What about amp head going into a load box? ie. UA Oxbox or Two Notes torpedo? Thx for this video, very helpful

So here, it's basically the same game, you just wanna match the impedance of the amp and the load box; the load box simply replaces the speaker cab. I just checked out these two load boxes (really cool btw), and they both have variable impedance knobs, meaning you can change it to meet your amplifier.
Most amps give you multiple output impedance options, so you can use a variety of speakers with it. They are usually labeled clearly on the back right next to speaker output, and so set your load box impedance knob to match the output of the amp. In cases you can't tell, I found this from the UA manual:
"Many amps have multiple speaker output jacks with different impedance labels (4Ω, 8Ω, etc.) for each output jack. If the amp’s speaker output impedance cannot be determined, set OX’s IMPEDANCE knob to 8 ohms."
The big danger is when you have a low impedance amp (say 4 ohm), and lets say you set your load box to 16 ohm, your amp is going to attempt to output 4x the power that it normally would! This particular mismatch is the most dangerous, which is why UA suggests 8 ohm to be safe.
If you do this, your amp will be toast lol, and more seriously if you did that and walked away there's now a time bomb for a fire. Smaller mismatches are less dangerous and may just burn your amp tubes more quickly, melt wires, solder can shift and create circuit breaks, etc
I need to try the OX Box out, this looks really rad, hope this was helpful! Sorry for the long reply, it's just a tricky topic and there's safety involved of course so I feel obligated to be a little long winded rather than contribute to a fire:) cheers!

If so important why don't they make speaker cables look different?

      Just learn your craft properly

Hmmmm. I currently have a speaker cable acting as an instrument cable lol. And I've used instrument cables as speaker cables on accident.
    🤔🤷

Not to sound too preachy here or overly alarmist, but using an instrument cable in situations where speaker cable is required, this is a serious fire hazard.
It won’t necessarily happen right away either, so it’s easy to think it’s fine and then 15-20 min later….
Certain setups not a big deal, but a PA system with thousands of watts involved, it’s incredibly serious in a venue full of people.

@Leland_Elliott yes I know. It was an accident. 🤦

      And yes you're being preachy.

@@J.C... bet, well the way you shared that suggested you did it and there was no consequences, with the 🤷 shrug like it didn’t matter.
It’s kind of like saying “I put a fork in an outlet and nothing happened 🤷 “ like how’s that adding to a conversation?
You right lol, was just trying to be helpful, thanks for the input.
