I get the menthol smell for around 10 minutes. But it goes away and then every single person I've ever spent any time with while wearing Layton absolutely loves it. Women and men. The woman want to smell me and the guys want to know where they can get it. I basically disagree with everything you said in this review with the exception of the price. It is expensive but I would buy it again.

Exactly it smelled amazing the 1st time I smelled it. Ppl need to understand that fragrance where’s different on everyone’s skin. Also Layton is heavily discounted so it’s easy to find a bottle for a good price. I will agree though that blind buying is a no with any fragrance, always get samples 1st.

I have 2 bottles of Layton and 1 bottle of amber oud exclusif Bleu. It's so disrespectful with how close it is in smell and it's an extrait. It'll last 12 hours easy

Niche fragrance reviews are pretty much useless, because unlike most designer fragrances they are not meant to be the biggest crowd pleasers.
Most designer fragrances try to appeal to as many people as possible and make revenue though a lot of units sold, while niche fragrances offer something more unique that often might even be polarising.
Like, I absolutely love Layton, but I've tested other hyped niche fragrances like Kilian's angels share that I had to wash off because I couldn't stand them, but that's ok. Other people love it, but it's just not for me.
Or Aventus, it's not bad, but I would never spend more than 80€ for it while other people absolutely love it.

However, every time I wear this perfume, I'm almost sure to get compliments: "you smell so good!" is the compliment I hear most often. Or again: “The perfume suits you so well. You chose your perfume well!”.
And another day, while I'm getting into a friend's car to drop me off at the airport: "You smell so good! What's your perfume?". Of course I never answered him.
The latest, as I approached the hotel counter, to indicate my room number before being able to have breakfast: “Sir! You smell so good!”.
At these words, I said to myself that this perfume was truly incredible! Too many compliments ! Really early! Sometimes it makes me uncomfortable to tell you everything.
My wife also loves that I wear this perfume.
I note that LAYTON is not the best perfume in my collection. But it is without a doubt the one that people love the most...
I have to give it a 9/10.

Man, I could not disagree more. Now full disclosure I haven’t owned Layton since 2020 but I went through two bottles between 2018-20 20 and anywhere I went I was complemented.

I agree 💯 initial spray I was like this smells like Vicks 😬 but I kept using it because everyone said it’s the best fragrance and compliment magnet, but I couldn’t get over that menthol. Over time it did grow on me, but only in the dry down.
If you are Latino and are thinking of getting Layton then just imagine Vicks with some vanilla and a hint of green apple in the opening. That’s basically what Layton smells to me.
Very, very accurate! The dry down is very good, I agree. But you have to be patient. And menthol is still detected for some but honestly I spray it around the house sometimes
menthol ? what are u talking about ? did you get the old batch ? it was reformulated almost 3 years ago and menthol note was removed, so the only case is that you got old maybe so old one and maybe it’s deteriorated bottle ... mine is insanely pleasing no menthol the new batch is great and if your issue with the menthol there is none...
Disagree. Only cause I've smelt multiple Laytons. Me and my whole circle smell Menthol. I think it's just how our nose adapted in texas or something. CANT EXPLAIN. But I've had serious bad reactions from LAYTON.

Brother i own 60 colognes right now, and in my lifetime, let’s say owned another 30. Layton is the most complemented cologne that I’ve ever had with the exception of when I first started wearing Aventis in 2015 or maybe 1995 drakkar noir

That's weird, did you get a bad batch? Menthol was the last thing I would ever think it smells like. It's still a beast. I am happy to have it in my collection. I just picked up Carlisle which is another beast mode. I only buy from Nordstrom or straight from the house itself.
Initially, that's what I thought. But with the overwhelming amount of comments agreeing here and fragrantica. And me having the sales lady at dillards agree. I think it's just the way some of our noses are. Very unfortunate. I like the smell personally. I got used to it. But circle still hates it

Bro how old is your bottle? The newer batches don’t have that menthol smell, its just a nice spicy apple vanilla scent with nothing obnoxious. This is also one of those scents that the longer it sits the stronger it gets. Sucks you got negative feedback. You should check out Percival. That one gets compared to Fierce a lot but it’s SO much better and I think it would totally suit you bro.

Ok so Layton, my first impression was fresh sweet spicy forsure.
But after I let it sit for a month my Layton “macerated” it does not smell the same.
The apple note is juicy the pepper compliments and balances the sweetness I really love my layton and I do t get Vicks ? Mine is a 78% formula

I like Layton. It's a very approachable niche fragrance and it still veers along the side of designer. I wouldn't rate it HIGHLY i.e. like an Aventus or Silver Mountain Water, but it's solid as an easy wear for jeans and t-shirt in the fall/winter/early spring IMO due to it's woody spicy notes in it. I've layered it with YSL Tuxedo and got great results from it.
Man, Silver Mountain water is something I keep hearing. I might have to pick up a bottle. And yeah, personally, I like layton. But that menthol note haunts me a bit, and I just don't get compliments like my others.
For me, I got a 20 ml decant to try.
I could not bear the smell from the very first day, always gives me almost headache. Never found any vicks/menthol smell but just cant bear this sharp smell around my neck. So, nowadays I just spray it on my wrists.

