Just fixed mine! this tutorial was awesome but was stuck for ages at 20:17 because it isn't mentioned that the little clip slides out and makes it so you can put the ribbon underneath

I just watched this video and replaced view finder ribbon but still have a black screen in VTR... the buttons on the tape side stopped lighting up.. any ideas on what to fix next?
followed instructions to a T but the ribbon cable connector on the camera snapped off after the slightest bit of pressure while trying to insert the ribbon cable. perhaps the soldering was worn off already... anybody had this happen to them and if so could u fix it somehow??

I got a problem with my vx, everything seems fine but at times my viewfinder will go purple redish , if I move a certain way it'll go back to regular colors . I thought maybe something is loose inside my camera . hope you can help me out on trying to solve this problem. Thanks !
It maybe that your viewfinder ribbon cable is broken slightly, they bend when you move them and tend to snap in that spot. But sometimes they only snap half way so it's still works but sometimes cuts out or gives funny colours. Or you have a problem with the mother board which is a big problem
@@mattfirmin11 I never had the problem until I got my Vx1000 back from getting repaired for a glitch problem that'll appear on the footage and the timecode will skip, they fixed that but when I got it back my viewfinder was all purple , and I couldn't see the timecode bar anymore. I sent it back to them and I told them that they gave me a new problem with my viewfinder, hopefully they'll fix right this time .
hello, my vx 1000 has a problem and I regard the heads! It does all the work correctly, but does not leave the movies in the mini dv! I filmed 30 minutes, but when I poured the tape was completely black! could you give me some advice? thank you
Just did this fix. Before my viewfinder was completely black. Now, when the VX turns on the viewfinder screen goes white (and displays some info like battery and time left on the tape) for 2 seconds before turning black again. Have I just connected something incorrectly or was the problem not the original ribbon?
Hey Matt I also find myself revisiting these videos, had a quick question for ya. I have a vx and the image is being distorted quite heavily although I can vaguely distinguish what I’m pointing at. I’m thinking a ribbon cable may be not entirely connected but I’m curious if you have any tips
Hey, it's hard to tell without seeing the camera. But by the sounds of it you might be facing another problem other than the viewfinder ribbon cable. It's worth opening the camera up to check the viewfinder first, but it maybe the tape deck heads are dirty or a more serious problem with the motherboard.
Perfect, it worked for me! A couple of captions are wrong by the way. Can I ask you something since it seems you know this camera very well? My vx1000 has a broken ND filter switch, I can't lift it up. I was told it must be easy to reinsert the pin, but the problem is to open that part of the camera. I have seen the service manual but it gave me a headache... you have any idea how to easily access that part? Thanks
I need to replace the viewfinder ribbon, but 2 screws on the handle are badly threaded and they won't come out, (so the handle won't come off) is there away around this? Thanks

+Alby J it will be the cable then dude, they tend to split but not break all the way and thats when the colors go a bit crazy. follow the steps in the video and you will porbs see that your cable has worn or broken.
Hello, I have the viewfinder installed on my vx2000, but I don’t have the upper part, the viewfinder magnifier, do you know where I can find one or if I could take one from another vx1000/2000 ?
I would say ebay would be the best bet. And I believe the clip is the same it's just they switched up the rubber eye cup for the 2000. It's tough now finding parts depending on where you are in the world, sadly these cameras are getting more rare by the day
That’s the thing. I don’t really know. You know how the screen on the door looks whenever the camera is actually up and running. Shutter speed, white balance info etc.. well as of lately it turns on for a split sec, it turns off. It turns on, I look into the viewfinder, staticky white image is what I see. I switch it on and off and the door screen will have a full battery icon and a tape with a slash icon and word “min” in very tiny letters and i can hear the beeping noises of the knob & nothing. Sometimes it’ll just turn off on it’s own! Every so often I alternate the batteries trying to troubleshoot the issue and it’ll turn on and run. I turn it off and turn it back on, it works. I put it away for awhile, I get back to it. Same problem... I have no idea and it’s weird because the first few days I’ve had it it worked just fine, no issues.
I made the video as easy to follow as I could. Maybe watch it a few times and take some notes. Just take things slow and you should be able to manage it! Keep the screws somewhere safe!
Hey man, I got a 2k and sometimes the audio randomly cuts out but only for very tiny increments. Is it the audio peaking or is there something wrong with the mic? Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand though it was mentioned as a joke in transworld 2004, it peaked my interest a ton and I am very curious if the "VX 1500 Frankenstein" has a chance at ever existing.

