My late husband was a log truck driver, I went with him much of the time so I do know what it's like. Kudos to all of you!!!! I myself worked as a weighmaster for Weyerhaeuser. Entering loads into the computer, and giving out weight tickets to the drivers, yes I even weighed my husband now and then....I remember one night a driver said "I have a load of Aspen" hardwoods pay more then pine, he didn't know I knew it was pine, so he didn't get away with his trying to trick me !

I loved hauling logs at 14 for my Uncle's logging business. I learned in a Pete 379 18sp Eaton.
I would just haul out of the woods to the road then the professional driver took over.
Later in my years I went through a fully paid by Fed Grant Credited College CDL Training Program. 10 months long, 6 days a week & 10hr days in a W900 18sp. attached to a 52-102 dry van. .
I graduated top of my Class then had a Stroke later on that put me out of the game. I had over million miles with zero citations, violations, warnings or shutdowns. Now I lost it all.
    Living off $2k a month on SSI/DI SUCKS! 🤟

What a great and informative video; well done. I’m at the tail end of a 37 year office career, but drove trucks in my teens and early 20s. I enjoyed those days a great deal and have a lot of respect for the profession. As much as I loved my career, there is something special about working outdoors and the freedom of being on the road.

I’m in Australia and just wondering why you don’t have folding trailers that we’ve had for years, the driver can load and unload the trailer themselves while staying in the truck with more safety and quicker loading, hooking up like that is old school.

They’re heavier, it’s just more to break, and with a tag axle and the wet kit for the hydraulics that’s just less wood you can haul so less money made.

Love to have seen 75K even once. But even trying my best and I'm no different than any other driver hauling logs. Best I ever saw was 47K.
But I'm from Happy Camp, California and we got shut down for 4 months for winter and if fire danger got out of hand we shut down too.
    Loved the job!

I haven't ever seen this type of full tree logging in Finland. I am not working in the logging industry, but I would argue that most if not all, are cut to length, thus the need for such trailers are not needed. Also we on earth do North American (Mexico, USA and Canada) still use those trucks from the 80s?

I started driving in 1996 not to many women out there then. I started with chips for a year then drove a hayrack for 5. Took me to prove I was good throwing wrappers over their loads an they couldn't throw em over mine lol
It was kinda hard being a woman, starting in a man's world (invading)when not many good women were driving an stayed with it❤️ good job, there's a few good ones out there now💖

Usual pay to my drivers is 33% of the gross to the truck. Some loads paid well, export, peelers, and saw logs. Pulp is very low pay. Last week, $45 a ton. We load to 88,000 lbs. on 6 axles and 105,500 lbs. on 9 axles.