Honestly I’ve had opposite experience with Layton. Alot of fellas do wear this and say it’s just meh. But anytime I’m around a woman they love Layton. Some fragrances are more so geared towards the feminine nose. I will agree with you on a few points. Don’t blind buy any fragrance, does have slight menthol smell but I personally get more apple than menthol. Also the dry down on Layton is amazing. It’s my personal favorite fragrance. It last on me the next morning whenever I spray it in the evening. The most key part about wearing a fragrance and to have it last. Which is the most important thing to do when wearing a fragrance. That is to…. WASH 🧼 🚿 YO ASS!!!
And I also agree. It's probably 50/50 with someone smelling strong menthol. I tried it today, and my wife was horrified again. Skin chemistry is important. DO NOT BLIND BUY even if the hype is unbelievably good. Love the comment 👌
You may have gotten the same problem that i had. First 15 sprays were 95% menthol shower gel scent. It was bad. I thought i had a copy, so i brought it to a PDM dealer where i compared it with one of their bottles. BIG difference! My bottle smelled Nothing like Layton should. I brought a test strip home that was sprayed with the store tester and one with my Layton on it (sprayed at the same time, same number of sprays). 4 days later i could still with 100% accuracy blind pick my Layton due to it's menthol dominant smell. So i brought it to a genuine PDM expert. At this point i had sprayed it about 15-20 times for testing and stuff. The scent had changed Completely. I couldn't differentiate between my bottle and any other bottle. And now, my bottle smells Gorgeous. As Layton should smell. I don't know for sure why or how, but my best guess is that the "juice" had separated or something. The batch was made in mid August, a 2023 bottle, so it isn't old and hasn't been sitting on a shelf for years. Everybody loves the way it smells on me now, and i get 8-10 hours of longevity with good projection. My only complaint is that the first 15-20 sprays didn't smell right (including other peoples opinion). Layton is a Clear 10/10 fragrance, but like Any fragrance, there is no such thing as "blind buy safe". Just because 90% of the world loves something (like for example Layton) doesn't mean you'll like it too. Try before you buy. ALWAYS!
Interesting. I've gone through 3/4s of the bottle already just testing on people. Maybe I'll shake it a bit. It honestly smells good from far away. But up close that menthol really gets detected.
@JT-Wins Then it's probably not the same problem as I had. After ¾ of the bottle, it would either become "normal" or the menthol part would be used up if it wasn't mixed up by that point. Does your bottle contain "BHT" as an ingredient? Mine does, but it doesn't show up on PDM's website.

I don’t consider any fragrance a safe blind buy because you need to see how it works with your natural body oils but Layton has been great with me it smells just sweet enough and get nothing but compliments male and female especially females
I would agree. But even on a fragrance paper when I sprayed it. We all detected a dominant menthol like smell. But yeah nothing really is a safe blind buy. Even hours after when they smelt it.

Great video. Finally an HONEST REVIEW. I blind bought and I dont care about price/money. Im trying out new colognes because mine has been reformulated which I got stopped left and right wearing it for 15+ years ...sad. But this is becoming a fun but expensive hobby ( in the past 3 weeks) . Ill tell you a story. So I got layton finally. I needed a "beast mode" because nothing has been lasting on me/my skin. around 730am I spray it on....I work in an office full of women/nurses. All the women were like Damn you smell good (first 2 hours)
Bro NOBODY NOT A SINGLE REVIEWER warned me about how it smells after the 3 hour mark..... So it gets to 12 noon-1pm ( 5-6 hour mark). One nurse came to my office saying my office smells like old musk/aftershave her grand dad would wear. another one said it smells like pungent woods/ when she came near me. I said damn thats sad. So that beautiful scent at 2-3 hours Drys down to a MUSKY after shave. If you are going out for a few hours 2-3 hours MAX to the mall running errands. thats fine. anything past that......Its a pungent musk. It lasts. but its a pungent musk dry down. TRUST ME. As far as the menthol vicks. I can see that. I just subscribed to your channel looking forward to hearing your opinions FIRST.

To be fair, every fragrance is subjective. However, my blind buy experience is completely different. I wear it when I go out to bars and clubs. EVERY time I wear it, I get compliments from women. Every time. The projection and the longevity is out of this world. I go home, go to bed, wake up and the fragrance is still on me and projecting. The only other fragrance that I get similar compliments with is Arabian Oud's Tarteel Silver.
My Arabian ouds are my most complimented, and I'm not too much fan of them. I wish I had that experience. I sprayed layton on my brother today, and it wore off after 4 hours from his Hoodie. Some clothes it stays forever on and some it doesn't. I liked the scent. But I have yet to get a compliment, and the bottle is close to being over the halfway mark. Personally like the scent and so does he.
@@JT-Wins Well, I don't know if this is a hack, but I take olive oil and coconut oil, mix them together in a container and apply to my entire body. I think the fragrance last longer with natural oils instead of lotion plus coconut oil smells nice anyway. On my clothes, most of my niche fragrances stay on for multiple washings. Lol!

