The crazy thing about The Descent is it was marketed with zero mention or reference to the creatures so when they first encountered them the audience lost their shit.
Manhunter is so damn underrated. I put it up there with Silence of the Lambs . The entire energy, look, and feel of the movie is no question mid 80s Michael Mann. Just a fantastic movie. And it was made for TV on top of that. And Waxwork was released right when I was 12-13 years old. I just loved this movie. The mid to late 80s horror flicks don't get enough credit.
Thanks for another great list of recommendations. "Men" is definitely worth watching. With so many sequels, re-makes and copycat movies out there, "Men" stands out as truly original. Creepy as hell too.
My dude! You are THE BEST at this! I’ve discovered more movies I haven’t seen and end up loving, from your channel than any of the others I follow. Thank you!
Love that you really appreciated Alex Garland‘s Men. He makes amazing movies and I always felt that was a work of art as well. 😱 I hope doing better Kainan.
I've started watching it but got distracted since it's a bit of a slow burn. Making you uncomfortable, that's a good review. I'll give it another chance
The Invitation is such a good movie. It's a slow burn, but it just has that feeling of dread and something isn't right the whole time. The end as simple as it is, scared the scrap out of me.
Great list as always! I had not heard of "Men" & folk horror is my favorite. Also, I'm a huge fan of Rory Kinnear, ever since seeing him as Frankenstein's monster in Penny Dreadful. I'm 100% in agreement with you on all the movies I have seen on this list (The Descent, Abigail, Waxwork, The Invitation),...I will also be watching: Return of the Living Dead 3, The Deep House, Unseen. I don't remember if I've seen Manhunter,..so I may check that out, I'm a fan of William Petersen & Brian Cox.
OMG I'm so glad you mentioned Waxwork!! I've been watching this since I was kid and it's always on my yearly rewatch list. It is so good. Edit: another OMG for Return of the Living Dead 3 another classic I watch over and over. Thanks for giving these some focus and love :D
Gen X here to say my gen z daughter and I watched his special probably 10 years ago and both loved it. We both saw the sincerity of his intentions behind the mask of comedy .
Great list!!!! I LOVE Manhunter - IMO it's superior in many ways to SOTL. I also love Waxworks - quintessential 80's horror flick. The ending of Men....OMG. I assume that's the scene you refer to. Me too! And you're right - the cinematography is GORGEOUS. One flick I always like to mention that doesn't get nearly as much love as it should - Repo! The Genetic Opera. It took me forever to get myself to watch it, and i fell in love with this movie. And it's free on Prime, as well as on Tubi.❤ I hope you're feeling better! Diabetes really sucks.❤
I had a fun moment showing the Invitation to some of my friends, who kept egging me to tell them about what's going to happen. And boy oh boy, when stuff starts to get real, my friends were def left 😮, like I was my first time seeing the invitation. Especially the major reval that happens.
I'm also chronically ill and have been down the last week or so. Hope you feel better for winter holiday season. I love EVERY single one of these movies, deep house really surprised me!!
Kanan, I hope you are feeling better. I am a T1D, known since I was 16yo. I know how difficult this disease can be…both physically and mentally. Each and every day. I enjoy all your videos and to hear your views on all of the great horror.
I just got done watching Deep House and that movie was freaking amazing! I have a fear of downing, so the last 10 minutes of the movie was pure torture lol.....Thanks again!!
Thank you for the rec for Manhunter.! I thought I'd seen the movie, probably because I'd read the novel, but I hadn't. Great adaption and I really liked William Petersen's version of Will Graham. Then I had to rewatch Red Dragon with Mr. Hopkins, of course. 😂 Amazing how the two adaptions of the exact same plot were different enough that I was chilled and entertained watching both.
Return of the Living Dead Part 3 got lots of love in late 90's and 2000s. Now with so many films around Return 3 and other great movies get forgotten. But you remember it and spread the gospel.
Love love love The Descent. Im jaded so rarely get scared or creeped out by horror movies 🎬. But this 1 is awesome. You're so right. I like the sequel as well. First is my favorite, but like how the sequel explains things. Liked Abigail also. Its just fun. The humor is great.
I am a type 1 diabetic myself, and I am frequently very ill despite taking good care of my disease management. Hope you are feeling better. I enjoy your videos immensely.
@ yes, I’ve been on an insulin pump for about. 22 years, but I’ve been T1 for about 45 years total. My control has had good times, and bad, depending on my behavior, lol. I currently have MRSA since my immune system is garbage. I hate being a diabetic. Having my daughter nearly killed me.
@ I found out I was a type one when I was 20 but I was in really poor health cause they think I was born with it. But never saw a doctor to find out. So it’s always been a struggle. But I don’t let it stop me no matter what.
