  • Competitive sub-$50,000 price point for petrol-electric mid-size SUV gives Toyota RAV4 Hybrid buyers a solid alternative 👉 Full Review: www.carsales.com.au/editorial...
The new-generation Nissan X-TRAIL has been well received by both critics and the public alike since its release in late 2022, but then in early 2023 the lavishly-equipped e-POWER Ti-L hybrid version arrived with a price tag that made a few people flinch - and Toyota RAV4 Hybrid owners grin.
However, that’s all set to change now with the launch of a competitively priced Nissan X-TRAIL hybrid variant - called the ST-L e-POWER - positioned just under $50,000 but still powered by the same unique range-extending all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain.
But we want to know - and we’re sure many potential buyers do too - whether this is a bare-bones model that ditches all of its creature comforts to reach an attractive price, or if it’s a genuine alternative to the RAV4 Hybrid and Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. We sent carsales senior editor Feann Torr to find out.

Love my brother's X Trail E Force Ti.
Quiet, responsive with excellent comfort and finishes.
EV driving experience without heavy batteries, range anxiety or need to plug in.
The sole negative is the lack of spare wheel.

5.6 as tested which is fantastic. When tested they usually drive them a bit harder than what the average driver does. Usually when reviewing cars they get at least 2 litres more than claimed, this used half a litre less.

Fuel consumption 6.1 litres per 100 KMs against 7.8 for petrol model. Costs an extra $5k. Have to use dearer higher octane fuel. Any saving won't kick in for 6-8 years. You can't be serious. . .

What people are really paying extra for is the turbo motor and smoother, quieter driving experience compared with the petrol CVT 2.5litre. Disclaimer - I haven’t driven them myself yet.

Sounds all very good but i get same fuel consumption from our Subaru, Buyers beware !! until the Government comes clean on cost of running EVs as they lose 0.44c tax in every dollar you spend on fuel where is the revue going to come from?

It needed a much bigger battery with a plug in. As it is it won't worry Toyota at all

It only needs to provide a reservoir of power until the engine can replenish it. How long can you use full throttle? As soon as you back off the battery is being recharged so it needs a much smaller battery than conventional hybrids.

How pointless at 6L/100. Might as well just buy a turbo diesel, which I suspect costs a lot less.

Heaps of power, no diesel clatter, quiet and refined. And 6L/100 is well under real world consumption in a petrol only equivalent vehicle. Plus, diesel is 20-30c more expensive per litre. Anything but pointless.

Yes, and it's premium fuel which is 20 to 30 cents per.litre more expensive than standard fuel. Waste of time.

The pricing you say is very deceptive, it is not sub$50,000 or $49490, it costs at least $55000 to buy it. Please correct this seriously misleading lead in.

What do you mean not fancy !
Jeeze it looks better then the Hyundai's and Kia's they brought out recently, too overdone and doesn't deserve all the hype coz it's weird history.
