    It was such a pleasure to be apart of this film. I am so happy that someone took the time to create this story because it is so important to see things from another perspective. Many people have their own assumptions regarding people in poverty and now the truth can be told. MY TRUTH has been told. Thank you so much for including me and allowing me to tell my everyday struggles. You all did an amazing job creating this film. I was so excited watching this yesterday at the little theater.

      this whole paragraph is a black culture statement. social justice, society, watch out when you see these free college liberal arts majors start talking. oh the struggles.... there culture makes them. they need it to justify saying society or social justice and rights its a dirty little cycle just like the city of Rochester never forget Rochester ny is a dirty little city. listen to them. determine I felt I got to I say the wrong thing it never stops OMG

    I’m a bus mechanic for NYC transit, From my limited experience with dispatching I can say that 3 buses right behind each other is a no go, the buses should be 5 to 15 minutes apart, that way if someone misses their first bus another will be along at the most 15 minutes. Rochester transit needs some major overhauls.

    Sincerely, and I lived at 10 Churchlea Place, and then 32 Lenox Street (one street over from the white round facade building shown at 3:08) from 1964 to 1978, but the 19th Ward was the homes for people that walked to work every day back when industry and manufacturing was located within walking distance of where one lived, and long before RTS. West Avenue had Taylor Instruments (1851), Phaulder (1884), and Ritter (1887) all long before public transportation was a way to work. Rochester Products division of GM (1939), and Gerber Foods (1946) were out on Buffalo Road. . . When state and local governments tax corporations to death, legislate them away from homes with zoning rules, and spend on social programs that facilitate single family homes (section 8) and NOT working (Welfare), rather than on urban manufacturing, corporate retention, trade and career skills taught in high school that focus on taking human time and effort and putting them into creating finished goods and products from raw materials, you get Rochester and this victim mentality. Rochester was built and made great by people that walked to work every day. Yeah even in the snow! There used to be pedestrian tunnels that went under the railroad tracks that parallel West Avenue! . . .WHY? . .So all the workers could WALK safely to the other side of the tracks on their way to Taylor Instruments or back home. Nobody needed a bus pass or a car. What is needed is a government that cultivates and incentivizes manufacturing IN THE UNITED STATES within walking distance of where the workers live and mandates that people WILL work, or they WILL perish!!!

    I don't need no transportation to hold me down. I live off Jefferson Ave and I worked for ten years in Henrietta. Even when there was two feet of snow and no sidewalks in Henrietta but I still got my ass to work. And to make matters more worse, I was an IV drug user for 19 years and I was the top worker at my job when I wasn't in prison which I kept violating for curfew and catching new charges. So if I can get get to work on time every day anybody can do it.

      Facts. These people just arent dedicated enough and making excuses. Rochester is a very small metro area. I rode the bus for years getting an hour early to work everyday until i saved up for a ride. I appreciate that car so much more because of it.

      These people were pretty much crying about how the bus isn't fast enough, while proposing no solutions. I think they are asking for free cars, probably with a paid gas card too. Or maybe RTS should start a free limo service? Heck! why not just give them a nice place out in Pittsford while we are at it, free everything for everyone with Brandon's magic money!

    Damn, only 6 mins in but this video is so dope. His explanation of the trickle effect that can happen by something as simple as lack of transportation at the very beginning is so real. The same thing can also happen if you just mess up a few jobs in general and waste too much time in life. You really gotta do everything with employers to the system. But about Rochester's transportation, again, this shit is spot on. It sucks so much. I currently live deep in the suburbs, borderline boons (not from there just ended up there) and for a while had no car. The transportation system is absolutely non existent. It's even worse than being in the city. The bus runs 3 times a day at absolutely non practical times and then takes over an hour to get downtown, just to start all over again. On the weekend, this bus doesn't run at all. And for whatever reason, systems like probation don't care about any of this and want to know why you'd possibly not be able to get to an appointment. It makes absolutely no sense. To go anywhere via this bus you have to literally be up at 6 am and get home around 11 pm, even just for an appointment, let alone a job. Living in the city it's a little better, but it's still a grind to get anywhere even then. It's absolutely trash and needs to be redesigned. Other cities in this country have better systems. I've missed out on lots of opportunities because of a lack of transportation in this city. You basically HAVE to have a car at the end of the day.

