1) Most aftermarket "Cold Air" intakes are really just under hood "Hot Air" intakes. If the air filter is not sealed in an enclosure that has an end opened to ducted cool air, you'll just be sucking warm less dense under hood air. Better is to use the 2004+ CVPI Air box assembly along with the 2006+ CVPI intake tube with an 80mm MAF - used 2006+ CVPI parts should be cheaper. 2) Forget the throttle spacers, and use a 70 or 75mm throttle body instead. 3) If you're just going to do some small bolt on mods, keep the stock intake manifold. The aftermarket manifolds will not provide a boost in power unless you are going to regularly run it at 5500 + RPMs. 4) Hollowing out the front CATs may give a boost in power, but hollowing out or deleting the rear CATs does nothing. The exhaust manifolds and stock exhaust system is more of a restriction. The front CATs are what are called "Pre-CATs". They are there mostly for when the engine is cold and warming up which is why they are closer to the engine. The rear CATs are there for when the engine is at operating rating temperature hence why they are further back in the exhaust system. 5) Most civilian CVs came with 2.73:1 rear gears. Swapping out to a 3.27:1 or 3.55:1 will give you snappier acceleration, but overall really won't make the car that much faster. I've got a 2008 CVPI with 3.27:1 gears that gets about 23 MPG or so @ 60 MPH. Also, since the 4R70 and 4R75 use splash lubrication for the tail shaft, using anything higher then a 3.55:1 gear requires modification to get more rear lube or the tail shaft seal will fail. Really, one of the best sites for the Panther platform is Chris @ ADTR.net, and Darrin @ BCA Transmissions - bcawebstore.com

The stock intake is a cold air intake. It draws air from the wheel well which is outside the engine compartment. Aftermarket intakes draw air from within the engine compartment which makes them HOT air intakes. Put a shift kit in the transmission. You will have much more fun. Besides if you want a hot rod start with a lightweight car such as a Mustang or Nova. Sheeesh.

I uncrimped and removed the heat shields on the rear cats, cut a c-shaped panel in the cat body and bent it open. This way i could completely remove all the material inside. Then, bent the panel back closed, reweld the seams and replaced the heat shields. Looks stock and no one is the wiser!

Unfortunately there are no links as the wheels (18" 2011 Mustang) were bought locally on Marketplace and the center caps I found on eBay (listing is gone). But shouldn't be too hard to find!
be-careful thinking can lead to trouble lol you know changing to a cold air intake has been known to help increase the sound a little, maybe you can keep an eye out for a good used one to keep it budget friendly. At least the throttle body spacer will kinda help the throttle body stay a hair cooler and give you a little more runner length to help with some torque
Superchargers are always the better option for these old big block V8s. Reason being, they are less complex, and a Supercharger is less complex than a turbo which = less things that could go wrong. A Supercharger is more direct power as well.
