I don't have to have children, wear makeup, or high heels to feel like I'm a woman. These things don't make us women.

I have no idea how I stumbled onto this video, and at first I felt sympathy for you explaining the hard ships of what trans women go through being unable to have children, up until you said you feel more like a woman than an actual genetic woman.
    Stop. Right. There.
If you want to be accepted as a woman, that’s fine! That’s great. If that in your heart is what you think you are then, okay! But, that doesn’t give you the right to think you’re better than any other woman because you “feel” it.
    No no no no.
Women have unspoken sisterhoods, and that is something you will never be able to understand. We bleed for decades of our lives, suffer through immense pain of being able to bear children and dread our bodies not cooperating when we are pregnant and it not being viable. But you wanna make a little fast comment like that thinking it’s okay? No. Making comments like that will never get you accepted. It’s unfortunate that you will never be able to bear your own children and I’m sorry, I truly am, but I feel like the last thing you need in your life at the moment is a baby when you have so much more maturing as a woman to do.
It’s not about nice makeup, beautiful hair, a perfect body and the perception that you are not a woman without having a child.
Stop. Please learn that ignorantly spreading comments like that are not what being a woman is about.

    Two things.
    1. You weren't born with "working parts", but there are many women who were born with the parts but they don't work either. You have no right to play the victim and act like you had it worse when you chose to get rid of your working parts for parts that you foreknew would not work.
    2. Having a child isn't meant to be for YOURSELF. You say that having a child will make you feel more feminine. That's a problem. That's what's wrong with our culture today. People have children for all the wrong reasons. If you want to have a child to 'hold your own DNA', you're having a child for the wrong reason.

      1) Did you not watch the video? She was born with male genitalia and has not undergone gender reassignment surgery. So... I don't understand where the 'you chose to get rid of your working parts' statement comes from.
      2) Can you illuminate me on the 'right' or 'wrong' reasons to have a child? And how we would go about enforcing that in society?

    • @PlayfulFruitLPer
      @PlayfulFruitLPer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Your first point is completely objective, but point 2 is fine and correct.
Having 'working' MALE parts is not pertinent to the issue. As a female, she feels less whole being unable to have a child. Don't invalidate that pain just because it's a consequence of being her authentic self, that's ridiculous. Yes cis women can be infertile, yes their pain sucks. To say she can't talk about her issues just because there are cis people out there with it leads one to believe trans issues are less valid.
Think before you write, thank you.

Of course that's great to say but a lot of women do feel like less of a woman if they can't physically give birth to their own children. I think it's better to be honest about your feelings. Sort of how when you think you're ugly but your friend tells you you're beautiful. It's nice to hear but it doesn't take the feelings away unfortunately.

@@brittagrant From what I've read in most of the comments I believe that people are mad that Gigi only briefly brushed the fact that some natural women go through some of the same things. For example not being able to get pregnant at all or the struggle that you feel when you're trying to get pregnant and it's not happening. There is also a lot of anger over Gigi saying she feels like more of a woman than natural women. That's the quote that's being thrown around. It's not actually a word for word quote, but it is how her words were interpreted. I don't think anyone is wrong for feeling a certain way about anything, but I also understand that Gigi has not been a natural women and she can only tell the story from her point of view. Different walks different talk is what I boils down to, I think.
Edit: Forgot to add/make clear that the brush over made people feel like they were being overlooked and Gigi was ignoring the fact that natural women can and do also have these struggles. Therefore putting down us down and making us feel less than. Personally, I think it's a little ridiculous that people are acting like the video is a hate crime. It's not that bad and it shares a point of view on these things that's from somewhere that I, at the very least, haven't heard before.

Ana Enrici, I don't think Gigi always articulates what she means in the best way. She obviously just deeply wishes that she were able to give birth to a baby herself. I do not think her views qualify as being misogynistic. More like a bad choice of wording. The reality is that society still associates womanhood with the ability to give birth. Obviously that is not our role or our only role in life. I don't have children and I'm in my late 30's. But I think people jump on Gigi for anything she says anymore and it seems to be expressly because she is a transgender woman. Transmen don't seem to get all the hate and negativity directed at them.

what is your role in life then? from a biological stand point all organisms live to reproduce, all our adaptations and features were handpicked through hundreds of thousands of years of natural selection in order to survive, and survive long enough to reproduce, that is literally the point. the reason men are even attracted to big buts and big boobs are actually because these are qualities for child bearing and raising, big child bearing hips big fatty breasts, it's literally instinct for men to be attracted to women for these qualities so they can give birth to a child.

I think is really surprising that she wasn't told that before she went on hormones. From what I have heard it common to ask people if they want to freeze their sperm before starting on hormones because it highly likely they will become sterile after a while.