I was sick 2 weeks ago and also did a rabbit hole on the dive talk guys, Ed sorenson recovery videos etc. Jaws made me scared of deep water. The descent made me scared of caves. Great movie!!
Oh my gosh, there are so many other movies with the title The Invitation--- and this is THE ONE!!! And so many more people need to watch Manhunter. Such a great 80s vibe. Have not seen Men, but really love all the others. And here is a heartfelt wish that you feel better soon❤❤❤
Omg. "Unseen" seemed intriguing so I started with that one tonight, and boy was it a treat, I loved it, and so glad I got to watch a movie I enjoyed so much, that I may not have stumbled upon on my own! So thank you for the recommendation 🙌🏼
Sorry to hear of your health woes, but at least you were able to watch some great movies. Three of my faves are on your list. Manhunter, Waxworks and Return of the Living Dead III. I’ve always liked Manhunter best out of the Lecter series of films. Return of the Living Dead III is just a flat out great zombie flick. If it wasn’t a sequel it would probably be considered one of the best of its type on its own. Waxworks is one of my guilty pleasure movies. I actually like its sequel a little better. That scene where the protagonists are fighting and bouncing through different parallel dimensions is a gas. Especially when they wind up briefly in the mall from Dawn of the Dead. Excellent review and a lot of fun. Have a happy thanksgiving brother.
I'm sorry but I'm in camp of people who Hated Men it was just a Tarrable movie to me but then you followed it up with two Great movies the invitation and Mindhunter and that's why I keep coming back to this channel most of your picks are really good and you gave me a couple of movies I never watched before unseen and return of the living Dead 3 I'll be checking out soon 🙂👍
I hope you feel better ASAP, Bruddha. I was coughing all last week and finally last night pulled a muscle in my rib cage while coughing so hard and it’s probably the most pain I can remember being in. Trying to stay as immobile as possible, and your lists are really helpful.
I will have to watch "Men" again. It was so creepy, I didn't properly appreciate the cinematography of the film. It had some amazing moments, artistically.
Sorry to hear you were sick feel better soon. Cool list Manhunter is one of my all time favorites got the DVD years ago. Also I enjoyed ROTLD 3. I Saw Men...didn't hate it...didn't quite get it 🤔
I hope you are feeling a lot better. It sucks to feel shitty but feels even worse when you're sick during the holidays. As always, thanks for the hard work you put into your channel.
Dude, ANYTHING Kyle Gallner is in is worth watching just for him, he's SO good. The Descent is brilliant. I'm not especially claustrophobic but there's NO WAY you'd get me going caving after seeing that movie. The cast are fantastic, too. IDGAF what else is involved, I wanted to see Abigail the moment I knew Dan Stevens was in it. I'm straight af but that man does things to me. Waxwork is cool. I only just checked it out a few months ago because of Deborah Foreman, I've had a thing for her since I first saw her in My Chauffeur with Sam J Jones, and I wasn't disappointed. Men is fucking INSANE and I love it. I watched it purely based on Rory Kinnear being there and JFC was it worth it!? For what it does, it IS perfect to me. Even without the underlying message of how dangerous we men can be to women, it's an iconic movie. Everything else you mentioned is going straight on my watchlist, there's some gems there I've either never heard of or just not really been interested in before now.
Oh man?! I love Kyle Gellner. How have I not heard of this one. I'm def in for Alien Code. If anybody reading this comment also likes Gallner and hasn't seen The Cleansing Hour, they really should. I watched The Invitation recently and all I can say is OH HELL YEAH!!! Manhunt for sure is a must see. Now Unseen piques my interesting. It had def flown under my radar.
Hi I watched last night the movie : Law Abiding Citizen after all this years. I think it’s worth mentioning this film because it has great cast, it is gory and clever.
I really appreciated all of the recommendations in this video. LOVE The Descent. I bought it on DVD shortly after seeing it just so I knew I'd have some way of always watching and/or sharing with others. Also wondering if you could give some recommendations as to what spelunking videos you'd seen that might be good to watch? Totally okay if you can't, but just thought it'd be fun to see it. And, thank you for your insight into Men. I've been very interested in watching this film and was grateful for your empathetic look into how it could be viewed from the exact person who created it. Great video, completely! 😊
Thank you for recommending Brimstone, I truly enjoyed that movie! Dakota Fanning played an awesome part! Sorry to hear you have been feeling well, being diabetic comes with it's unfortunate days. I sometimes have off days, too. I certainly love this list. I plan on checking out a few that I've not seen it! I was excited about Prime having Annabelle! It was better than I expected! Now off to check out some of this list.❤