In my opinion true performance starts in the drivetrain and this goes double for an automatic. The first thing I like to do with my automatic project cars is get them shifting harder/faster and keep them from wasting quite so much of the power they already have. I just put a really hard shifting servo that also reduces slip in my $600 Trans Am project and it cost me less than $200 bucks including shipping. TCI makes a valve body for GrandMa's transmission that does the same thing and it only cost about 160 bucks. The downside is it's a bit more difficult to install as you need to drop the pan. Apart from that, one of the cheapest performance mods you can do for this kind of car is to swap to the P71 interceptor driveshaft as it is lighter and puts noticeably more power to the ground, you should be able to find one in a junkyard very easily and for cheep. Jegs also has good converters for that trans. starting at 400 bucks and good rear gears for even less. Fuel mileage shouldn't be a real issue since the car already has an OD trans. A reasonably lower gear wouldn't have any worse effect on fuel mileage than the bigger injectors you'd have to move up to if you turbo or supercharged it. Speaking of power adders have you considered nitrous? A really good wet kit specifically for a Crown Vic 4.6 that you can safely spray an extra 150+ HP with cost about half what it would cost to turbo the car and the results would be comparable when the button is on, maybe even better. A cheap dry kit that you can safely spray an extra 75+ HP with cost even less but they have limitations, no fuel solenoid means your safe shot limit is much lower however some guys are supposedly running 125 and 150 HP dry shots on 4.6's with success. I think if you did the P71 driveshaft, Tbody spacer, cold air, and the TCI valve body it would be a sweet little package that altogether wouldn't be too difficult to install and wouldn't hurt the wallet to badly. If you wanna get crazy then throw in the gear, converter and nitrous and you'd be running with turbo cars for considerably less cash. I can send you a link to the forum where I just read the nitrous info or links to any parts I mentioned if you are interested. I don't really have anything to do on this fine Saturday so I figured I'd help you research some mods for GrandMa LoL
Well now! I do t rightly know how to respond to a short story! Lol Other than to say you raid some really good options! Yes!!! And it’s easier than ever when you already have a hoist and other tools to do the job standing up! I’ll definitely look into that kit! DM me the link on IG and I’ll take a peek! As far as nitrous, I think I’ll hold off for now as I do want to use a power adder at some point! I’ll look for an aluminum driveshaft as well as rear gear options! I really appreciate the help!
@@OldeCarrGuy Yeah sorry that was a long one, I don't mean to sound like a hipster or anything but youtube is the only social media I mess with. @@gsfbffxpdhhdf7043 You have a track car. Most people want a fast street car. Panther people want a car that is basically the same luxury street ability as stock but higher fun factor because of more hp and torque and faster light to light and on the highway. It was good light to light and effortlessly cruised up back road hills when on a drive.
Cold air intake is pointless without a tune. Your check engine light will come on for lean on bank 1 and 2 without a tune. I just did all of what you mentioned plus i did a j mod to the trans. but i also got a marty ochs tune and an sct x4 device. If you got the money that marty tune is where it's at. I have a 2004 GM GS. I’m glad I ran across your channel because I have been thinking about some upgrades for my car. I’ve had it 5 years and I have 108, 417 miles on it. Did you put size 16 mustang wheels on it? Would you recommend just straight pipes over the catalytic converter? I want a nice sound and some more horse power.
My Mustang wheels are 18". As far as straight pipes, they can be loud and crackly and obnoxious during deceleration. I knocked out the rear cats only and have a nice rumble!
Olde Carr Guy 10-4. I enjoy watching your “Grandma” videos, they are very helpful. I’ve been wanting to upgrade mine the right way and you have given me tons of ideas. Thank you kindly sir, from Mississippi!
Thanks Super J. If you don't already follow my channel, I have a 2003 GMG also that I lifted and put 31's on it. That's the car we're turboing. Along with other "stuff". Thanks for watching bud!
Those cats and the mufflers got to go. Also find a junkyard mustang and find a h pipe or x pipe. Without one the exhaust can be a bit clappy. Then you need to watch rizzo's video on how to jmod the tranny. You can squeal tires all the way through 3rd gear with a jmod. Takes like 20 minutes in the driveway if you know your way around some tools. I did mine in 20 minutes. while I was replacing the over drive servo snap ring, that busted off on my valve body. causing 4th gear to stop working. Now my town car shifts so quick the serpentine belt will squeak from sliding. 🤣🤣🤣 I'm about to put a turbo on in this weekend.

Hey I have four Mercury marauder chrome rims factory OEM. I was thinking about getting a black crown Victorian and making it look like a marauder clone. L71 Victoria, Or a black grand Marquis. Which one of those two is better? What do you think is the best bang for your buck grand marquis versus crown Victoria? Which one do you recommend for a marauder conversion
It's all about the dollars. If you want a car with more options, go with the MGM. Also, you wont have to swap the header panel and headlights if you find a mercury because they are different.
Hey Sam! I did a video on that! Check it out: INSTALLING A BLACK PATH RACING THROTTLE BODY SPACER ON MY 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS th-cam.com/video/MPVTLt1MYFM/w-d-xo.html
A good tune up always helps but higher octane doesn't necessarily make your car run better, just cost more at the pump. And with todays gas prices, I'll be pumping in the regular fuel that the car was intended to run.
