Why Being a Queen Hornet Doesn't Mean a Life of Luxury

- Despite their name, Queen hornets don't live a life of leisure. In fact, queens that survive the winter have to find a new site for their colony, forage for food, lay eggs and feed their growing larvae - singlehandedly.

It's just like being a mom but your children actually try to help you instead of make things more difficult.
Yes. Excellent analogy!
Gabriel Afonso “Who’s going to pay for this!” “mf’er you had me wdym? 😂”
Gabriel Afonso nah she’s to edgy for that she’ll have em any way
Gabriel Afonso she will die if she isn’t pregnant
Hornet queens eventually get killed if it's too cold
The male drones are actually the ones "treated like royalty"... they literally have no role outside reproduction.
Neither does any other life form
@@Buttington_Headerson you're not wrong
Eye Conqueror huh
that’s because they get to die right after
@@Buttington_Headerson Except for mammals, the male of the species has to do the hard work to win a female

BlaadeKing 1 How is it cool? I kinda hate it.
This is like a frick chamber reference from a guy who plays minecraft
Dude you forgot to delete the word after you got the emoji funny 😄 laugh 😂
Why isn't this a cute indie game yet? Start your bee hive and survive
DITTO! YES I would love a game like that! There’s already tons of games about ant colonies.
Keep suggesting to different sites and someone who's a game developer may look into it and make it happen

Him I can't understand who is brad andlusa?
Gopal P it’s a joke-
Wow, didnt realize just how much bigger the queen was until she and her hatchling got into the same frame together.
To lay eggs forge food and defend
It's so frickin' amazing that we can see things like this with our cameras, and we can see larger animals with our telescopic cameras.
Think about it: Just 20 years ago, we didnt have the cameras we have now.
When you watch animal shows, think of how lucky you are!
Only the modern era has technology that allows filming- and, importantly, sharing- on this scale!
You are watching this FOR FREE!
When I was a kid back in the 90's, we didn't have internet!
We had to watch whatever was on television. Oh, and we could not record anything unless we used a cassette tape- and our VHS player had to have the capability to record!
We are so fortunate to have so much information literally at our fingertips!
You can learn everything you need to, and see places and things you wouldn't otherwise, without traveling very far!
Just so frickin' amazing!
So much to learn!
Feels like I'm 100

Yess, it’s so amazing! Technology really can be a wonderful thing!

Her reaction is priceless
The queen looked so happy and excited when she saw her first hatchling, god I love animals even if they can cause intense pain
1:30 the baby larvae, each hungrily chewing on their blobs of grub. So darn cute
Being a queen is a lot of sacrifice

That's one of the reasons I always hated bees. Their combs are just eye torture; Always scared me.