One question though, on a vx1000 camera i just bought, the video shoots magnificent, however the audio plays this loud screeching static noise that is very annoying, i don't have a new ribbon cable for the microphone, but i went in there anyway and just took it out and put it back in, sadly no luck, do you think a new microphone cable would do the trick? or perhaps a headcleaning? what do you think?
yea I'm pretty sure volume settings are good, ill double check though. As for the sounds, I myself hear only the buzzing, however maybe i can send captured footage of it to you so you can see first hand, do you have an email?

My Sony VX1000E has just developed a problem. When I record it is not recording the picture, instead it is recording a black screen, like video black. When I look through the viewfinder before recording all is fine, I see the image, but after I have finished recording and then use the edit search buttons to see the recording there is nothing just a black screen, all I can see is the play symbol and the tape counter display etc, but no picture. Anybody ever encountered this problem before or got any advice. Really worrying me

I have taken apart a lot of VXs and never had an electric shock. Make sure the battery is removed and its not plugged into any mains power when you are taking it apart. In my experience no battery = no power so no electric shock

diamondjeshani without having a look at the camera dude it’s impossible to tell you the problem, it could be a number of things but to pin point it I would have to see the camera. So might be worth finding someone locally that can take a look at it for you

I changed the ribbon cable but still no image and I don't understand why.. like I can see the blue line, the battery level, the tape position and all the information but the image is still black, even if I tried to look at the tape nothings shows up. I've changed the ribbon cable and even open it again to make sure everything was well connected but I can't get no image. I just don't know what to do anymore I don't know where else to look for this problems If anybody could try to help I will deeply appreciate
@@benicioriva8168 if you can see the image through the viewfinder then that cable is not the problem. When you say control panel do you mean the back door?
@@benicioriva8168 yeah thats nothing to do with viewfinder, bit more complicated to fix! But not really needed as you should never be using the vx to rewind tapes etc anyway so you can do without it

Jason in the view finder as you getting the red light or any of the battery info? If not then should just be a loose cable! But if you have battery info and recording light is coming on it could be a bigger problem than just the viewfinder
Everything except the view finder works. It still films, gets audio, displays info on the backdoor, vtr mode works but its just the viewfinder. I had ordered a replacement cable but as I was putting it back together it ripped a little. A new one is on the way I just hope I have better luck this time around.

By as I said before, best way to check is to see if the info is showing up in the bottom bar of the view finder (battery level, recording time etc) if that is not showing it's more that likely the cable. hey, my vx viewfinder has recently gone super blue-ish dark, but i can still see a tiny bit out of it. Is this a view finder ribbon cable problem?

Have you checked your volume settings ? And if so is it recording sound as well as the buzzing or is the buzzing all you are getting?

make sure it’s in “standby” and not the locked position, check the little switch next to the record button
How big of a risk of electric shock is this? There's a warning label that says "do not open, risk of electric shock" on the bottom of my vx1000
I have taken apart a lot of VXs and never had an electric shock. Make sure the battery is removed and its not plugged into any mains power when you are taking it apart. In my experience no battery = no power so no electric shock
@@slavapiver8145 just try it without the clip and see if it works as finding a replacement might be a little difficult

diamondjeshani if you are recording fine and the footage playing back on the tapes is good then it will be just a veiwfinder problem for sure
