Those newer double DIN units are a nice upgrade to the stock ones that came with cassette player...also I downloaded the Porsche crest to my new unit for the start up home screen...😀
Hello, I enjoyed watching your TH-cam as a Boxster owner to the Porsche family. Congratulations! I too is a Boxster owner! I have a 1999 Boxster base 5 manual for a year now and loved it! Just want to share a short story. I'm a DIY guy as well, when I did some work to my Boxster, I disconnected the battery and didn't know the code to the stock radio since mine didn't come with a manual. Finally got the code and re activated the radio. Ironically, I preferred to listen to the exhaust more than the radio when doing some spirited driving. So now, I still have the original radio working but not in use as much. 😂
Hello! Thank you for watching and commenting. I definitely appreciate your love of the Boxster as well as the great exhaust sound. Sometimes it’s the little things that are most enjoyable! Enjoy your 1999 Boxster.
Thanks for the great Boxster content! My wife and I just got a 2000 Boxster S, and while the stereo sounds pretty good, it has the same sticky buttons. Time for an upgrade!
Thanks, you sold me…I was on the fence about doing this mod. I like the Ken wood…the Porsche mod is not worth it in my opinion. Thanks for taking the time…
@@AttainableLuxury-vv2xq Yes, i can understand that. But he, perhaps other parts of the interior ger sticky buttons too. Now you know what to do. Good luck, and have fun with your Porsche.
Thanks for sharing as I’ve been shopping for new radio. ‘01 base model, Orient red with grey interior. Your car looks very nice for the money you paid, good job!I see cup holders are gone, useless anyway, but did you have a custom piece made for the dash?
Sure thing! The radio is great. I had to remove the cup holders to make room for the radio, but as you said, the cup holders aren’t that useful. I got a kit from Crutchfield for the dash. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Great video. I was curious on installing this unit on a 2004 Boxster. Great sound quality. How much space is behind the unit when it is fully extended to fully compressed. Is there space to put things back there?
Thank you! It should work in a 2004, but be aware you may need a MOST fiber optic adapter. There’s no storage space behind the unit. Thanks for watching!
I think you made a good decision. The Porsche system is too expensive. I didn’t know that the Porsche system lacked wireless CarPlay. That makes the Kenwood an even better option. You should be able to add a Porsche crest “splash screen” to the Kenwood system. It won’t add any functionality to the system, but it will look cool when you turn your system on. I have an older version of your system in my Mercedes and I have enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the double DIN system in my Boxster is a bit older. The sound quality is great, but I miss having CarPlay.
Did you have enough room to install? The Kenwood DMX958XR is only 3-3/8 inch deep! If you have enough room, I will go with the DDX9907XR or the DNX997XR (navigation) for a full multimedia integration and sound quality! USB, and CDs can be burned to many of those formats (WAV, FLAC and others).

It’s been a great upgrade! I’m definitely going to check out that Porsche crest. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Sure thing! Yes, those sticky buttons are an issue. It’s definitely worth the upgrade. Enjoy your Boxster S 😎. Thanks for watching!
the Porsche PCCM looks FANTASTIC, but way over priced and the system was last used on a VW in 2017!
You absolutely made the right choice!
I think it was the right choice too. It really is an amazing system. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Your channel is so cool and you’re very different from the usual car TH-camr, subscribed!
Thank you so much! I appreciate the compliment and your support!

Sure thing! Glad it was helpful.
Did you have it installed? Id like to know how the back up camera wire was routed to the rear. 😊
New knobs are 30 bucks - China option instead of PCCM also worth a shot
Hi,
The sticky buttons can be cleaned with alcohol. So if you want to go back to the old original unit, you can.
That’s good to know, thanks! 👍🏼 But, I’m now spoiled with the new unit!

Was that plug n play or custom install?

There was room to install with a little extra room behind the unit. But definitely verify the measurements. Good luck!
Nice video, wonder if this would fit in a 98 Boxster?
Thank you! Yes, it should fit a 98 Boxster.
