    I should have waited a bit and bought this radio instead. Its reminds me of my all time favorite Cobra 148gtl. It would have been a perfect unit for my CB radio comeback after 36 years. Feels like a total reunion. I'm pretty sure it will surpass almost everything except for the 148's legendary modulation. The best of the best!

      the old COBRA 148GTL CB radio is a solid state radio and cannot be destroyed by an EMP.
      The AnyTone CB radio is a digital surface mounted radio and can be DESTROYED by an EMP. It is NOT a good survival radio !

    I got this mike info from Radioocity for their QT40 (rebranded Aires II, it's even in the FCC ID Tag) I got one coming from the big online A store on Saturday! Here is the Mike pinout info:, and they use Cobra 4 pin for dynamic when set for it.
    Below is the pinout information for the speaker mic. I hope it will be helpful to you:

    4 Blue Up/Down *
    Blue and Red switch resistance in when button is pushed

    Fantastic video. It's a nice radio! Thank you for addressing the NPC topic. NPC can really only be used IF you own an oscilloscope. Otherwise, it's exactly as you said, "NPC" is very distorted and unclean most of the time. (It's not really "NPC" yet. Hopefully some firmware changes will come to improve this in the future...) Also, the Fine and Course (+/-5kHz) clarifier setting is available in the normal user menu. You can change this setting without using the PC software. And the frequency readout option works in the WX/2 meter RX mode too! 👍 It's a very cool radio! 73.
    (PS, some nice other rigs you have there. ;) ...)

    Thanks for the video. I picked up a brand new one for $159.99 at a local ham fest (1 actually got two). I like to listen to channel 19 on road trips. My impression is, for the price, it has some nice features. On the downside, the receive is nothing short of awful. The sensitivity is not awful, but the selectively is horrendous. It is a splash-box! This may not be an issue for people in rural areas, but in metro areas, it's a serious issue.

    • @cbradiomagazine
      @cbradiomagazine  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is a pretty common thing with newer radios as they tend to be more sensitive to picking up static in the city. The TRICK is to turn down RF gain to about 60-70%, you’ll find it’s quieter but you don’t lose much receive signal strength. Then turn on the NRC and you’ll be surprised how good it can be, even in the city. I run most of my newer radios this way with good results.

    I got one of these great radios. Now I need to know if The new updates are already installed in the radio or if I have to do some uploading to the radio? A video showing how to do the updates would be very very useful for those of us who have been away from our radios for many years or the complete noobes. We want our radios to do all the cool stuff, but we don't want to mess it up. I can't wait to install this in my vehicle and would love to know if the latest upgrades / updates are already in the newest ones or if I need to use my computer to do the updates / upgrades and how to do it.

    It has a great classic design - please make no apology for it not being menu driven. Those wanting flat screens and menus should seek elsewhere without making any criticism of this radio. People complain about not having a frequency counter on a CB radio - really? CB radio is channelized.

    It is a really cool radio, I wish they didn't use the full export case though as I am unable to fit that anywhere in my old 1986 car... if it fit a single-DIN radio slot I'd definitely get one. The worst part of that is I know its mostly empty inside and easily could have fit into a much smaller package.

    • @tommyw.9424
      @tommyw.9424 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I agree on that. I had enough room in my truck to fit it no problem, but there's no reason this shouldn't have had a Cobra 29 size face and even been shorter front to back, so that it could fit in shallower cubbies with the heatsink on the back.

    • @selfdefensept
      @selfdefensept ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cbradiomagazine I can certainly see your point. Still, from a business standpoint I think it’s a good idea to have a contact email on the site of for no other reason than as a source of information from your readers. They may suggest a topic for an article or video and it would require an answer. You could also set the email box up where it would generate a standard reply stating something like,” your email has been received, and will be read. However, owing to the volume of emails we receive you may not receive a reply.” I think a good topic for an article or video would be discussing what the actual benefit there is,’or lack there of, having side band on the CB that you plan to use in your vehicle when you have one of increasing popular export radios that already gives you 12 watts in the first place on all 40 channels. People seem to obsess about having sideband on their CB. I remember reading comments to your video on the president. Richard, where people were bemoaning the lack of SSB I couldn’t help thinking to myself who needs SSB to get 12 watts when I now have 12 watts on every channel? In any event good luck to you and keep up the good work.

    Not 10 or 50 or 100 but 45..
    Is it just me who finds that weird?

    • @mostlypostie1
      @mostlypostie1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question - It maps the rotary encoders to the actual step sizes that do something in the radio. If maximum was set to say something "rounded" like, "50" or "100", then you would see no direct volume difference between large number jumps. - For example, the volume level would not actually change between 61 and 72 (for an example). To put it another way: at the moment 43 is a different level than 44. And 22 is different to 23, etc... This could be changed with firmware to some degree - but it currently maps the encoders (not potentiometers) accurately to the actual real digital adjustment levels that the radio has available (it is a fully digital radio - it's not analog, even though it looks and feels like an analog one.) Of course, you can turn these display features OFF in the software if you would prefer not to see it. I hope that helps. 73