Nice off a crown vic? But hey I own an 03 MGM with duals and a h-pipe off a crown vic. I went with thrush welded mufflers and kept all 4 cats. Sounds good and not too loud.
All you need to do is a gear swap to 3.73. You won’t think about the cost after your first test drive. I promise. That’s the path to the fountain of youth for grandma.
You do that was just offering a bit of advise. The X pipe flows 100% better then the "H" pipe and makes a loader sound witch is what I though you was looking for.
The spacer is a joke, the car already has a 5" one curving up to the TB. Cold air intake is a waste of time and money because the motor moves so little air. Now the intake and exhaust will help but not much, you will need to re-cam to make any noticeable gains. Look into a 50 shot NOS set-up.
I thought $250 sounded awfully low. Yea don't spend too much money on the ole gal, but you should let your self splurge on one good $350 part or something. Skip the throttle body spacer and put the money towards a good intake manifold...or ignore and do whatever you want with your car! Haha
@@OldeCarrGuy that's what I like to hear! I was looking at intake manifold earlier, and I think your stocker might be closer to one of the better produced anyway. Maybe porting it would be the perfect budget approach for the ole gal
Buy a different car if the panther platform 4.6 doesn't suit you. The bullet proof daily driver is what it is. If you want a sleeper , install a coyote or LS motor. Blowing up a 4.6 is a waste of time. Let it go.
@@OldeCarrGuy the only intake that works better that the performance improved plastic is the aluminum bullit intake. Which makes 7 hp over the plastic intake. They also run fo a gnote used. Not really budget hp ehh. Nitrous nitrous lol

Cold air intake is a waste of money 💰 a regular K/N filter works great 👍 the air box same as Marauders.
I did a video explaining the theory behind cold air and high flow. I opted for thew High flow!
Based on the state of that fuel filter, changing it probably gained you a half an mpg

I don't want my daily driver Town Car to have a stripped out interior, overaggressive shift points and 4.56 gears. I did love 3.96 gears I had in a 1970 Dodge. It was good light to light and effortlessly cruised up back road hills when on a drive.
What wheels are those in the car in the videos cover pic
18" 2011 Mustang wheels
Sir a year ago my grand marquis went on limping mode so i decided to cut off my CATs and my marquis was super loud
I HAVE A 2006 CROWN VICTORIA POLICE INTERCEPTOR WITH 40 SERIES DUEL FLOWMASTERS ON IT. IT SOUNDS AWESOME. I THINK THAT'S WHAT YOU NEED ON GRAND MA.
I think you may be right! lol
This is great! Like looking into a youth mirror! Lol
What rims do you have on this car? I’d like to replace my stock wheels and I like those
18" off a 2011 Mustang. No spacers or modification needed.
At least a 20 hp increase, better shift points, traction control disabling. Mo's speed shop is the best with these panther platforms.
All the little mods I’ve done is in preparation for a Marty tune.
Off with their heads🗣️👉🐱😼
Take the a/c clutch off, replace with custom bracket for turbo. Custom duct work obviously.....it works
Thanks Super J. If you don't already follow my channel, I have a 2003 GMG also that I lifted and put 31's on it. That's the car we're turboing. Along with other "stuff". Thanks for watching bud!
Will deleting the rear cats pop an check engine light
Not yet! 😂
If you're going to do an exhaust do it right don't half ass it. I put cat back duels with Flowmaster FXs on my 02 Marquis
That’s exactly what it did only magnaflow!
I have a 2003 Marauder and am also thinking of removing the rear converters.
Unless your have emissions testing I definitely recommend it!
OCG - Olde Carr Guy Thanks
I'm about to put a turbo on in this weekend.
Also you need to get in touch with marty ochs. He can put a tune together and really wake that marauder up.
Dang....i got excited for a second. No boost = 😢.
Yet! Patience young grasshopper!
