      @@JMEMantzel - I mean, yeah, it matters, that's not "they broke" that's "sensitive electronics got submerged" but, either way, yes. Battery-wise the cells are almost certainly okay and are easy to inspect and fix. Circuits are probably wrecked, which is fine because the tools will still accept and work with them without communication (Dewalts will run on a car battery if they have to). Charging is going to be the tricky one, but, you can just clumsily piggyback on another empty battery when charging.

    Have you considered just making the whole thing on the roof as one big "tile", instead of many that you put on later? Alternatively build it on the roof in rings starting from the bottom and each new ring overlapping the prior one below. You could let the netting stick further out on the upper part and attach them by 'gluing' them to the roof with cement.
    Is the roof strong enough to walk on? If not, maybe you can build some sort of scaffolding that you are connected to incase the roof gives in, so you don't fall all the way...
    Seems easier to make them on the roof to avoid the hassle of making them fit.

    • @calvingarrett3245
      @calvingarrett3245 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I agree that does sound like a really good idea to do it like that each rain overlapping each other they will be one continuous ring

    • @lapitop4206
      @lapitop4206 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One problem with going in rings is that the curvature which increases as you move to the top makes it tricky with the flat plastic (avoiding folds or cuts as much as possible). Maybe it's better to put the plastic from top down in shapes broadening out and with overlap of course. The seems could be put together and folded a few times to make it leak proof.
      Maybe making the whole upper part of the cement as one whole layer is better.

  • @consaka1
    @consaka1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I can't wait to see the tile project. I'm planning on building a tiny play log cabin 12x12 foot. I wanted something creative for the roof. This should do it.

    Well that looks awfully exciting, like being a five-year-old on Christmas morning again! I've been running the knock off DeWalt batteries for about 4 years and I'm convinced consistency is all you get with brand name. Some of the knockoffs are slightly crappier, but about half are distinctly either more powerful or longer lasting. Overall I guess there's been a very slight increase in total burnouts, but not statistically relevant. At the price difference, at least where I am you can get three to one so it's a no-brainer

    For welding, Have you considered building a hydrogen generator? I know you like melting what's there instead of adding material. I'm sure you could also make something out of microwave parts. Assuming you've got the electric for either but welding takes power regardless.

    • @braithmiller
      @braithmiller 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In all my welding I am not aware of hydrogen- oxygen being used, not to say it cannot. Somehow I think it would be more efficient to use the electricity directly in welding than electrolysis to gas, burning.

    • @tree6039
      @tree6039 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@braithmiller 40v, 150 amps, I don't think that's more than most welders. Look up hho generators and welding. You've got to build a bigger unit than most videos to get 1700 liters per hour and 50 lbs of pressure, but I've seen them cut and weld everything including ceramics, and evaporated tungsten, so over 6000 degrees.

      @@tree6039 what would the possible benefit over plasma be?

    • @tree6039
      @tree6039 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@braithmiller I've used plasma for cutting and welding, but honestly don't know enough about them to say. Using pressurized gas is different than an arc. I like not needing wire or rods or gas canisters i have to refill. Different people like different types of welding, it's just personal preference. Other situations I don't have that much electricity but I can take gas bottles with me. Just depends on the person and the job.

    • @braithmiller
      @braithmiller 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don’t know if it’s something you wanna be doing but you could make petrol/ diesel out of the plastic by simply evaporating it in a vat heated without letting in oxygen (like you do making charred cloth or coal) and then condensate it to a fuel for outboard engines etc. Depending on the evaporation point and when to condensate you could be making petrol and or diesel if I understood it right. Seen a guy do it on camera on a remote self sufficient island set up. But the technology used was just low tech.

    • @SteifWood
      @SteifWood 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, one big goal Jamie has had with his whole endeavor on the islands is to be free from fossil fuel. All(?) his houses, boats, tools, everything, run on green energy aka solar. Why on earth should he want to 'make' diesel for engines he doesn't have, need or want?