The size of the queen is horrifying
Aww they're so strangely adorable!
They are, till they decide to commit genocide on an entire bee colony
@@WAVE0025 Or till the bees cook a Hornet
Gotta say the queens reaction to seeing one of her first born was actually pretty cool like she was so shocked but also happy
I actually admire the wasp queen. She is a brave mother who sacrifices a lot for her hive. She lays all the eggs and takes care of them till she finally has a helper. Less than a year later , she is killed by the ones she did so much to raise. Even though hornets are nasty little beasts I do feel sorry for the queen.
So getting hatched is like waking up and helping your mom or dad
No one gonna talk about how they filmed it?!
Great video for seing another perspective of hornets; a lot of people are so scared of them and do not realize they are so interesting
Being Interesting doesn’t make them less scary, you know
The size difference of the queen is quite impressive
Its like the newborn bees knew that what his life is supposed to be from the beginning to the end
Man..i love the reaction of the queen wasp when he suddenly saw her first baby😍😳
And then just like:oh..first baby?. *anyways* 😆😂
1:05 to 1:10 The larva dragging there mandibles on the comb is to signal there hungry, if I remember right.
Shows always leave out that interesting tidbit.
11:27 look at that size comparison
It ended, where is it?
1:27 I think.
Is nobody gonna talk about how the heck they were able to fit the camera inside the hornet nest?
Adorable how siblings will tend to their eggs.
Bro I can’t stop watching these documentaries
how do they get the camera into the hornets nest? I can imagine one getting stung hundreds of times trying to collect the footage
This was cool, wish it was longer
is there a longer version of this?
I like how the eggs are so small and when they hatch it’s like boi..
After 14 days of wait she is finally able to see her labourer slaves.
*An Actual QUEEN*
*new born hornet: aight imma hutsle now
so the worker's tasks are automatically assigned and are divided equally into three depending on the species sometimes two. worker A will dig tunnels and spit out dirt (for underground nests), worker B brings wooden fibers to build the nest and worker C hunts insects for food.
Love the videos but way too short
Might be just me, but these things are kind of cute.
Where can we get the full version of this video?
In a tree mate where there's a hornets hive
@@Rabbitoh72 which state please help :(
Tammy Jackson I’d say in a real state Tammy with a heap of hornets. I’d personally be beside myself
That's some smooth video footage
its crazy that as soon as they are born they already know what to do
Amazing video..
The hornet queen: *ah ***** here we go again
Dang, the smithsonian are magical people on getting cool shots like this
Imagine if the Hornet had Trypophobia 🤣
Just hornets or all bees? They all build nests.
Everyone loves to gives wasps and hornets a lot of grief, despite the fact they largely prey on pests that would otherwise cause widespread plant death if they weren't around, murdering things with violent intent.
everybody gangsta until a burg pecks in and kills the whole hive
excited for winter ❄⛄again
I can picture the larvae saying nom nom nom
drone queen: how about a new game?
All great things have Small beginnings
I hate hornets but when the first baby hatched and she looked suprised I was just like: awe
Aww cute hornets!
No money to pay for the nannies.
No need to go to a angency center for nannies.
The queen hornet just wait
I know this narrator from the Planet egypt series🙌🏼
This is a great video but why is soooooo short 😶
A year later *gets yeeted out of her own colony*
The queen looks huge!
Hornet queens do work their heads off. Full respects 🙌
Until they viciously attack you with their stingers
Uhm am I the only one that wonders how the film crew took this shots like they’re part of the hive just casually observing
Thank you for interesting video. Best wishes to wasps lovers!
Thank you, I always try to see if I can observe a yellowjacket nest, but they are rare and you have to be lucky to find one.
Can anyone tell me how many days it takes from larvae to mother hornet
I hate most insects but this was fascinating to watch. Where's the father?
They die after mating....
Gone off to get a carton of milk and a pack of cigarettes. It’s been a couple months.
He needed to go to the store
*PERMANENTLY*
Most male insects dont father, and most die shortly after mating.
It’s like a little *family lol*
The real question: how the camera man gets in the hive
If only human queens were this useful 🤷♂️
Air crash got prevented cause the pilot is pro at doing the work
wrong video
Can anyone explain how this was recorded?
a camera
Hornets be like Send out the fleet
Sounds like most riches in my place. Lots of wealth but spend most of time at work, so no time to enjoy their money. And they can't stop cause they're morally obliged to hundreds of employees whose livelihood depends on them
Boo hoo
This is so sad.. I think
They're not really rich if they're working
It's like she is doing a clock around and around and around
I DONT KNOW WHY THE LARVAE LOOKS SO GROSS REEEEEE
The queen looks so much larger than the worker
When you're a teenager but can't go out because you have to babysit.
How it feels building automatic farms in minecraft
Its just like being a parent of like ten-thirteen children feeding 24/7
You let that thing live
My grandmother raised her kids this way.
Lapzzz: a forgotten beehive
Ill remember this next time im a queen wasp
Wait so over time she has to mate her own children!!??? :/
This not a full vidio!!
😓 the poor mom!
What amazes me is they know what to do the second they're born. We humans don't know how to walk on day 1. Why can't we pass on our knowledge like ALL OTHER animals? Why must we start with a blank mind?
I watching this at 9:20 and I don't even like bugs Im just bored 😂
Imagine your kids helping you actually no that can't even be a thought 😂
Harmony everyone knows what they need to you do.🙂
lol fail
I know a hornet when I see one.