I vote to leave the engine stock, and install a 5 speed manual. Lol
Somehow i felt you would have something to say about that! LOL! At this point i'm thinking a manual might be cheaper!....... lol
Would a five speed b better tho ?
I said the same thing. Get a manual transmission and fix the gears
@@jacquancotton1835
Manual trans, with 4.10 gears would be a solid foundation to build on, but also boring.
Jason is looking for a "thumbnail video" that will get 1M views, and get him a 100K Play Button.
I don't blame him either. lol

Where can you get a throttle body spacer?
Hey! Neil! Thanks for subscribing! I got mine on eBay! Here’s the link: rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F322839117231
What kinda rims or those
18" off of a 2011 Ford Mustang. Thanks for watching.
Also, you wont have to swap the header panel and headlights if you find a mercury because they are different.
glad i'm not the only one that calls them "grandma".
What does the throttle spacer do?
Hey Sam! I did a video on that! Check it out:
INSTALLING A BLACK PATH RACING THROTTLE BODY SPACER ON MY 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS th-cam.com/video/MPVTLt1MYFM/w-d-xo.html
how do you get 23-24mpg??? I get 19 highway on mine
Steady speeds on the highway, like 65-70. Proper tire inflation. Not driving it like a hotrod! lol
@@OldeCarrGuy well.. that may or may not be my issue haha
Really enjoyed this video!!!! Those cars will scream when done right
Here's hoping! Thanks Corey!
I good tune up can make your car run better with some shell 93 gas.
A good tune up always helps but higher octane doesn't necessarily make your car run better, just cost more at the pump. And with todays gas prices, I'll be pumping in the regular fuel that the car was intended to run.
Should have put an exhaust cutout between the cats
I’m thinking that may be next!
How many miles are on Grand Ma ?..
130-ish
Still single exhaust?
No sir! Duals with H-Pipe!
Nice off a crown vic? But hey I own an 03 MGM with duals and a h-pipe off a crown vic. I went with thrush welded mufflers and kept all 4 cats. Sounds good and not too loud.
Can u do a video on how to change the spark plug wires on your mercury to help me out?
I’ll add it to the list! Thanks for the idea! Oh wait, you said wires! I see what you did there!
Those rims. Where'd you get them
2011 Mustang-18”
Nope not yet!👍🍻
Yet!!!!
I got duals that come out in front of the rear wheels on each side
Ahh! The hot rod look! Nice!
You should see if you can find a panther center cap for your rims lol
Let me know if you find anything! lol
@@OldeCarrGuy I will. That would sexy though.
One hour later, from spogebob cartoon.🤣
Dude why did you talk over the best part of the video with the open exhaust?
Unfortunately my microphone cut out and I had explained that before I showed that in the video! Sorry!
@@OldeCarrGuy it's ok just don't let it happen again
All you need to do is a gear swap to 3.73. You won’t think about the cost after your first test drive. I promise. That’s the path to the fountain of youth for grandma.
You maybe right. Thanks for watching.
J mod that transmission in 20 minutes. That's the best mod you can do to these. Makes the transmission last well above 200k
Awesome video! Keep em coming! Maybe look into a off road X pipe exhaust. No cats. And the cold air intake would really make a difference. Ya Bubbly
I already have a new "H" pipe, the cat pipe is easy to remove so thats what I'll do!
You do that was just offering a bit of advise. The X pipe flows 100% better then the "H" pipe and makes a loader sound witch is what I though you was looking for.
I do want louder, but tolerable!
I appreciate the advice!
They are sound clips here on TH-cam so you can hear the difference.
OK Larry! Thanks for the critique!
Need to start a go fund me page to get poor Grand Ma a turbo or supercharger
You want to head that up for me??? lol
Sounds good you can hear a big difference but it's still not loud enough😅
We're gonna try out some different mufflers in the spring! Thanks for watching!