Yet again, another awesome video. I definitely want to check out the first movie. If it's ok with you, can I light a candle for you and your health? I want you to stay around for a long time and keep recommending really good horror movies. 😊😊😊
I rented Return of the Living Dead 3 as soon as it hit the video store and I thought it was incredible. That first zombie they brought back to life in the base was something I had never seen before, I’ve watched it several times throughout the years.
Good list. Still not sure what I think about Men. I hate quit watching it at one point and put it in my top 10 horror list of the year. It is very well acted and a really good looking and had a lot of memorable visual moments. It flirts with being a masterpiece but... it's just SOOOOO heavy handed. Maybe that was the point, that that is how some women feel at times. It felt similar to the first time I watched Halloween Kills. And Return of The Living Dead III is definitely underappreciated in my opinion.
That is exactly the point, the movie isn’t realistic it’s meant to basically have a conversation when open minded men about how we make woman feel. And I’ve talked to a lot of woman who felt that the message is actually super powerful. If it wasn’t so heavy handed it wouldn’t be as effective and shocking
I went into Abigail blind a few days ago and just thought it was a normal kidnap ransom crime type movie of a girl that could see the future or was telekinetic or something (the description said kidnapping of a girl that had supernatural abilities). I highly enjoyed this movie and the vampire twist it took, I didn't see that coming and would have enjoyed the movie half as much if I seen the trailer first. I make a point of stopping a trailer a quarter of the way in if I'm already sold or avoid a trailer altogether if it's been recommended, as I hate spoilers and most trailers nowadays are horribly riddled with spoilers.
Anthony hickox is such a underrated writer/director in my humble opinion 😔 films like Hell on Earth and warlock 2 were highly entertaining and hell on earth is my favorite out of the hellrasier franchise! Waxwork is such a awesome cult classic 👏💯🔥cool to see you give love to Return of the Living dead3👏 i used to binge that film as a teen
I feel you on being sick. Our whole family is just getting over a terrible stomach flu. My bathroom looked like a horror movie set when we were sick. And yes, my personal bathroom....
This is another great list! As an adult I have become extremely claustrophobic so I have resisted watching the Descent. I finally watched it this past August and it was a great movie. I absolutely loved Abigail!!! ROTLD 3 was a fun movie, not at the same level as the first one, but worth watching. #2, not so much! I need to re-watch Manhunter again. It's been a while since I've seen it. The Silence of the Lambs is probably my #2 all time favorite movie because of Buffalo Bill, not Hannibal Lecter. I have added 3 of these to my watchlist. Thank for all of your efforts to putting out these videos. Take care of yourself, friend. Diabetes is a bitch.
I’m about halfway through deep house right now and I’m really enjoying it. It’s pretty dang creepy. Thanks for the suggestion. I’m always looking for something I haven’t seen. That’s good and trust me. It’s hard.
You have to review dead stream, nice little haunted house b movie. Also The Possession of Michael King is a pretty fun B movie that's often free on tubi.
I’m 100% in agreement with you about ‘Men.’ Yes, it has its flaws and might be tom ‘preachy’ for some people but it’s really just such a well-executed film. Brian Cox in ‘Mamhunter’ was PHENOMENAL, omg … Very different from ‘Red Dragon’ and the ‘Hannibal’ series but yes, such a great movie. Atmospheric, perfect pacing and again, Brian Cox is just brilliant (but he always is). Off topic but I finally got around to watching ‘Bliss’ off of your recommendation and HOLY COW, what a ride! My one little critique was the dialogue (for me it was a little childish, like trying a tad too hard to be cool and rebellious or whatever), but the way it looked ??? AMAZING. The whole look and feel was something I don’t think I’ve seen before and good lord, the special effects and gore were *chef’s kiss* . Thanks for the recommendation! Love your channel, and hope you’re going to make the Saturday night hangouts a regular thing.
You should do an entire episode on 80s horror movies (There was a ton of good ones).. I see Dreamscape is on Prime right now too! Havent seen that in forever! (Kinda Sci-Fi though)
THE DESCENT, honestly, this is one of the best horrors ever made. It is absolutely perfect.
Excellent film.
@@a.lawrence4969 i'm watching it now
I AGREE!!!!
Aye, captain.
You gotta see Heretic, loved it.
The crazy thing about The Descent is it was marketed with zero mention or reference to the creatures so when they first encountered them the audience lost their shit.
Deep house is a unnerving masterpiece 😂❤
thats how i felt about dusk til dawn and devils advocate. when i watched them i had no idea they were monster movies lol but i didnt like descent
Manhunter is so damn underrated. I put it up there with Silence of the Lambs . The entire energy, look, and feel of the movie is no question mid 80s Michael Mann. Just a fantastic movie. And it was made for TV on top of that.

