  • In order to guarantee the highest quality, Schmincke use special recipes and processes which avoid the use of machinery during the manufacture of their Soft Pastels. This video takes a behind-the-scenes look at these processes. You can view the entire colour range using the link below:

    When you see videos like this it really does make you appreciate why pastels can be so expensive.

    This brand is my favorite. VERY soft. Yet don't break like you'd think they would. They go on like silk and WOW is the result. They are a dream to work with.

      I already have 54 since I discovered them and became addicted few months ago at the first time using them. These pastels and me are inseparable 😅. I am growing with them as I am a beginner and they helped me to pass the difficult step to dare pastel painting. I also have several horodam gouache especially for some reds and for the titanium gold ocre which is my favourite yellow ocre. About gouache, it is also interesting to but ShinHan designer at Jackson 's art .

    I purchased some recently to see what they are like and yes I am very impressed. You can tell the quality just by its weight in your hand and as in the video, the pigment is transferred to your fingers at the lightest touch. They are worth buying. I wouldn't however want the job of labelling them all in the factory!

    I stumbled upon these pastels in Paris years ago and have seen NOTHING like them anywhere else. If I didn't have my French and German materials I'd be lost. They are truly luxury items. xo

    I have a question concerning the letters B, D, H, M, O on the labels:) They must be the first letters of some words - but what are they? B - Black? D - Dark? And then?..
    I think this info could ease remembering the system:)
    Another question is more difficult. I see that Schmicke pastels are often multi-pigmented. And what especially surprising, when you study the pigments in the variations of the same color, there can occur different pigments. For example, Krapprosa 047 in H variant contains only PV19, in D variant it has also PR122 (another Quinacridone) and PR146 (Naphtol). Violet Tief 059 has in D variant four pigments (PB29, PV23, PV19, PB15), in H variant - PB29, PV15, PR146, M is just PV15 and O is PV15 + PW6. So, am I right that "adding white" is not a literary admixing of white? My first idea is that possibly some pigments (and paints) while mixed with white not only get paler but change their color tone. May be some mineral pigments can play as "white without white" (as Ultramarine Violet). So, what is the idea of the "color" from this point of view? There obviously must be some check gauge for each...

      You'll got more chance to sell your artwork at a good price if you have the best quality of supplies first because it helps to make a good job. I am poor and bought my Schmincke extra-soft pastels little by little, now I have 54 sticks and before having all these, I already sold two boards. So I don't regret. But I have to say that I don't eat meat, that's save some money, another advantage to be vegetarian.

    Very good video. It would have been good to have you acknowledge Pia with a 'good morning' or 'good afternoon' comment and let her answer her 'good morning'. She is a skilled worker and performs her job with great accuracy. She is not a machine.

    Can Pastels be used with or as Watercolor, or in conjunction with the watercolor painting process?

    • @JacksonsArtSupplies
      @JacksonsArtSupplies  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment - it isn't uncommon for artists to use pastels with watercolour paintings. Sometimes a painting can lack a bit of contrast and a useful way to add more contrast and texture is to outline some elements with pastels. Or, if you're looking for something with a similar process of application to pastels, you could try Watercolour Sticks - www.jacksonsart.com/colour/watercolour/watercolour-paint-sticks

      Yes you can actually use pastels with water. There are videos showing it. Artists also use alcohol with pastels. A big part of the fun involved with art is experimenting and seeing what you like most!

      Do you have a recipe Yana that I can try?

    • @yanal1022
      @yanal1022 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some gum powder.
      Moisten it with some alcohol
      Then add distilled water.
      Leave it for 2 hours? Depends on the gum. - i use gum arabic-
      Ratio is about 20:1 (water to gum)
      Then you cn use pure pigments such as iron oxides. Or mix 2 parts whiting chalk and 1 part pigment.
