Gret tips. I have struggled with the removal of all the pauses. I even had a programmer back in 2011 make a program to automatically remove them, unsuccessfully. Those are the bane of my existence. Lately, I just make all of the b-roll and just narrate over that b-roll and this seems to be more engaging for my style of video (tutorials of compley electronics and machinery).

It took me awhile to naturally realize this because I used to do complete editing and it took SO LONG. Now I add all my A-Roll, Color Grade, Make Cute of Unneccessary Footage and Mistakes, Add in Self-Filmed/Photographed Assets/CC/etc, Add in Found/Created Assets (as this is a really distracting process since it involved browsing), Add Sound Effects, Add Music, then I publish privately and work on all of my About This Video, Tags, etc, then publish. That's what works best for me.

But when I do need to watch through the video for a bird's eye view of the narrative, I do this thing of watching the video in double the speed! On Final Cut, you can play the video then press "L", and press 2-3 times to make it even faster.

I feel like I've only just started being a year in now and that last point is a hugely helpful piece of advice. Granted they all are, but the end bit of not trying to edit from start to finish. I've went back on and completely moved on from certain video ideas purely because I couldn't move past the intro sequence that I really enjoyed. I didn't know how to follow it up and progress the narrative I wanted to convey. If I had layed out a frame work then after adding all the bells and whistles i think things would have run much smoother. Thats why i've seemingly stuck to shorts for the longest time because they're just that. Short. Thanks for the advice and for the wonderful video!

Being a 'Productivity TH-camr' myself, I agree with all points mentioned from both a 'productivity' lens, AND 'youtuber' lens.
Just that I don't quite promote the use of multiple screens at the desk set-up. Somehow the minimalist in me has figured out a way to focus on just my 13' MacBook Air screen and finish off all tasks with breaks. Switching between screens/folders has its cost IMO.

The MX master is even better than described, because it is a gestures mouse, so each button, when combined with a gesture (push the button, then move the mouse left, right, up or down) will each do a different thing. I have the MX MasterS2 and have bound all of my most common actions to it...it has become an extension of my brain. Like touchtyping with the mouse...I don't even now anymore what the difference buttons do...my brain thinks what it wants to do, and my hand does whatever it needs to do with the mouse to make the action happen without my conscious engagement...such a great mouse! It is like a gaming mouse for productivity.

I find that going through the edits wearing different hats. like first is the storytelling hat, then the effects hat, color hat and so on helps me alot

great tips, you nailed it. Just in time I want to improve my video editing workflow. By the way, what are computer specs you can recommend to a beginner video editor? thanks

I always do passes through video editing. First pass is cutting up footage and getting everything organized, second pass is for ideas I know I want to implement/text graphics, final pass is making sure everything flows and tweaking anything I spot that's wrong as well as adding any new ideas I come up with.

Another cool tip is to memorize the shortcut keys, it saves a ton of time in the long run

Great tips, I think #5 and #6 will be most useful for me. I watch and rewatch to make sure the dialog matches perfectly with the scene, making tiny little adjustments and then I try and get everything done at once and then move on to the next scene, which in the end ends up being wasted on the final watch through, I make a bunch of tiny adjustments that I then have to rework everything again. Next thing I know I've been there for 10 hours and only really finished 7 minutes of video 🤣 I will try and change the way I do things... it's going to be hard though. Thanks for the tips!

not gonna lie 5 and 6 hit hard... I recently started working on a video thats in a completly new style compared to what I usually did and it felt completly painful seeing very little progress, and I ended up with different system- I just put all the creative ideas in first, without being bothered by the details like scale, position, movements etc. and it just feels much better to see more being done in 1 sitting (not to mention for me looking up for things to put in said video seems to be the hardest part, so its better for my mental too)

Lots of great tips! Bought as soon as you talked about the features. Used to have an older mouse that had programable buttons, but the software dropped with a recent release. Glad this one is available now!

Genuinely a great video, I’m actually going to make a list based on this. I’ve had an ergonomic mouse for the longest time and never thought to use the hot key function/ button mapping. Loads of other cool tips too. Thank you for making an innovative video that doesn’t just reiterate what a lot of other videos say
