The tip to keep the chest and chest blend in speech mode, to make sure it has an element or core of speech, is super helpful, as well as the exercises the mixed speech and singing.
You are the answer to my prayers. I’ve never been able to really understand this concept until now. I love your explicit instructions and explanations of visceral experience. Thank you!!!!❤🎶
With all my years of researching on my own, to the numerous teachers I've had, this is the first video that actually broke down mix that made sense to me.
i struggle with my mix voice since i have a natural really soft-and-tend-to-use head voice all the time when i sing, even if it's on the lower notes. that's why when i sing in pop genre i produce not so powerful voice compare with most people who sing pop most of their time. it's not really a problem when i sing in a choir (i sing soprano part) but when it comes to solo (any genre), i struggle a lot! but now i found your channel, and i find it so clear the way you explain. I love it! now i really need to practice. lol ps : pardon my english, it's not my main language.
Thank you. You really know how to explain things. Years ago, I studied a bit with Anthony Frisell. Your teaching is very similar to his. Just straight talk without the pomposity I have experienced as well.
Do you have any more tips for not flipping when you are ascending in pitch? I am soprano and always find myself flipping into head voice very low in my range.
Have you watched my video, "Vocal Break, Flip or Crack? Solutions & Exercises Here!"? th-cam.com/video/f2XwoLbtqXg/w-d-xo.html The principle is the same, wherever you experience this flip. If you are singing classical, your bridge or transition will be lower than if you are singing pop.
I would love it if you did a podcast on the dangers of certain medications that can acutely or chronically injure the vocal cords. It was only recently when I looked at the side effects of a steroid inhaler and realized how dangerous it can be to the vocal cords. There are also oral medications that can damage the vocal cords.
Wow… I have learned the differences between these two… But I really wish you were easy for me to find a couple of months ago when I was doing my research. I got the answers I needed from "the worship vocalist", and others. Anyway, I'll just include you and your lesson in my notes nonetheless. Thanks!
You’re welcome. Thank you for this lesson. I just finished watching it. I like the idea of using speech to practice feeling the sensations in your voice with each register. I definitely have a lot of work to do.
your teachings are so good. thank you so much. as a suggestion, you could do videos to help people who want to do voice-overs for audio-book narration, movies, anime, cartoons, etc. there are lots of people like me that want to learn how to use their voices more effectively. if you do videos with the word voice-over and other words from this lexicon, in the title, you could attract more viewers. I understand that your niche is mostly singers. if you want to amplify your niche a bit, consider the voice over. also, you could consider having a Patreon, or something like that. thank you very much. greetings from Portugal
Your videos are very helpful! I had a question. For a female singing pop are you saying inevitably at some stage they’d have to end up in head mix still? Or with the right skill level they could take a chest mix right to the top of their range?
When I siren from head to chest or vice versa, even in a speaking volume, there's pretty much always a crack or break in the sound. Can you recommend a exercise to help even out the break? Is vocal fry good for that? Thanks!
This shows that you are blending well in that part of your voice. I have a couple of videos specifically on that. "Good Singers are aware of what it feels like..." I can't feel anything in my head when I sing (or it isn't perceptible to me) and yet I am told that I am good singer. Actually one of the better singers at karaoke, but then that may be subjective from the listener. As you can guess this was difficult for me to do as I cannot feel a thing. I am concerned that I am singing in falsetto and not realizing it. Which not something I aspire to do. I would love to get wav files of your chest/chest mix/head mix/head voice in samples so that I can analyze it with a spectrogram. Can't do it off of these videos as the upper frequencies are removed when creating mp3s. If I had something concrete to work with I can modulate how I sing to produce similar formants. I can sing low and high so it doesn't matter which range is represented.
Tip only, hope it helps in your singing. Singing in chest voice, you will feel something vibrates in your chest while singing in head voice, you will find something vibration in the back of your head. That's it, hopes it helps. Happy singing.
I teach that as a head mix that *sounds* chesty through resonance, choice of vowel shape and vocal fold closure. I'll try to include that in a future video.
I'm 60 years old and I'm totally lost I really want to sing but I don't know if I will be able to learn I just want sing in my church in a choir or solo properly

Question Madam, I'm a baritone, and after the F#4, G4, and G#4 my mix suddenly(and it really is noticable) changes quality and becomes more "heady" so to say, it's quite a bit squeakier. Is this a definitive sign that the voice has shifted over into head mix, or is it just the way my voice is? And if so, is there a way of thickening the A through C notes (i.e. making them sound "chestier") ?
I really cannot answer your question without seeing and hearing you. However, that is getting pretty high for a baritone and the voice does need to shift *gradually*. It sounds like your shift is not gradual. As a general tip, try to think and approach those high notes as "lighter speech" rather than flutey and floaty. Be sure not to force your voice.
You should sing them in a comfortable range for your voice. The exercises do not go super high in this video, but be sure to do it in the part of your voice that is comfortable - might be higher or lower than I demonstrated.
Go back and watch the first video in the Mixed Voice Playlist and proceed from there. Start with the speaking exercises to understand more easily. Mixed Voice Made Easy! th-cam.com/play/PLaWjWxiTysDCCsBgnhWjfRRAWIPflxZp1.html
@@Victoria-Victorious I was speaking about the Thicker belt, Is belting 100% chest or there Is some head voice because some people say that Is 100% chest and others disagree. While mixed belt obviously has some head voice
Ok but some of the black church choirs I hear- the ladies sound like they can hit the uppermost register whilst still singing in full chest voice- I can’t wrap my head around it- are they just blessed with a superb vocal range? 😂
What sounds like a "full chest voice" can actually be a chest mix. Some singers just do that naturally without even thinking about it while others have to learn how to do it.

Yes, that would be a male singing in his falsetto.

Is speeking voice is the same as chest voice 🤔 ?
Most people speak in chest and chest mix. I discuss this in my other videos on mixed voice.
I think chest mix is belting right ?
It depends on the terminology used and who you ask. It could be a mixed belt or a thicker belt (which is a heavier blend). See my video on belt.
@@Victoria-Victorious I was speaking about the Thicker belt, Is belting 100% chest or there Is some head voice because some people say that Is 100% chest and others disagree. While mixed belt obviously has some head voice
We are always mixing to some degree - never 100% pure chest or 100% pure head. The 2 muscles (TA & CT) work together.
Ok but some of the black church choirs I hear- the ladies sound like they can hit the uppermost register whilst still singing in full chest voice- I can’t wrap my head around it- are they just blessed with a superb vocal range? 😂
