- Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy:
Overture "Ruy Blas", Op. 95, MWV P 15 (with Score)
Composed: 1839
Conductor: Leonard Bernstein
Orchestra: New York Philharmonic
Felix Mendelssohn's (1809-1847) overture to Ruy Blas dates from 1839. Early in that year the Theatrical Pension Fund in Leipzig requested music to accompany a benefit performance of Hugo's play. Though Mendelssohn was not an admirer of Hugo, he later wrote: "Few of my works have caused me more amusing excitement." The renowned English virtuoso Edwin H. Lemare (1865-1934) published his arrangement with Novello in 1899. Though Lemare's version is used as the basis for this performance, much is gained by judicious tailoring of a transcription to suit the unique resources of a specific instrument, not to mention the greater versatility offered by the registrational controls available to us today. - เพลง
One of my favorite overtures. So underrated!
I first heard this as a musical accompaniment to the 1926 silent film Metropolis. The soundtrack included Mendelssohn's Italian Symphony (4), the String Quartets by Debussy and Ravel also. But this piece stood out amongst everything.
I haven't heard 'Ruy Blas' for a few years, I had forgotten how great it is!
Está geniaaal, tan lleno de energía! Y las cuerdas suenan tan pro 😵😵❤️
What a powerful performance!!. Thanks for sharing ^^
Wow, what a clip!
As heard in a few Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons, such as _Porky's Movie Mystery_ and _The Scarlet Pumpernickel._
mendelssohn is insane
For me Mendelssohn is among the TOP 1 composers.

Never would I've guessed that there is a Bernstein performance I would like.
Bold, but I somewhat agree. His analysis’ are supreme, but he has a distinctly unusual way of interpreting pieces.
Schwungvolle Aufführung, leider ist die Partitur praktisch unlesbar...😟
Lament bass.