    It's necessary to rethink the transit system in this city. It's past time our politicians and corporate leaders actually do something about the inferior transit system and the lack of jobs and job training for young people. We've heard a lot of talk for years now, but little has changed for the better. Let's hope the young people like the ones in this movie can make change happen, starting at the grassroots level, and moving up to the ruling class.

    • @erikahansen6959
      @erikahansen6959 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It absolutely needs to reevaluate. Even to entice those who do not use it now but who want a less auto-tied lifestyle. And getting those people to give up their cars for an inconsistent system is difficult. Plus, the current system needs to be more conscious of where people are going and where they WANT TO GO. Many of the major lines are still old haunts in the city.

    • @peterbelanger4094

      That is something I have been thinking about since I was a kid and first learned how to navigate the bus in Rochester, back in the 80's. The whole thing is a mess, it always has been. They should have never shut down the subway, 490 could have been built on top of it.
      The city needs some light rail, and the whole system needs to abandon the hub design, and study who really needs the bus and where they are going. A couple light rail lines, with shorter bus lines off of that would be better than hub design.
      But money is needed for that, and Rochester's big money has gone away.
      Even at that, they could at least stand to re-evaluate bus routes, and add more. But I don't think RTS is competent enough for that.

    Go Reconnect Rochester! If you're able, use your own two wheels (bikes e-bikes/50cc scooters/motorcycles) as much as you can.
    Yes bad weather and unsafe roads are deterrents, however it's a great value option. It's not for everyone but far better than relying soley on RTS or going into debt to drive a car. Do the math on driving, that $700 Saturn will cost much more to fuel/insure/maintain. 2 wheeled options are much simpler.

      Well I live in Southwestern Ontario and there is NO by law in my city like that when I left the grocery store where I worked at 10pm, many of the girls I worked with took a bus, walked home or biked. Canada is NO different in the US, Ottawa being the Capitol of Canada must be something special.

    It hits me ll the time. I am a middle aged white lady who takes the bus to strong hospital for my job. If anyone actually cared if I showed up on time, there is no way I would still have my job. I have the choice of being a free minutes late or an hour early. I am not choosing the hour early, but I see my fellow bus riders penalized and panicked if they are late for either group or work. We also need to work to reduce the stigma of taking the bus. I had a boss who lived at twelve corners whose cardied, and I pointed out that there was a bus, and she told me she would rather die than take the bus and walked home. They bus isn't scary, and there is limited room for I improvement of routes because our streets are not on a grid. Also, people need to locate services like DSs and urgent care on bus routes or downtown. Getting to Henrietta for DSs is ridiculous. And people who run services in the suburbs who penAlize people for timeliness need to be aware of the bus schedules. If you run something where on time is 8, but the bus gets there at 7:05 or ,8:05, maybe change your program to start at 8:15. I think everyone in Rochester should try to ridethe bus for a year and see for themselves. Also I have the best ever session of a bus commute. I have no kids, I love to read, the bus stop is at my house and at my work, and as a middle aged white lady everyone feels sorry for me. Don't feel sorry for me, think for one moment about the other bus riders who don't have it so easy and are hauling kids to daycare on the bus, then going to work. Also it would help them see that the bus is not scary, it is full of people just trying to get to work in a timely fashion.

