I could really use one on reading water for steelhead. It would be extremely useful to be able to look at unfamiliar water and have a good idea where the fish are likely to sit.
I should be pretty dialed after I remove the plastic casing from my rod then. You forgot lunch, Gotta bring lunch that can double the amount of time you spend at the river!!!
Addicted Fishing taught me how to catch my first trout and salmon and now on the hunt for steelhead! all in 5 months! Thank you, from Vancouver Island!
The best winter steelhead tutorial I've seen. You brought steelhead, and salmon fishing into the 21st century, covered so much important stuff, and made it easily understandable. You're pretty good at this, Marlin! I hope to see more from you. Thanks and good wishes to you and yours.
Good to see Marlin doing a tutorial, think your hookup was definitely karma! So many things that seem simple but take years to pick up, always good for a refresh and to help new people out. I’ve yet to catch a winter, but for salmon if I’m keeping fish I like to have a way to carry the fish to make it more comfortable. Weather a simple rope/stringer or the ol addicted bag. Thanks for all the content and great products
All of your Okuma recommendations are spot on. I never deal with warranty issues. I just suck it up. I broke a few GSP Okuma rods my fault, so they just sat. Then a new Okuma X rod started losing the eyelets, so I contacted Okuma. Not only did they send me a new X rod but made me a great deal to fix the other two GSP rods I broke. Best company out there. Their no hassle warranty is true. Great recommendation Addicted Fishing.
I live in central WA, never have fished for steelhead before, going next week for my first try over by the Columbia River. Learned a lot off your videos
Thanks Marlin!! One bit of gear I've added to my arsenal is a Mustang MIT 100 life jacket, in camo of course. I do a lot of solo bank river fishing and get into some "sketchy" areas. This minor bit of safety kit should be worn by all of us for many reasons. You guys can easily partner with a supplier and promote more river safety. I grew up rafting many NW rivers and have so much respect for Mother Nature, especially after flipping and wrapping rafts. Stay safe and Tight Lines!
I already know a lot of these things but you taught me a lot and reminded me of things I already knew.. a refresher coarse in old reliable techniques and a ton of new stuff to use… the more you know the more dangerous you can be 😅.. thanks and keep going you guys are my favorite channel
If you only fish once a week, this is the stuff you need to learn to be successful if you don't have the time to put in best adx video in a longtime as far as how toos go
Great video Marlin. Clear, concise and helpful. Waders with zipper. Yes! My take key away, Toe warmers, Brilliant! I can't tell you how many times I have been in the water and convinced I have a leaky wader. Nope, just cold toes. See you on the water.
Thank you for covering the rod balance with the reel. So many people don’t do this. I’ve been saying this for years that it’s a forgotten fact. Used to be common knowledge
I am not a new angler by any means and have watched a ton of your videos and I love them! I have never realized how your floats have that side hole so if your tubing rips like I always seem to do for some reason the bobber does not fall off of your line! I will be ordering some of these to try out in Michigan waters. Great video and awesome second drift Marlin!
Great video Marlin! Im in California and mostly bass fish but think im going to give steelhead a try. I love that the box has everything you need to go and be successful. Thanks for the info.
Thanks Marlin for sharing this with us,you did a great job explaining everything👍I was about as surprised as you were when you hooked up 🤣 too bad it got off,oh well it was still an awesome video. Ok let's go ADX 🤘
Thank you, Marlin, for one of the BEST videos i have watched! I will be saving this one and watching it over and over again! Great tips on clothing and fishing gear! I am addicted! Hehe
Simms should sponsor you guys. If I'm honest, I've spent thousands on their shit and this channel turned me on to their products at the end of the day.
I’ve literally been doing this exact process. Hoping to go to Michigan and catch a first steelhead with my 17 yr old son. I’ve been researching for about 5 months hard. Stockpiling gear and bait/lures/knowledge. I follow the chain of researching broad then clicking every extra link and branching out. Locals help a ton. Joined hundreds of fb groups, insta accounts, email lists… research the best bait shops in the area. Do they have boat rentals, guides, etc. USGS helps a TON. Fishidy and Fishbrain. Have 20 plus fishing apps. I love this rabbit hole!
Always bring extra dry clothes...you never know if an accident like oops, I slipped in the water and now I'm freezing 🥶, my hubby and I got stuck in snow that turned to mud and both of us had to wash the mud off in the creek. I brought extra clothes for both of us as well as towels! He was extremely happy 😁.
Budget gear tip: merino wool socks at Costco are the best and the “weatherproof” brand come in a 6 pack for around 20 dollars. And Korker wader boots or nothing lol
@@AddictedFishing thank you. Living in the Spokane area do you have any general areas you would recommend for me when I make my yearly trip to ocean shore in August?
My son and I are the ones who chatted with you while you were filming this one… I got skunked in that spot, but I guess I should have tried an addicted worm!
I love It when a plan comes together. Be honest did you forget the Net cause you hadn't gotten to that Part yet that was the one piece of gear you did not cover. And have forgotten on many episode. See you soon at the Puyallup bash
Great advice. I do have a question regarding water flow. You and the Addicted crew have mentioned a river being blowout. When choosing a river, what's the maximum water flow you'll fish?
Speaking of waders: "Patagonia, absolutely don't buy those." Why? I was just about to pull the trigger on the Swiftcurrent Zip Fronts until I saw this video. I respect your opinion so please explain. Thanks!
Ive had a really good November on the Genny River in NY landing 5 on one day and others on different days because of your videos. I put on just a 8lb Fluor Leader and brought in a 26 1/2 beauty. A 30incher popped off. My net man failed lol. Is 15lb overkill? Obviously it just worked but, guys are always using from 6lb - 12lb around here.
@@AddictedFishing thanks, idk I haven't seen that Winter Steelhead box. I'll be buying that soon and wont forget to put the sticker on either lol Fish on!
I’m looking into buying waders right now. I was actually looking at the Patagonia waders, until you said don’t buy them. Why did you say not to buy them. Are they garbage?
I liked this one, Marlin! I find it interesting to see how other anglers prepare themselves for winter walk and wade trips. I follow my rituals in the a.m. during winter steel season. Also, thanks for using your platform to remind people to clean up after them selfs out there. You wouldn't believe the amount of garbage I pick up along the banks during salmon and steelhead season. Pack it in, pack it out people! AND don't be a surface $h#tter!!
Been waiting for something like this. The small stuff you need to know before hitting the river! Asked for this on the live feed and marlin read it and delivered! Let’s go! Thanks marlin
So who here can explain how the salmon river below the bridge became state property, rather than tribal land…? I used to fish down there every year till I took a break for 3 years then addicted posted there video made me go again & it’s like we can’t even go down there anymore due to state land I’m starting to wonder if it’s even true it was the only place we could fish without a guide 😭
I’m pretty sure the year they posted that video is when it closed below that bridge because I showed up to 100s of cars it was worse than the puyallup even now it’s like the puyallup because they limit our access on there river now 😤
They support & fund s lot of anti sportsman narrative, they do make good products, I just hate their agenda towards not supporting hatchery fish, among other crazy narratives they support. I personally refuse to give them a dollar.
@@AddictedFishing i got ya. I’d like to get US made simms waders, but it’s almost unreal here in Russia. All simms products we got here r not made in the States and really suck:( 1at trip and they leak 😢

I’m looking into buying waders right now. I was actually looking at the Patagonia waders, until you said don’t buy them. Why did you say not to buy them. Are they garbage?
What plier sheath, pliers, and lanyard do you use for your gerber scissors?
The sheath came with the pliers & both the sheath & lanyard are from Gerber
