In my country, we don't even have the luxury of electricity to see the generator clearly to work on it. We'll work in dusty conditions nearly under burning sunlight, to get this fixed. Only when it starts running, can you run indoors to use and electric fan to cool down.
That was such a great lesson. I thought that everything inside the carburetor would have been gummed up worse than it was. You did a fantastic job on that small generator. Another fantastic video.
I have the same generator. It has spark, but it will not start, not even on brake cleaner. Throttle is full open. Where should I look? Is it possible that the intake membranes stay closed and is there a way to check it?
I have one like this (mine is yellow) and I have no spark. I have voltage coming off the two wires coming from the flywheel coil and then they go into a small box and then one lead comes out of there and goes to the coil on the end of the spark plug lead. It looks like I have no voltage coming out of that box. Do you know what it is ? I was wondering if I can bypass it and go straight to the spark plug coil, but I would have two leads not one ?
Private gas station owners that use ethanol can have water added to the gasoline that they purchase. The ethanol distributors will ask the owners if they do, and how much, when ordering. So the ethanol pulling in moisture from the air is the story we have get from that.
I got a similar one. Never started, just been in storage. Replaced starter cover that was damaged in transit, fuel tap lever broke so I replaced fuel tap, mice had chewed wires under the tank thus they needed some fixing as well. Starts and runs well but does not start easily when warm and always needs many pulls. I'm using canned synthetic fuel for small engines. I've learned some engines might have starting issues with synthetic fuel since it has less volatile components in it. This is my only small engine which has problems related to synthetic fuel, though I'm not sure if that's the reason for starting issues.
I have no experience with synthetic fuels. However not impossible, I would think to check make sure the correct plug is in it and maybe carb adjustment??
the surging throttle is actually a plugged pilot jet, and can also be the rpm is set too high. the pilot jet is the little brass piece under the idle stop, and its got a very tiny hole in it. i usually use 1 strand from a 14 gauge wire to clean them out. and the govenor is actuated by a spinning weight inside, usually a couple ball bearings, or a weight
Just be careful , i bought the exact same model a week ago. When i oiled the little air filter sponge as per manual before first startup, i noticed that the oiled sponge filter does not completely touch the plastic cover on the front when closed again. There is a little gap between the sponge and the front cover. Also the airfilter cover has a little plastic ridge that follows the outer edge of the rectangular cover and fits into the same rectangular slot that receives it on the plastic housing of the carburettor. . . there is also a small gap right around that sucks in unfiltered air from the outer edge. I used a square o-ring (yes the o-ring material is not round but square) that i fitted into the rectangular slot , after cutting it precisely to the exact inner length of the slot. Where the air-filter sponge is supposed to seal against the air-cover when replaced, i stuck a 4mm piece of flat weather strip where it is suppose to touch and seal against the plastic cover. If you oil the sponge and press hard against the airfilter plastic cover when it is back in place, the oil of the spomge will leave a rectangular oil mark against the cover, showing you exactly where to stick the weather strip . . .no more unfiltered air (dust) getting into the carb.
So here's a question: I cleaned the carb (2 jet pinholes, blew out the emulsifier tube as it cannot be removed). With a drained carb it starts on brake cleaner, but when I open the fuel valve it will not start, not even on brake cleaner. When I bought it a couple of weeks ago the seller dit demonstrate the generator and it was running. Where should I look?
It sounds like you're on the right track with cleaning the carb. Sometimes the simplest things can trip us up! As you might already know, internal combustion engines need 3 things. Fuel, compression (to compress the fuel/air mixture) and a source of ignition, spark. These are my three go 2’s for problem solving. The way you’re explaining it, the first thing I would go to is the carb needle and seat. One of two things I think is happening here. It’s stuck closed, not allowing fuel into the bowl, it’s stuck open flooding the cylinder. If that all seems ok, I would go to compression. I have seen things run on brake cleaner and starter fluid but not run on gas because that mixture needs to be compressed. Good luck!
