This video is gold. The tea breaks, water breaks and leaving the room without cutting is whole another level. Instead of watching a video, it feels like being sit there with you and also see how a person would act normally. Experiment more with this, looks lit.

@ShawXYZ Happiness is an abstract concept driven by emotion/passion which makes it so hard to grasp long term. On the other you can actively seek to be grateful, find excitement in little things and cherish your social circle. These are actionable steps towards more contentment. It's human's nature to always want more and more. I'll say it for the hundredth time, the things you preach in this video, other videos, and overall the "reject modernity" mindset in self improvement, along with the Greek philosophy, make my faith (in my religion) even stronger. Presence, gratitude, kindness, putting people B4 yourself, appreciating the little things, getting more knowledgeable, taking care of your health, patience, consistency, etc... It's like our modern days and the "modern" way of thinking with modern capitalist liberal society are like the muddy swamps from which the malaria carrying mosquitoes (aka depression) become wild spread and rapidly growing.

    Presence
    gratitude (positive thinking)
    social connection (kindness)
    1. Even if you think of something that makes you happy, being present makes you happier (flow state)
    How to achieve it:
Make activities that get you into flow states
    MEDITATE CONSISTENTLY
How to understand you have made significant progress:
You look at your thoughts from the outside (meta-thinking)
    2. Don't be grateful only for good things that happened to you, BE GRATEFUL FOR SOMETHING THAT ACTUALLY HURT YOU (find something positive in it) ex.: I'm grateful for thinking I'm a loser because that gives me the power to not be one anymore, there are bigger losers than me that don't even get this thought
After having a thought and realizing you had it, think about how to be grateful for it
Random acts of kindness: Spending money on someone else is more rewarding than spending them on yourself (spending less money on more people is better than spending a lot of money on one)
    Eating healthy
Not being sleep deprived (you probably are)
    3. Have many and good friends, (gf), have good relationships with random strangers in your area, nobody acknowledges your existence (big cities),
It's not normal to not know if member of other tribe is friend or foe, they are all neutral
    Go outside more (exercise outside)
Say good morning to random person
    Nature
    Sunlight
    Walking
deep breaths (especially with long exhale)
    just go outside

You will never achieve happiness until you stop chasing it 🤲🏽❤️💯

  • @gatheringgrit
    @gatheringgrit 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Two most important things when it comes to happiness (in my opinion):
    1. Stop seeking that completely carefree, worry free type of happiness you experienced in childhood. When you're an adult it's harder to get there and even if you do, it will cost you.
    2. Your mind defines what happiness even is for you. If you have control over your mind you can change the definition.
Think for yourself. But most importantly, set rules for yourself as well.

Here's some advice! I recently came out of a 5 year relationship with bad depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts but after that. I went through a whole self discovery and am never happy. I can't even imagine or force myself to be mad, anxious, worried, etc.
Whenever you catch your negative thoughts, write it down. Now slowly work through the thought and figure out why you feel that way, now figure out where this self hating habit came from. Childhood? Traumatic event? Slowly work through your subconscious and it's sort of a mental "cleaning". The more you spend with yourself and clean, the better you'll feel. Soon you'll wake and realize life is beautiful and self love is addicting. Best wishes to everyone because I know it's a rough journey

  • @EnciseGaming

I remembered the authentic hadith of the Prohpet Muhammed ﷺ when he said:
"How amazing is the affair of the believer, for all his affair is good for him, and this is not for anyone but the believer.
If good befalls him, he is grateful, and it is good for him, and if adversity befalls him, he is patient, and it is good for him"
If you believe in God you can take gratitude to the next level
Because you will be grateful to the all-knowing all-wise God for everything he puts you through
knowing undoubtfully it's good for you in the end if you're grateful, not just being grateful for the act itself but for the reason behind it
God clearly stated in the Quran "if you are grateful, I will surely give you more" Ibrahim 14:7
So in my opinion gratitude is definitely powerful, but without God, you're missing a lot.

      Here's another good one:
It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:
"The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'The strong believer is better and more beloved to Allah than the weak believer, although both are good. Strive for that which will benefit you, seek the help of Allah, and do not feel helpless. If anything befalls you, do not say, "if only I had done such and such" rather say "Qaddara Allahu wa ma sha'a fa'ala (Allah has decreed and whatever he wills, He does)." For (saying) 'If' opens (the door) to the deeds of Satan.'"

Couldnt have said it better. We arent perfect, no philospher or any scientist is even close. What we believe now will be radically different in 200 years. We put so much stock on something so temporary and changing and get unnecessarily hurt. The more i follow self improvement it just points me back to Islam subhanAllah. There are elements of truth in everything, but nothing encapsulates it like Islam. InshAllah hamza reverts and in ramadan we remove ourself from all this BS and come back to what matters.