So good. Creepy as f**k
I think it's way better than SOTL, the latter is quite overrated I feel.
It is NOT in the same class as Silence
Manhunter is the best, love Michael Mann!
It is DEFINITELY better than the sleepwalking remake, Red Dragon. What true film fan would choose Brett Ratner over Michael Mann?
Thanks for another great list of recommendations. "Men" is definitely worth watching. With so many sequels, re-makes and copycat movies out there, "Men" stands out as truly original. Creepy as hell too.

hope you're feeling better. thank you for the list. love the channel.

The Descent is still excellent. Abigail is a hell of lot of fun. Unseen is superb and really enjoyed it
The descent is a horrible, boring movie.
I watch The Descent every few years. And I just had to go down that rabbit hole, too. I'm scared of heights, but claustrophobia wins, hands down.
Love that you really appreciated Alex Garland‘s Men. He makes amazing movies and I always felt that was a work of art as well. 😱
I hope doing better Kainan.
Thanks!

Men, made me so uncomfortable, and I loved every minute of it.
Great film
Agreed
I've started watching it but got distracted since it's a bit of a slow burn. Making you uncomfortable, that's a good review. I'll give it another chance

“Alien Code” was pretty good. Thanks
You highlighted some good ones!

Alien Code is definitely a hidden gem, massively underrated.
Cave divers are out of their minds.

I'm not a good swimmer.
A bit afraid of the ocean
I'm claustrophobic.

As a slightly claustrophobic person, I found The Descent horrifying on so many levels.
I saw the movie MEN and loved it!!
Looks great and has some interesting, crazy body horror!!
The Descent is horror perfection, love Neil Marshall's work
I feel you on being sick. Our whole family is just getting over a terrible stomach flu. My bathroom looked like a horror movie set when we were sick. And yes, my personal bathroom....
No dives, no cave exploring, no trips to places with monkeys! Thx for the reviews, hope you're feeling much better.
The decent is also amazing!!! It was truly scary even before the creatures.
I think this movie was inspiration for the CSI TV series which also starred William Peterson.
Manhunter!!! Yes Sir! Michael Mann's 2nd best film behind 'Heat'.
Ooh and Cabin Fever ❤
I loved the deep house, it had had the diving then super natural and the story It’s one of my most memorable movies of the past couple of years.
I agree with “ The Invitation “ really enjoyed the build up
Sorry you didn’t feel well. I expect you are doing better. The decent 1 & 2 were great.
I LOVED the man!!! What a piece of art!!! 10/10
I’m about halfway through deep house right now and I’m really enjoying it. It’s pretty dang creepy. Thanks for the suggestion. I’m always looking for something I haven’t seen. That’s good and trust me. It’s hard.
Pitch black was really good too ❤
Absolutely!
Please get better. Luv your website! 💜😎
Thank you 😊
You have to review dead stream, nice little haunted house b movie. Also The Possession of Michael King is a pretty fun B movie that's often free on tubi.
Weirdly enough it’s in tomorrows found footage video
The decent deserves every ounce of those 3 “highly’s” lol. It’s been one of my favorites for a long time.
Both that and the invitation has to be to in my top 20 all time.
No mention of Angus Cloud? RIP sweet boy😢😢😢
When I did review the movie I mentioned it.
Unseen is an awesome movie that I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend.
The Deep House has become one of my favorites of the last 10 years; unique, unsettling, well acted. A must see in my opinion.
It is, horror movies is about all I watch and this movie was so intense for me it’s one of the most memorable movies I’ve seen in the past few years.
I’ve done my top 10 of the 80s
Abigail is my favorite movie of 2024❤
The Decent was ok,I liked the second cut ending better than the first cut.
Thank you Pirate!
