These are great templates. A wonderful way to use up those scraps of batting I have. If you fold over the edges in a counter-clockwise directions it makes the sewing easier as you are not running up against the open edge of the miter.
Received my templates yesterday. Today my sewing room is full of hexis. Even my granddaughter is joining in and we have two sewing machines humming. We are making an eye spy quilt. This will be a great stash buster.
I just bought this quilt as you go hexagon template. I love it. I cut out some strips of fabric large enough for the big template and the strips the size for the inner batting and top fabric. I already had the magic pins and away I went. It's such good fun and relaxing into the bargain. I am going to join them all together with some of the invisible thread with a small zig zag on the machine. Hey presto, hexies in a hurry!!! Thank you Nicola, I'm one of your Australian customers.
Thank you for this great tutorial! I just bought the Magic pins because of you! I love them!!! I noticed that it was like a Fun & Done method. I don't have those templates, so I used my hexagon ruler and cut 6.5 inch hexagon for the back, and a 4.5 inch hexagon for the front. I then marked a one inch line on all 6 sides on the back on the larger hexagon. I then centered the batting, and the smaller hexagon . Pinned (with the Magic pins), pressed, and am ready to either hand stitch, or machine stitch.
Love this. Saw it on Missouri Quilt Tutorial and ordered the templates. Can hardly wait for them to arrive. You did a great job teaching this!! I'm in north Eastern Pennsylvania USA.🤗
I made a tree skirt for my Christmas tree using Nicola's technique. I sewed mine all by hand. It takes longer but the result is so much nicer. I used one Christmas charm pack and a few more from my stash and about a yard of green and red background fabric. I made the background hexies either green or red and arranged them so it is reversible with a green/red pattern on the back. To make the skirt I left one seam of the circle open to put it around the trunk of the tree. It is very unique. Love this technique! Thank you, Nickola.
I always skip the pins... i use the purple Elmer's glue stick. Holds great, no pin holes in your fabric, very little (if any) shifting and it comes out on the wash.
I've ordered my templates, saw MSQC tutorial and your live show with them this last week. Wow. Already got these pins which I prefer to glass head ones as finer- and iron proof is a bonus then. Can't wait to start some Hexies
Hi Nicola, I received my template from you two days ago. You wrote me a nice note saying happy sewing. I’ve made three hexies and I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, all puckered. I’ve just stuck it in a cupboard for now. Will watch lots of videos.
Great tutorial. ❤ Love using these templates. I hand sew mine. I’ve also found that I can use all my bamboo and cotton batting scrap strips, as even if they are too narrow, they can be sewn together using the zigzag stitch method and used effectively. The soft batting gives a nice drape and is great for QAYG as it is not too stiff.
I've chosen to hand sew mine, takes me less than 8 minutes per hexi (and I'm not fast, but I am particular). They are using up scraps of fabric and batting (wadding) I had laying around. Gives me something to do while I "watch" tv.
I purchased the template from MSQC and received it today. Forgot to order the pins! Thanks for letting us benefit from the partnership. I hope that you will benefit as well. Happy Christmas. ~M

I ordered your template from Missouri Star when it was the Daily Deal and it arrive today! I'll be trying it out tomorrow. I think it would make really cute coasters to put drinks on to protect wood tables. I may need to get some of those Magic Pins as well!

If you fold the seams and turn it clockwise as you are folding them, then your corners will be going in the direction that you are sewing and you won't have to hold each corner down as you go around sewing it. 🤓 I think it makes it just a little bit easier to sew the hexagons.
Hi Nicola! Thank you for the lovely tutorial & the hexi template as well! I just ordered my set after watching Jenny Doan & her girls demo it, & I just love the possibilities! I've looked through your tutorials and didn't see any for the other qayg templates you have available (except for the diamond ). Is it possible that you might add a tutorial on those at some point as well? Also, I really want to get the other shape set, but I am wondering if the templates use yardage or precuts? And if they do use precuts, how many can you get on one? I absolutely love your templates, they are just brilliant! Ooohhh the design possibilities! One other question ~ I noticed that Jenny is offering your templates in neon, and yours are clear ~ can we in America order the clear style from you? Thank you so much, once again, I am simply in love!
Hi Carol, thanks so much, I'm glad I have got your creative juices going, you are right the possibilities are endless, I'm still coming up with new ideas for templates I have had for years now!! Regarding my clear templates, yes you may buy the clear ones from me that Missouri Star Quilt Co aren't stocking but the ones that they are selling I'm afraid that I can't provide those to the USA, but Jenny's templates are just the same apart from the colour. As you can imagine I am horrendously busy at the moment as I am a one woman business and I do intend doing more videos, but the technique of the QAYG is the same for all the templates. I hope that helps, Happy Sewing Nicola X