Good question. I had no manual so I just adjust the float tab to fully seat the needle when the float is perfectly horizontal to the bottom of the carburetor casting. Hope this helps
My generator also having same issue as you mentioned that the throttle is keep moving. Can it be fixed it by adjusting the fuel-air mixture screw loosen? Pls tell me about the idle screw where should it be? At low rpm all the time? I adjust the idle screw for changing rpm because of engine throttling unstable.
To set your idle screw this is what I do. I use a multi meter to set the engine speed once my meter has the 120v ac needed. It can plus or minus a few volts. The voltage changes with engine speed. For my mixture screw, I turn it all the way in then backed it out a turn to start. Then I put a small load on the generator with a work lamp. Then I adjusted the screw until I got smooth idle.
A few things here. I know these will sounds silly but you need to check. 1. fuel in the tank 2. valve is open (cycle valve back and forth) 3. bottom of tank is clean (no rust) 4. if you take the hose off of the valve on the tank, does fuel come out. 5. is the hose clear (not plugged) 6. Is the needle stuck in the seat. 7. is the needle adjusted properly to open when the float comes down. 8. is the carburetor inlet clean Hope this helps!
hi my gasoline generator runs ten minutes then stop after 5 minutes then start it again run ten minutes then stop every time like that what is the problem thank you
@@adelalsmadi6921 Oh... the difference between regular oil and two-stroke oil is that the 2 stroke stuff has a lower ash content and lubricates better due to the viscosity . This helps with deposits that tend to form on the plug and the piston when the oil is burned. I would say that is probably your issue. Lack of lubrication makes it stop (seize) because it's too hot or carbon build up on the plug.
The one I am working on in this video did not have any lights on it so I am not able to help. If it runs, it should have power unless the circuit breaker is faulty. Thanks for watching. 👍
Check that hose from the tank to the carb. Mine was very old and cracking. try tightening the bolt on the bottom of the carb bowl. it just needs to be snug.
I have one of these I bought for $10. Would not run for anything. I put a new piston and rings in it and still same thing. Makes 89psi cold, has spark when grounding plug out of the cylinder and plenty of compression to run. The plug gets wet from the carb and engine vacuum. Won't even try to start if you squirt gas through the carb or down the plug hole. It doesn't have the recoil on it but I've seen them start right up with a drill and mine will just crank all day but never fire once. Anyone know what could be wrong? Also the on/off switch does not effect spark. It will produce spark regardless of on/off switch position.
Hmmm. Fuel+compression+spark= run. That’s really strange that it won’t even spit when you spray fuel down the carb. The only thing I can see is spark. Not enough spark. Weak coil. Wrong plug. Wrong gap. Damaged wire. Compression sounds ok 90-105 it should run. Anyone else?
@@NorthernHomeGarage since it's cheap enough and it wouldn't be a big loss I'll try a new plug. I didn't realize the ft7rc torch wasn't the plug in the manual. Appreciate you boosting the comment.
@@NorthernHomeGarage not a single lick unfortunately. I even put a dribble of almost straight gas in the intake side of the carb when the new plug didn't do anything. It was pregapped over .035" otherwise it was a match. I also thinned the mixture in the tank with some straight gas but yeah nothing at all. When I opened up this gen for the piston it was all carbon cruddy in the combustion area and the piston was too but no damage to the cylinder block wall and piston. I polished it before the new piston and saw no compression bump so I'm assuming the make around 89psi cold in good shape. I have no clue but the on/off switch doesn't seem to work. I wouldn't care if I could get it to start lol. I'm glad I didn't split the crank cases like I was gonna. I need that fulfilling and satisfying start like everything else I go and get in non working condition gives me after a little love lol.
@@kkc3009 if you haven’t tried this I suggest turning off the fuel, drying the plug and cylinder with compressed air and put it back together. With the fuel still off, spray some raw fuel in the carb and try it then. Also, because you don’t have a pull start , make sure you’re spinning it in the correct direction. Another thing to check, make sure the governor on the block is free and connected. It could be stuck keeping the carb closed ? Failing all this, it must be insufficient spark or low compression based on what you’re saying.

This makes no sense to me. Why would a distributor want to add water to a stations purchase? For profit? Pretty sketchy if this is true.