There are MANY trans woman who understand that women are not just periods, baby makes, and the rest of the misogynistic views that men have tagged us with. You are emphasizing this being a trans trait when actually this is more of a "Hollywood" and wanting to be "Famous" trait. You can't take these people like Gigi or Caitlyn Jenner or the majority of trans woman on TH-cam wanting fame and put them as what all TRANS woman are like...Because there are a lot of us who don't follow this awful stereotype that people like you seem to have pinned against us, to bring the good ones down along with the bad.
*Don't get it twisted because there are trans woman out there putting in work and being a strong powerhouse for WOMEN!!!*

Operational Energy is the energy required for training, moving, and sustaining military forces and weapons platforms for military operations. First openly transgender woman U.S. Presidential appointee...
Victoria Kolakowski - is an American lawyer, and, since January 2011, judge of the Alameda County Superior Court. Kolakowski is the first openly transgender person to serve as a trial court judge of general jurisdiction in the United States, the first elected to a judgeship, and the first to serve as any type of judge in California. She has won many awards from being a successful hard working woman since the 90's!!
Andrea Jenkins - is an American policy aide, politician, writer, performance artist, poet, and transgender activist. She is known for being the first African-American openly transgender woman elected to public office in the United States, serving since January 2018 on the Minneapolis City Council. This woman returned to college to finish her bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State University, which she followed by earning two master's degrees-an MFA in creative writing from Hamline University and an MS in community economic development from Southern New Hampshire University. All during the 90's as well.
Please do some ACTUAL research and studies on the history of transgender individuals. Don't just blindly follow and assume what is more prevalent on social media to be true for all. Stop spreading this awful narrative that gives trans women like me a harder time, who are just trying to live a normal life and be successful enough to do some good in this world...

I am sorry you saying "I feel as much if not more so than a genetic woman," is so far from the truth. Genetic women are women period. You are genetically speaking a male, but you identify as a woman, therefore you are a trans-gendered female, so do not say that you are more woman than a born woman because that is simply not true! And as far as the pregnancy thing goes even though you can't get pregnant physically you can get your fiance pregnant since you still have all your plumbing.

I don't think that she is trying in any way to undermine us "biological women": we are lucky to identify ourselves with the biological sex we were born with. What I think she is trying to convey is that she feels a woman, her brain knows that she is one (not to be too nerdy but try and look at "gender dysphoria" for a better explanation of the concept) and yet she is denied a (very important) feature that females in nature possess, that is the ability of conceiving and giving birth. She is saying that, like many biological women, she is dealing with infertility, since she wants to get pregnant and give birth herself and she knows that at this moment and time in history this is just not possible: try and imagine the frustration of wanting something so badly and not even have the basic means to achieve it. An infertile woman might have viable eggs or a viable uterus, thus opening the possibility (for some, not all) of surrogacy or eggs donation: she has neither, so she really is feeling the impossibility of it all and it must be maddening.

I was born a woman and still identify as such. But I would never say that Gigi or anyone else who is transgender (M to F) is any less of a woman. This video wasn't a scripted one, I don't think- so I'm sure she didn't mean that she's "More of a woman than a born female"....I think she meant it as she felt more like a woman than she expected- that she fully knows she was always meant to be a woman. I mean think about it, we are born into these bodies and just take it for granted. We know we're born as females but we might not know what it truly means until we grow up. As for giving birth-- I think she said how she tried with her fiance to get pregnant and it wasn't working. So they're going to a clinic to try to see what the issue is and maybe they'll do a surrogate birth mother with their egg/sperm.

there are hundreds of children all over the world desperate for a home, the fact she cant produce one is difficult of course but she needs to be realistic and be thankful she is living in a country that excepts her for who she is and that she has rights in. the fact that people in the lgbt community can have/adopt children is only really a fairly modern concept within law as with unmarried people so things are as best as they are going to be for the foreseeable future in that field. in regards to the whole her producing an actual child in her own womb etc. I think that is wrong. hormones can be harmful to fetus and can cause all sorts of problems, plus the most likely thing is that her body may reject the womb. In recent science there has been womb transplants done with successful pregnancies but I believe that there is a fine line to how far you can go. there is also the fact that going through reassignment already is traumatising and painful, there is months to years of recovery, and she wants to mess that up by birthing? like really?

So I approached this vid with an open mind... I'm old and of a generation that didn't talk about gender being fluid etc. I'm confused as to why you say you have been "trying" with your cis partners cycle, yet find it so difficult to talk about sperm! You have an active intimate relationship and by your own admission, have penetrative sex. I can only assume pregnancy isn't happening either quick enough or at a convenient time for you both, hence the clinic visit. Well, this old gal has to jump in and say that life doesn't always stick to a schedule and pregnancy can either happen on the first go, take years or never happen at all.
My last issue is with you saying at the end you want a bio child so you can "look into their blue eyes and at their blonde hair"....again, mother nature doesn't abide by your rules. I have green eyes and my partner has piercing blue eyes yet all three of our bio kids have dark brown eyes...a throwback to a previous generation! Will you be disappointed if your child isn't a 'mini me' with your features?
I'm loathe to say this, as I'm still learning a lot about trans issues and gender issues...but maybe you need counselling first with someone familiar with trans issues because you come across as slightly naive when it comes to having children. It does sound like you see them as a validation of your acquired femininity and an accessory. Apologies if I'm wrong and I sincerely wish you the best life you can live.

Gigi I've watched you for years, and even if I'm proud of your transition and your journey I have to say I really don't think you have quite grasped what being a woman really is. You have the most one dimensional and stereotypical idea of what makes you a woman, it's kinda sad. Being not fertile or not able to have kids doesn't make one less of a woman. That goes for both trans and cis women. The reality is you were born a male and under no circumstances will you ever be able to get birth, and you've always known that. You're a trans woman and should be proud, and not try to do things just to prove to people how much of a female you are. That's where you go wrong. Be yourself, not the woman stereotype you think people need to see.