  • @BRAVO-du9ed

    I rode RTS for a while to work. It is the cheapest way to commute. The fare is $1 up, $1 back. That fare hasn't changed in ages. It is a national model for mass transit. Transit companies from all over the U.S. come here to see how RTS does it.
    I had to be at work by 8:00 so I would leave at around 7. Got to work on time every day and had time for coffee and planning my work day. Some folk have to take several busses to where they have to go. Some have to get to the next town over. Your best bet is to just leave the house earlier. RTS will get you there and if I'm not mistaken, it the second cheapest bus ride of all mass transit companies in the entire country.

    • @NYPATRIOTBX
      @NYPATRIOTBX 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s the second cheapest fare in the country but it’s not exactly the model, NYC transit runs 24/7, the trains alone move approximately 5 million people a day.

    I am a Rochester resident and I am fortunate enough to have a car. I have never once taken the bus. I am not wealthy and I would love to not have to pay for a car and save the money. Better public transportation can help lift an entire city and it is long overdue. I am seeing this in 2021 and the message is unfortunately still relevant. We MUST invest in better public transportation.

      jaddy540 Spoken like a true, uppity minded tight ass, who for whatever reason, thinks that you somehow have it all mapped out, simply because you do things differently, because your method has worked for you. Well, sometimes shit just isn't feasible for all, even when folk are trying their hardest and doing their best. I take it that you've never heard the expression "...Sometimes, your best just isn't good enough"? Well, it happens that way in life much more often than most folks would care to accept or admit. Our best efforts and initiatives, sometimes are simply not good enough, and we have to face that. However, it is not the fault of "we the people", if many u.s. cities are still underdeveloped and behind in the times, to where, residents are constantly put in a strain of some sort, but are still expected to be productive and forward moving. This is what makes the u.s. political and voting system such a clown and shit show. However, I strongly question how millions of folks could continue for so many decades, to vote for these same politicians and types of politicians who neglect to bring about real change that is needed in America? If in all of these decades, the same problems are still lingering around so prevalently... it simply means that they are either being neglected, or else they're simply not being engaged appropriately. Which would essentially mean that; most politicians are incompetent. Still, however, "the people" foolishly continue to support them. And the u.s. government should really be ashamed of themselves, for the way that they've allowed America to come to shambles. There are many other countries that are outdoing us in several ways. As far as technology and forward progression goes. It's now 2018, and mass transportation is still an unresolved issue in countless cities across America. That's pathetic. Meanwhile, "the people" naïvely continue to call politicians their "Leaders". Smh. So, where exactly is it that they are leading everyone to, other than the hamster wheel and the slaughter mill? They can't even keep city buses running efficiently. And these are the folks that millions of other folks trust to make decisions that impact us all. Wow!

      Scroll up and read my comment. It's rough. If you live on something like Lake Ave where the bus runs at least once an hour every hour......yeah it's easier. But these routes are all different. Then some people have to take multiple routes, and Rochester's bus system is outdated and not designed for that.

    Rochester as I knew it in the 50-60s was completely dependent upon Kodak, Xerox, Bausch/Lomb, Delco. With this money source gone due to "free trade deal" outsourcing, attrition and layoffs, it's obvious mass poverty and petty crime has become a way of life.

    Why is there no simple solution to the "no money to get to first week of job" such as RTS issuing bus passes that an employer can give to a new employee? For that matter, I'm guessing a lot of people would be willing to contribute to a fund for bus passes for people getting to work and school.

    I don't buy all these people's excuses. There's three things to stay out of poverty. 1. graduate high school. 2. get a full-time job. 3.don't have kids until you are married. If you do these three things you will stay out of poverty 99.8% of the time. Most of these people I'm sure struggling to make that $3 bus trip also have multiple PlayStations multiple Xboxes multiple big screen TVs in their house. These people live beyond their means. You don't need the latest Air Jordan sneakers. How about paying your rent instead. I live and work in the Rochester area and have my whole life. I've had to take the bus here and there it's not as bad as they say. Sure if you run to the bus stop and are late I'm sure it's a pain in the ass but if you're like a normal person and get there early you will have no problems with public transport.