I (thankfully) got a sample of Layton and did expect it to be at least reasonably oké (actually, I expected it to be phenomenal) with respect to positive feedback.
However, I put it on while clubbing and, although known for smelling good, I immediately noticed rather disappointing (non-verbal) feedback. 🤨
Just concluded it doesn't work on my skin, but apparently I'm not the only one who fell for these false promises.. 🤔
Not even just skin! On clothes, it's very menthol like, and your skin needs to make it fade if not... then it ends up being the same. All the hype around it made me get it. That's why I put this to warn people.
Nice content Man! I like Layton but i have received awesome feedback from people around me. As soon as i got it , there was no longevity. After letting this to age for months, the longevity was severely increased. Of course no fragrance is worth blind buy. Try to find latest batches sample and if you like it, then commit to a full bottle.

I smelt Layton tester in person, immediately smelt Vicks for atleast 30 mins. The dry down is absolutely amazing. So I figured I’d just buy a clone (Amber Oud Exclusif Bleu). Have done my research and everyone has said this is a really good Layton clone for a third of the price, got it and its very similar even with the Vicks smell and everything lol. Right now i’m really trying to like the fragrance through the menthol smell. 😅
To me it seems like detour noir avoids the strong menthol like smell. It also lasts and projects more than Layton and much cheaper that amber oud exclusif

Not remotely. I 100% get menthol. Look up the fragrantica reviews and search menthol, search vicks. You'll see the comments. It's 100% vicks. And i've smelled it in Nordtroms from the drawer. They hid them cause the get. stolen and the agent went and unlocked the draw for me to test. It's straight menthol.

I did have a heck of a lot of compliments with RESALA by Arabian oud. Definitely not something I'd imagine. It comes off so much different than what I still think of it. Not to mention I had sprayed it like 8-10 hours before the compliment

I think is overrated but is a good fragrance, nothing super special but something safe and nice to wear and have in the shelf for the collection. In my personal Carlislie and Herod are the best in PDM house.

yeah...no its 250 on the Parfums de marly website for my small bottle. It last like 6-8 hours but it doesnt project 6-8 hours. I combine the meanings because lets be honest we all want to project. I wouldnt post this if i knew it was a knock off. I got it from Dillards.

Designer is the best way to go always IF you are trying to crowd please. I would say the for INTIMATE/DATE YSL LHOMME/la Nuit, Spicebomb Extreme, Dolce Gabbana the One, For FRESH Prada Lhomme, Bleu de Chanel , YSL EDP.
10 sprays from Layton? Are you crazy? 😂 3-4 sprays project all day long. I think sometimes less is more. Your item is probably fake if you feel you need 10 sprays. If it's original, I think you overspray it and this is annoying and ridiculous for everybody.

So many butthurt niche snobs in the comments, chill. Y'all act as if you got stocks in PDM or something. Everybody have different skin chemistry and if Layton smells like menthol to him, then it is what it is. As far as longevity, for me it lasts over 12 hours but again, its a skin chemistry thing. Also, Layton was reformulated not so long ago, and my bottle is prior to the reformulation, so dont know, maybe post reformulation is trash. Maybe post reformulation also smells like menthol. Most of you know Layton before it got reformulated, so who knows.
Longevity is better in cold! So, it's not as bad as I initially thought. But bro, that's what I'm saying. I'm over here getting death threats and YT strikes.😂

Thats not correct, actually most reviewers are not paid by the manufacturer. Out of the thousands of reviewers on TH-cam maybe a handful of them are getting paid directly from the manufacturer. As an example....Jeremy Fragrance is one of biggest most popular fragrance review pages on TH-cam and he doesn't get a cent from fragrance houses and even states that in his videos. So if he's not getting paid by the designer I doubt many others are. They may get a free bottle sent to them once in a while to review but the vast majority even have to buy the juice with their own money to review it.

Boring scent imo, niche for youngsters who are looking for a nightlife scent and just want to smell mass appealing. Not interesting enough for trained noses, although it can be a gateway drug in the beginning of the fragrance journey (as it was for me).
i can say as a beginner the way peoples noses can hit or miss the menthol smell...The fragrance is INTERESTING. I hear its mass appealing. But have yet to see or experience that in real time. Could be where im at though

I Didnt get a bad bottle. Some people just get a strong menthol smell...honestly i think it depends where your from and how your nose adapts. Im glad this video made you not blind buy though...it could be terrible or it could be good like people say but atleast you dont blow 200 bucks..