Been meditating for around 5 years and I'm still not at that point where no thoughts enter the practice. That's not to dissuade anyone from the practice of meditation - meditation is quite a beast of an activity, and something that you get better with over time (long-term gratification versus short-term gratification). One thing that certainly helps, is to reframe meditation from a no-thoughts process to a process in which you focus solely on your breath. That way you're at least thinking of something that is conducive to the practice at large. It's a good first step in getting to that point where "you master" your meditation practice. If anyone's curious, I do have a short video concerning meditation on my channel. Cheers :)

    You know what Hamza ?
I have been doing this my whole life, but I never answered to it.
Like, I have always been able to identify my own thinking, meta-think of my thinking bullshit.
But I never really like.. Joked about it. I was just notifying stuff, and it made me more depressed, and more anxious. "Oh well, why am I sad, I shouldn't be sad, I have a great family, I have a roof above my head and food in my plate, why the fuck am I sad, that makes me so sad !", and here goes the hell-loop all the way down to hell.
And recently, I have been following your channel, getting into self improvement etc, and honestly, meditation (or whatever placebo effect out there) is really kicking in. I'm legit laughing IRL because I catch myself going wild, and I'm like "Yo bro, you stupid mate ?" with a weird ass accent and that's so fucking great to shift instantly my mood.
Great advice for those who can't (probably most) really think about their thoughts from the get go, trust me, that's really a thing to see.
Just know one thing I got problems with.
Thinking too much this way makes you analyze *A LOT*. And if you are good at it (One friend is especially great at this), everything can be an act if you want. Your whole personnality can be whatever you want just because you can stop your thoughts and infuse whatever the fuck you want (works great for auto-convincing btw). That could lead to feeling like you're not your "true self".
Always remember that your "true self" is whatever you want it to be. Controlling your impulses and bad feelings ISN'T reprehensible. It doesn't make you less you. It makes you a better you. And isn't it the point of all of this ?

8:50 - thinking is like dreaming. You dream but you don't know you're dreaming. That is your reality. You think, but you don't know you're thinking.
    Meditation is like lucid dreaming.
When you lucid dream, you become aware that you are in a dream.
When you meditate (and in other moments too, as a consequence of daily meditation) you think, and you become aware that you are in a thought.

I’ve been doing self growth for a while but idk how to turn it into interesting content. I want to motivate people but I also hate when people watch my videos. I hate all the attention but I need money so i gotta figure out a long term attainable plan. I can be consistent but I need a thought out plan. I always run out of video ideas and I don’t wanna show my personal life

The number one mistake i see is people thinking they would be happier if they themselves had materialistic things but the true thing thta makes you happy is working for something outside yourself everything always goes about you, you, you but true happiness comes from working for your community, your friends, your family, anything other than yourself and no one wants to hear that

The reason people chase happiness is they wamt to alter their state of mind for example “im feel sad and lazy today if i smoke weed and binge snacks (alter my mind state) i will feel better” when that happens thats temporary happiness and will leave your future self set up in a worse position.

You're super right about the small knit community feeling. I moved from a large city to a small town and literally everyone walking past says hi and smiles. I was actually shocked the first time it happened and I was boasting about it to my family.

I've heard Jordan Peterson argue that the most reliable source of positive emotion (cause if you think about it you don't just want specifically "happiness", feelings like hope and love are desirable too) is from seeing your progress towards a valued goal. So the best strategy for long term positive emotion is to A set a truly valuable goal, which would be the best for you now, you later and humanity in general, and then B pursue that to the very best of your ability.

I love Naval Ravikant's take that happiness is a choice, and one that you can work on. Making the choice to write down what I'm grateful for in my journal, has definitely made me a happier person. Society's definition of happiness where you goto college, get a day job, then go into debt to buy a car/house has made me miserable.

This is completely true, from what I've learned over my short life people don't really care about being happy, what they really want is to not be unhappy and the only way to really do that is by carrying some responsibility and moving towards a goal. And THE most effective goal you can give yourself is something that you know is unattainable, so you can always move towards that goal, and you know what... that's what worshiping GOD is all about, you place the divine as your ultimate value so you can always try and become something indescribably perfect even though it's impossible and yet...you are the image of God, it is your responsibility to act like one.

This concept is called Hedonic adaptation. We stabilize our baseline happiness levels to whatever our circumstance changes to and then we're unhappy again. It's essentially a treadmill that keeps going, chasing something unattainable.

I think limiting stimulation will make you happier. Not just junk food, video, and the big stimulations. But even limiting small stuff like how much you expose yourself to stimulating ads, heavily edited videos, etc. We don't realize how many things stimulate us, but even limiting everything stimulating big or small will make you more present.

I’m never happy. I’m either depressed or „not that sad”, and when I do, its when I’m super focues on extremly difficult goals. Once I acheive them, despite everybody mirin, I get extremly depressed again. I remember how in the last year of high school I decided to get insane scores in final exams. While I was on the grind, I felt okay. When resaults came in, in maths I scored higher than 99.8% of all students, and got a perfect score in physics, which only like 0.1% of students managed to achive. I was even happy for a few days, but soon after I fell into the worst depression in my life and didn,t even go to uni that year