I thought $250 sounded awfully low. Yea don't spend too much money on the ole gal, but you should let your self splurge on one good $350 part or something. Skip the throttle body spacer and put the money towards a good intake manifold...or ignore and do whatever you want with your car! Haha
Haha! I still think there’s some life left in her! I’ll increase the budget a bit and see where my bang for buck is!
@@OldeCarrGuy that's what I like to hear! I was looking at intake manifold earlier, and I think your stocker might be closer to one of the better produced anyway. Maybe porting it would be the perfect budget approach for the ole gal
Flowmaster 40’s or flowmaster 10’s
Another great Grandma video!! Nice choice on the center cap....Looking forward to the next chapter😊👍
Thanks Man! I really wanted Mercury caps, but couldn't bring myself to pay the ridiculous price !
I lucked out and got a nice set of used ones, a little mothers polish and I was good to go😊
Buy a different car if the panther platform 4.6 doesn't suit you. The bullet proof daily driver is what it is. If you want a sleeper , install a coyote or LS motor. Blowing up a 4.6 is a waste of time. Let it go.
Thanks for the advice on this 5 year old video!
Very interesting video, enjoyed it, very informative thanks.
Thanks Simon! Glad you liked it!
Never knew they made a H.O 4.6 mustang lol
Lol! They’re all H.O. Dude! Lol
There is no better intake then the factory intake.
I'll keep that in mind!
@@OldeCarrGuy the only intake that works better that the performance improved plastic is the aluminum bullit intake. Which makes 7 hp over the plastic intake.
They also run fo a gnote used.
Not really budget hp ehh.
Nitrous nitrous lol
I took my muffler off and my Car move Felt Slower..
Believe it or not, you’re car’s engine needs the back pressure a muffler creates in the exhaust to perform at its optimum!
@uhチュンチュンマル yea
You can get 3.73 gears out of a 5.0 explorer from junkyard
4.10s also
Yes. But I still want to cruise with the car and not stop at every gas station. It’s a daily driver after all.
@@OldeCarrGuy my 3.73 didmt really hit my milage that much. Not enough to be noticed anyway they dont turn to high rpm on the freeway either
Headers maybe?
Maybe in time!
Need new intake too. Dorman is on it now!!! Boo😢
shoulda sold those cats up here they go for about $100 ea and used the $ to straight pipe her and get some more parts
Hindsight! Maybe next time!
throttle body spacers dont do anything for fuel injected cars. dont waste your money on it.
Thanks for commenting, watching and subscribing!
Should do open headers lol
I don’t think I would go that far, But I definitely do think I want to upgrade the mufflers is already! 😂
I don’t even need to watch this to answer the question.
Obviously needs a turbo.
Not sure?
Everything needs a turbo! lol
Then why do you have a video titled putting a turbo on a 2004 grand marquis if you think it is too expensive.
Mostly to drive conversation in the chat. Maybe someone knows of a cheaper way to do it? Thanks for watching!
Theres Platinum in them there catalytic converters.
Yip! That's why they are pricey!
I absolutely hate the fact that you call this car "grandma" because they're really the last "REAL" cars left I personally look at them as cool ass grown man cars they're a mix of luxury, muscle, style, speed and comfortability!!! I owna 2006 GS and her name is Mercy!! And we would appreciate it if you put some respect on her and her sister's names please and thank you sir.
Put a chip in it?
There are tunes you can get for these cars. Already looked into it!
Supercharger.
$$$$$$
Just remove catalyst converters and straight pipe it
I bet it sounds amazing!
Cool
Thanks Mawmaw
Your trapezoidal beard screams untrustworthy. Your choice in parts confirms my suspicions
So I'm untrustworthy because you are insecure with your ability to watch a TH-cam video for entertainment purposes? Thanks for watching though!
MY MERCURY MARQUIS GS HAS 318000 MILES. IF I DO ALL THIS WORK TO MY CAR. IT'LL PROBABLY TAKE A POOP. NO THANKS. GOOD LUCK.
Haha! You could be right! Thanks for watching!
Just get a tourqe amp electric turbo 2500 bucks 5 boost 😄
There we go! Why not! Cleetus made one work!
