  • The pursuit of happiness in the form of momentary pleasures and temporary sensory experiences is a recipe for a life of misery, depression, and lack of fulfillment. In this video, I'll tell you exactly why it's such a bad idea, and what to aim for instead.
    Think of contentment as a choice, a decision, an active effort, as opposed to a feeling. And in doing that you escape habitation, and you allow yourself to be in a place that is never the same for too long because you are consistently experiencing the positive and negative emotions of life. Also, don't confuse contentment with satisfaction. You can be content, yet not satisfied.
    The challenge with these discussions sometimes is to be sure that everyone is talking about the same definition of the words being discussed, such as happiness and contentment. A different definition can change the entire direction or stance of an argument or understanding.
    The ultimate underlying goal is not to be chasing anything as a way of escaping your current state. But rather to actively choose to seek the experience of a an alternative state if you choose to do so, independently of an expectation that it will serve as the antidote to your current state.
    I guess there is an element of enlightenment to what I am proposing or referring to with my definition and understanding, and experience, of contentment.
