
