      Buddy. This guy is a total hack. DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM.
      Mikuni themselves say you're supposed to aim the accelerator pump jet at the needle so BOTH cylinders get even fuel distribution.

    Thanks for the detailed rebuild. I just did this for my Mikuni on a 1999 FXDL. This bike has not run properly since I inherited it after my buddy passed away. It is finally starting up without having to choke it out. I had almost lost hope because I paid someone to rebuild this and later found out that he didn’t actually rebuild it, he just replaced a couple of gaskets. Thanks again for the awesome video.

    Ive had a Mikuni HSR carb on my 97 FLSTC for a least 4yrs and don't ride as much as I used to. It starts up fairly easy but, starting to foul my spark plugs after a few short rides? I can't believe this fairly new carb would need to be torn down and rebuilt?

      @@ProjectDadLife Thanks for getting back. It's a S&S was told its 113ci. Havnt tried to verify with serial # as yet. Dude did say it didnt run so good the last couple years he had it. Carb was horribly dirty. Took a bit to clean. We dont get the same riding period as yourself. We may get 4 months then the cold sets back in. When pulled plugs, black from fuel. May have been from dirty carb? Compression at 178 both cyls.

    You mentioned that the circlip on the needle was near the lowest position making a leaner condition. Wouldn't it be a richer condition due to the needle not going as far down into the seat? That's how it is on my dirt bike anyway.

    question... Does the emulsion tube extend out into the area with the throttle plate/ intake area? I have a friend that is rebuilding one but i think he might be missing the emulsion tube. the reason i think it might be missing is at full throttle the needle will pull completely out of the bottom of the carb and hang on the inside of the throttle plate/intake area.

    I have a carburetor like this, I replaced the AP o-ring, plunger, spring, the rubber bushing that rod slides in, bowl o-ring, and the rubber cap/boot. Everything but the float is new and oem stock part #s. I know the rod pushes the plunger down and pulls fuel from bowl of carb then when it goes up it pushes fuel thru a port into the jet made into bowl, then sealed & spraying through the pump nozzle/jet....it has me baffled. Any suggestions?

    • @dgmenace73

      I know this is a little late but how does it run? Mikuni says that with aftermarket exhaust (loud pipes) you should run a 165 main so your 167 is probably fine. The idle jet is probably good too in that bike.

    What did you mean when you said..."know to start it" when you were speaking about the Mikuni. I have an HSR-42 but there is no procedure that I follow.

    • @ProjectDadLife
      @ProjectDadLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok so here’s the procedure. Twist throttle 2-3 times for a fuel squirt. Pull choke and hit starter button. Never twist the throttle while trying to start the flat slide carb will cause a lean back fire back through the carb. It causes the starter to get chewed up and also won’t start. Repeat above procedure until it fires and stays running then back off choke and adjust idle! Thanks for watching.

    • @CarlosGarcia-ls4hn
      @CarlosGarcia-ls4hn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProjectDadLife I just tried that, and did not work for me. I have an enrichener instead of a choke. When I bleeped it twice, I got a backfire thru the carburetor, and smoke came out. It had never done that before. I think that with a enrichener and bleeping it, too much gas goes into the carb. I will try it next time bleeping it just once to see if that works.

    • @ProjectDadLife
      @ProjectDadLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok cool yes also every setup is going to be a bit different. In my experience mukuni carb never do well cranking while twisting the throttle. Any luck with it?

    • @CarlosGarcia-ls4hn
      @CarlosGarcia-ls4hn 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProjectDadLife A single bleep of the throttle seems to works best for me. What I do is pull out the enrichener. I leave it out, then I bleep it once. The last thing I do after the bleep, is..I hit the starter. It starts fine then. I then just play with the enrichener to get me the best idle until it runs smoothly.
