Do not take the glass out, if you are only replacing the door hand. From the bottom gently pull it to the side, reach up with one hand and disconnect the door handle cable. You must be laying down on your back to look into the door. When you have put your new door handle o you will do the same thing, pull the window cover assembly to the side grime the bottom, and connect the cable. And your done, the whole process took me about an 30 min. Or an hour to finally figure it out.
For anyone still struggling, here's how I finally got it: Roll down the window 1 inch (important). Remove the screws around the the inner panel. Lift the entire inner panel 1 inch (glass will come up with it.) This will allow you to stick your arm in from the bottom (while laying down on the ground) and remove the connector. Total process would take 20 minutes now that I know how to do it. Alternatively, I was able to get the original connection off by sticking a flathead screwdriver through one of the grommets, but the new cable didnt line up in the right spot, so I had to reach up in there and get it. Hope yhis helps someone.
Hi you have to put down the window until the screw are front of the hole (panel) then you can remove the windows and put your have behind the panel to disconnect the door lock
I know i am late to the game but if you want to take that black panel off pop out the grey rubber pieces roll window down to line up with is unscrew the window and then you can take it off
Well the 2018 I bought it pre painted to match, I think I got it at the dealership . The side mirrors come unpainted. I didn't program the handle, just unplug and plug in new one
Not a Kia employee. Same issue. For this car I disagree with drilling the rivets. To confirm my thoughts, I dropped the window down all the way and now I can pull the top of the inner panel back a little bit. I can see what I thought. The window tracks are part of the door module or inner panel. I have not done this yet but I’m sure that the window needs to be disconnected from it’s two mounts before the inner panel (module) can be removed. Will try at a later time. Good luck to all.
Yeah I just lifted up and then out and the bottom came loose but couldn't get the top to be loose. Just laid down and put my arm up between and did what I need with 1 hand
Or remove the window by removing the grey plugs and uncrewing it. Then pull it up and fix it. Then the panel is loose lift it up and pull easily. It is easy if you get till there.
Did you ever figure this out? The only way to get at the door handle with the door module removed is to remove the glass, yes? That’s a horrible design. I couldn’t get the bottom to move far enough from the door frame to get my hand up there to disconnect the handle cable. What’s the secret to that? Does the window have to be up, down, half-way?
@@kandahsam I'm pretty sure. There is a chance they have nuts on the inside, but not likely. I've replaced regulators on other cars that were also like this. You had to drill them out but then the replacement came with nuts and bolts to put in place of the rivets.

Great idea!!! I also removed the glass and taped it up and easily reached the plug.
This worked great.

I took the 17 Niro into the dealership. They told me that it does not come painted and that it needs to be programmed. Is this true?

It's riveted to the window regulator. It won't come off unless you drill out those four silver rivets

Do not drill out the rivets you need to remove the 2 screws from behind the 2 Gray grommets to lift the window backup and remove the panel from the
First hand experience, DO NOT DRILL. Thoses rivets hold the window pullies which tension the cables. Do this and your window will no longer work.
