Let the haters hate . You do super clean work and you’ve stayed out of the drama in the Cb world and continue to put out clean audio don’t worry about the haters and keep doing your thing and someday work on strykers so I can send you mine lol 😂
That’s a really nice rig. It would be a little confusing , for me, with all the select menu buttons. Nothing I couldn’t overcome but still a little daunting until I learned my way around. I guess at 68 I’m an old dog who needs to get in the 2024 way of thinking. Seems to be the way electronics are going. Keep up the good work. 73
Hey, Harold! I was born in the year of the double Nickel also. I like my older radios for the same reason, along with their reliability. I have a couple of President menu driven radios that were a little daunting at first. They are still easier operate than these newer rigs that have menu's requiring a computer to access all the programs. Relish the fact that we are now relics. Matt likes the older radios better also, but this is what technology has brought to us. Wavin' at ya from the Empire State. 👋 73. 😑🦗
I love my Anytone rigs, but I also love my Ranger stuff. I saw somewhere a guy had put a ranger n4 amp on the bottom of a stryker. If I could have a n4 amp on a 5555n2 that would replace my superstar in the big rig just for sideband stability alone 😁
I just got one the other day. I went into the service mode and cranked up the AM hi and lo modulation and left the SSB alone. Wasn’t impressed with the wattage but then I livestreamed it from my base as I drove around town and found i was impressed with the sound. I brought a couple of other radios with me to compare and still like the sound of this radio.
Fantastic work again Matt.. i have had good luck with the Anytone quad 6 in my mobile, and its great to see other options. Keep it coming man... we all love the work you do🫵👍
I have an anytone 6666 and it is a good 10 meter rig with CB capability. I mostly use it parked but no problem spinning the dial from 28.3 to 25.5 for some SSB. This radio kind of makes sense for more time on the road. A lot of people poke fun of the CH display but I kind of get it. You could just spin a span of channels for say 28.3 to 25.5 and use the clarifier to tune in between. I do this anyway this sorta anyway when mobile with the anytone quad 6. The button and knob format makes more sense while driving because you could learn it all and use by tactile feel w/o taking eyes of the road as opposed to parking and going into the menu format of my quad 6. Adding some two meter repeaters for RX only might be kind of nice to monitor some local repeaters. For the price I think it makes sense.
The desire to dabble is a delectable delight, when in the end it all comes out right! Poof, Pop, Bang or Wiz! Good golly Matt, that's the fun in the Biz! 😂 It's always fun to take a day, grab a radio and begin to play! 👍👍 😑🦗
That's actually exactly what I did 😂 just took some time at the end of the night and played around with the new rig..if it didn't work then oh well I would of still had fun messing with it..later 73 👋
Nice ... I hate it when it goes bang, hey Matt do you have any extra just the heat sinks without the amplifier? What power supply are you talking about maybe interested...
@@TheRadioGarage sounds good I have to wait awhile for now anyway my work ride died and and work isn’t going to fix it since the it is going to cost as much as the truck is worth
I am the same way. When I was a kid, my parents would get mad that I took my new toys apart on Christmas day. I have been fixing stuff since I was old enough to break stuff. HAHA!
Thanks Matt! How does this radio compare to RCI-X9 as far as sound and reliability? Curious as to what part of PA you ate from. I live SE of Pittsburgh. Love the videos and you remind me of Sparkplug at Madison,PA.
Hey, Aloha Matt. After my back surgery last week. All I've been doing is side band talking can't get around very good right now. Are these going to be on your website?
In my testing it is under modulated in this configuration. There is only really one setting, an exact combination of Mike Gain and RF power adjustments that results in a clean output with NPC on. In order to set this you need to use a scope every time. It's a really pointless pursuit. You can get better AM results by aligning the radio properly with the NPC turned off. @TheRadioGarage I will be interested to see if you find the same thing. 73
I put an RFX on my Ares 2, and it works great on ssb. On Am it pinches the carrier at any power level. It doesn't do that on a Kl203, so I don't know. Have you seen the pinched carrier?
@@2DE808 ok, If it's pinching the carrier you can lower the modulation level in the service menu. You should be able to achieve a very clean waveform with this radio. Good luck
I could care less about the power output. I would be intersted to know if you can get it to not pinch the audio on AM with NPC on with stock finals. My amps will work with 1/4 watt input with forward swing. My amps are tuned input single MRF454 and I get 220 watts rms out. Since they are tuned input the bandwidth is fairly narrow.
The NPC does not work correctly in the radio. It was an experimental feature added at the last minute by the factory, and they have previously spoken about this. It is not recommended to be used, even by the very people who included the experimental feature!. Leave NPC off. 73
One more Anytones attempt in making a cheap radio while using the 80's look as a motivation to do so. Any radio that doesn't have a full frequency display is basicily out of date. The AT6666 has a big frequency (or channal display) , making the use of the menu much easeir and visable. To top this the AT6666 came with higher power rating out of the box, no mod needed, works great on all modes. I know what I will be getting.
Good work, but the NPC looks awful on a scope in SSB mode too. Yes, the power meter will be happy, but that is distortion and IMD. I don't recommend anyone using NPC on this radio, ever. Your result with NCP off looked good. Neat work. 73
@@TheRadioGarage I can make a video showing this if you like, but don't you have everything there to see this for yourself? (A scope with at least 100MHz bandwidth and a SA with a tight RBW for measuring IMD). Just inject a 700/1900 2-tone at 50mV with your Siglent into the radio on SSB and have a look with NPC on and off. FYI, I'm not saying this to be critical of your work, it's good, I'm saying this so that people (your viewers) don't turn a really clean radio into a splatter box unnecessarily. 73
Never said I didn't know how to do a two tone test for SSB , I have shown that many times actually. Just thought maybe you would want to show what you are talking about since you seem passionate about this radio. Doesn't really matter to me. 73
@@TheRadioGarage please don't take any of this as an attack... I didn't say you didn't don't know what to do? I just don't know why you're asking me to show something that you can clearly see yourself? The information I'm sharing on NPC is to help. I have been involved with the radio and I know that the NPC does not work correctly, So I was simply trying to clear that up to avoid people using NPC when they really shouldn't. 73

Anything new on the Anytone Ares II or Radioditty QT40? I dont talk on AM on FM 90% SSB I want the NPC to work well and drive an amp on SSB well!
Nice little radio!
Do you have any instructions or pictures of where to install the wires on the ares 2?
U said the cap value is 470 @ 16V. What is the brand and where in the circuit? Perhaps I can assist.
Nice ... I hate it when it goes bang, hey Matt do you have any extra just the heat sinks without the amplifier? What power supply are you talking about maybe interested...
Quick question… do you replace that 470Uf 16 volt cap with another with exact same rating or do you use a different rating??
Looking good hope you offer these with and with out the RFX for those who would prefer a more stock look and just run a regular heater behind it
Yea once I get some more of them in.

No idea on reliability yet. The sound is good, I think I like the way a dynamic sounds on this more than the stock one.
Nice addition.

Does it pinch the audio on NPC on AM if you turn the RF power to it's lowest setting?
I'll check

The NPC is a terrible feature of the radio, totally useless! Why they put that on the radio is beyond me.
I understand you can care less about power output but others do care. It's impossible to please everyone
Some people will like that feature and some won't ,same goes for literally every feature on every radio.
