A Sad Bearded Dragon's 1 Month Improvements!

  • Last month, I drove 500 miles to pick up some animals, which included this bearded dragon that wasn't in the best condition. Many layers of stuck shed, undernourishment and lethargy. Definitely not the worst things we've dealt with, but still something to be taken seriously! Today, I go over some of the very positive changes in this young bearded dragon.

For each new video he makes, it sounds like he will own a rescue and rehab facility much bigger than the one he has now.
Although he doesn't use a lot of complex words and terms for how he diagnose the issues, his description is enough to make the one listening understand the overall evaluation. He likes to keep everything in "laymen" terms yet also very professional at the same time; a doctor that you can understand their handwriting.

Keep an eye on that foot for swelling! It could possibly be some joint issue like gout. I personally had a beardie with this disease and it’s really debilitating..
but I don’t see much swelling, so what I think happened is he possibly had a break or dislocation that has since healed. With it now being healed in an improper placement, that may be a comfortable way to keep his foot.
The more probable reason could be from the stuck shed. He could’ve at some point had circulation cut off to that hand, and had permanent nerve damage to that hand, thus making him sort of carry it oddly.
Whatever it is, it doesn’t look to be much of a bother. Keep doing what you do!!

Hingle McCringleberry In reptiles it’s too much protein. But they have to already have the disease, increased intake of protein will make it flare up. I had to feed my beardie a strict vegetarian diet.

Alyssa Hi, am looking after my daughter dragon. Am a senior and was freaked out by the creature. Slowly we have become good friends.i even feed her live worms, me of all people. I call her Princess. And she is so comical to us. Expensive to set them up. But once the unit is set up, it’s easy to maintain. Our is very calm and closes her eyes when we pet her. It’s been a learning curve for us. It’s a female and had 30 egg which were not fertile, so no babies, that was shocking. I think eventually I’ll be able to pick her up and carry her about and bath her. I almost want to keep her. Me, who gets creeped out super easily.

"Who knew you could be so glad about blood?"
    - People who never had pregnancy scares.

    • @Call-me-Al
      @Call-me-Al 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Worst part is that a minority do have light bleedings while pregnant, it isn't a period just vaginal bleeding. And of those some even bleed regularly making it seem like a period... So if your period is normally light it can be difficult to tell the difference. And this is one of the several factors that can contribute to women not realizing they are pregnant until they give birth.
I guess it's the only upside to being a heavy bleeder :( Can't mistake vaginal bleeding for a period if you're losing literally deciliters of period blood normally.

My gecko was a lot like yours, skinny, on calci sand, almost all toes gone, regrowing tail. The owner said he was about 11 years old and he lived with me for over 10. It took him a little while to be comfortable with handling, but the last several years he loved it. He would hang out on my shoulder, loved baths and loved his neck and the base of his tail rubbed. That said, he never had a normal shed, and had difficulty tracking and striking prey. Sadly, I lost him last month due to a tumor in his belly. I just wanted to thank you for rehoming your critter, and it reminded me so much of my story.

Many years ago, I was out with some friends and we went to some random guy's house. I got lost on my way to the bathroom and found a 10 gallon aquarium with 2 adult beardies in it. 1 was a skeleton, and the other was so emaciated and cold it just laid in my hand - missing toes and tail. Gave the guy like $20 to take it. I'd had snakes, but not lizards. I nursed her back to health with the help of a local reptile shop and rehomed her after she improved. I wasn't in a big enough place to house her. She was so chill and awesome. Your videos are making me want to help another beardie in need and keep it this time.

I like something like “nurtured”, “rehomed” “rehabilitated” as a scale, since it’s more a judgement of the animal’s history and needs than the quality of the animal itself

I’ve never had nor been around a beardie until now. My husband rescued him from a really bad situation. He had not been fed for at least couple of months and running around in a pile of dirty clothes in a camper. We got him home and I began the research on how to handle. Things where going well he was eating after days of trying this and that. First 3 days he wouldn’t drink then he realized what it was and did great even drank in his bath. That was 2 months ago. Now for the last week and half ever since I bought him a much larger cage and placed him in hit he goes to one end or the other ( most of the time because I’ve moved him to the middle) climbs on his large rock or gifs in his cave and just stays there. His eyes look good and when I talk to him he responds but doesn’t move body only head. He finally ate 1 1/2 pellets yesterday but that’s been it. Won’t eat or drink not even in the bath. We have no vets out here that know about dragons. Do you have any suggestions or advice. Thank you

Rehabed (rehabilitated) would be a good inbetween. Implies that there was some minor issues that got rectified with basic care.

I've been involved in animal rescue for years. I assure you that he IS a rescue! That is absolutely the correct term, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that! I'm very concerned with the folks you got him from. It appears that there may be neglect, possibly abuse, and some shady breeding practices going on. Laws regarding such things are gradually getting better. It's would be a good idea if you find a similar situation in the future to contact law enforcement and let them know that it's something worth looking into. Hope this little guy, and others like him, are seeing a vet. Lots of good ones that work with reptiles. And by the way, he's beautiful! I currently have one about the same size, and I'm happy to say he is a rescue, and he is So sweet. Peace. 😊🐾
