step 1: buy 5 jackets
step 2: buy a bunch of shoes
step 3: buy a bunch of trousers
Instructions unclear, shirtless
Step 6 : get step 1 & step 3 tailored for you
Are you surprised you have to buy clothes for this?
@@youtube_handled Although this is the typical "increasingly absurd steps" meme format, I think OP is being genuine
Jokes on him I only have one pair of shoes. It's even just a hand-me-down from my neighbor. 😂

His "casual" is like when Gordon Ramsay makes "street tacos"
Or when you see the teacher outside of school.
It is absolutely casual. It is casual for people who care to look halfway decent and not a bag of soup.

Love how you sound calm and polite yet not condescending by the slightest, this really makes me at ease
There is a certain air of elegance, refinment in simplicity.
And also be fit. That plays a lot in being "dressed nice"
Exactly. Put nice clothes on a flabby body: Meh. Put nice clothes on an aesthetic body: Amazing.
Being fit helps with literally everything doesn’t it
@@eneveasiyup
@@eneveasiit definitely does
Yeah having a good body shape makes most things look good 👍 especially with the right fit
As a very broke grad student during clinical rotation, I made due with 4 dress shirts and 4 pairs of trousers all from Goodwill. My shoes were my dad's old Florsheim oxfords in brown and black. I got way more compliments then on my clothes than in my more spendy and trendy days.
I did the same during college and grad school. There are some looks that just never go out of style and will very frequently get compliments if done correctly. There's absolutely nothing wrong with secondhand, either! (Unless it's Goodwill. Screw Goodwill.)
Just follow some basic rules, mainly that clothes should be clean and in good shape (no holes, stains, or fraying/thinning, nothing missing); be neat/straight (no wrinkles, nice creases if applicable); and be matching, or at least not clashing (there are plenty of websites about men's fashion with basic rules for this). And last but not least, *they should fit!* - not baggy, and not snug; they should compliment your body, not hide it and not reveal it! If you have a particular body shape that makes this part a little tricky, go ahead and put the extra effort into finding something that works for you, and just take good care of those clothes; it's absolutely worth it (I've been there myself), as the fit of a guy's clothes typically make a big impression on others that you meet, especially in professional and romantic settings.
Don't get me wrong, I'm far from a sartorial savant, but that's exactly why I had to teach myself these things in college, so that I could present myself to the world on my terms, and the difference really was immediate. So for any guys out there reading this who have struggled with this topic before, trust me when I say that it's really not hard to learn the basics, and dressing better is probably the quickest and easiest way to get a massive self-esteem (and attractiveness) boost 👍
PS - OP, sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread, this just kinda evolved into some basic advice for any guys out there struggling with this subject like I did in college
I’ve found some of my staple items at goodwill.
That's how I shop these days. My Goodwill and Salvation Army stores are located near affluent suburbs so I can always count on finding quality donated clothing from popular brands
Yes! My grandfather had his own law firm and wore Florsheim shoes to work; he would keep his pairs looking good for decades, always had them on shoe trees and properly polished when he wasn’t wearing them. When the soles wore out he would get them resoled. Classic leather shoes can last forever, with visits to the cobbler and proper care… people don’t know how to do that anymore.
"How to look like a college professor". You forgot the patches on the elbows 😂
So.. you do notice a pattern between cognitive competence and certain dressing characteristics.
"how to look like a professional". Fixed it for you.
I do say ol chap🧐
As a college professor, I learn a lot from He Spoke Style.
If he wore he fitting skin fit suit with buttons screaming for help and arms screaming for air....you would be the first one to ask him to dress his age.
The number 1 thing is to find clothes that actually fit you well
Yeah, having something that fits you well, enhancing the good and de-emphasising the bad is 99% of dressing well.
Obviously making sure the outfit is appropriate for the occasion is part as well, but a well fitting "casual" look is going to be sharper than a sloppy "formal" outfit.
That's why you get things tailored. That's like 70% of the point.
And that works for you
@@meisrerboot What’s the other 30%?
@@CertifiedFresh7 Getting a style that suits you, the correct materials, colors, patterns etc.
Agreed. I’ve really gravitated toward simple colors and patterns as I’ve entered my mid 30s.
I’m 23 and I want to build a wardrobe like this
@@tokologomamabolo1911 fhammmmm me too im 22 tho
I transitioned away from brands and to simple colours, nowadays the absolute most branding I wear on clothing is a very small logo. However my wardrobe needs a lot of work to reach the levels of this yt short so I'll be removing and replacing my clothes soon.
No harm in trying the odd pastel colour once in a while, especially in summer. Or subtle, like with a tie in colder months. Gentlemen's Gazette have done some vids on colours, I recall.
I love how he mentions the materials too
Do you also love men?
Keep it simple, just make sure you use you have a $5000 wardrobe of multiple $300 jackets, blazers, and shoes to go with all 30 of your $80 dress shirts. It's easy to look good when money isn't an issue.
OR you can save money and do like me - nobody should judge by clothes - I stick to a simple wardrobe - black short sleeve t-shirt, black casual trousers, black shoes. Belt on trousers, but my t-shirt goes over the trouser.........keeping it simple, if people are judged by their clothes over their skill and personality, then we have a big problem in society, fuck them all - I ain't spending $5k on clothes just to adhere to some "protocol" just for the looks - The hell with dress codes, who needs them unless you are a VIP guest and having dinner with t he Royal Family :P
@@jimmydandy9364 Nobody should, but everybody will. Dress appropriately to the situation. In countries like the US, being fit, just wearing chinos and a well fitting white tshirt is already above average, and in fact will be good enough for a lot of Europe as well.
If you have any thrift stores by you that’s a great place to start with a low budget, you might be surprised how many suits and blazers are being sold for a more affordable price
Thrift stores I've been to, I've seen a whole bunch of suits jackets, pants and shoes. And I get older I should probably start dressing more maturely
Hey, he said dressing well not dressing cheap

Dressing well means no bulging tummy
This could be fixed with higher rise pants. I myself do have a bit of a belly myself and having pants with a higher rise helped make my outfits look more flattering for me and my size.
A man without a belly is like a house without furniture - a saying we have in Arabic 😅

It’s not difficult. It’s expensive
it's better to have a few quality pieces of clothes than to have a lot of poor quality clothes that cost the same amount
That probably depends on where in the world you're living. It's not expensive where I live. It's also never about quality but fitment. A quality outfit that doesn't fit you well will look worse than a cheap outfit that has been adjusted to your body.
No it actually is difficult to a degree.
Money can't buy style. There are tons of rules and things you need to learn to dress good.

I would suggest trying to get over that. Perfection is the enemy of good style. You need to actually wear your clothes and move in them-you aren’t a mannequin.
