Author Media Kit Creation Tips

- Author media kits are an incredibly powerful part of your book marketing package as an author. Even if you aren't trying to land television media appearances and radio spots, your media kit can be used to get bookstore distribution, attract corporate partnerships, and generally just establish your credibility as a professional author. Of course, the next question is what do you need in your author media kit, and how do you create one?

My experience as a graphic designer came in really handy for this. My media kit (yes it's done before the book is) is straight FIRE.

Thanks, Julie, this is all useful info. I've done EPF before for short films I made but hadn't thought to do one for my books.
That should be EPK, of course. You speak of a link to your picture download - might a QR code be useful on print versions as it saves the recipient inputting the URL?
I would do a QR Code AND a URL ... amazing how many people still don't know what to do with a QR Code

Great tips! Do you have a video for Press Releases? Trying to decide how to request to get an interview for radio and TV. I've drafted the letters/emails, but want to make sure it's the right approach.

I'm a little confused. When do you send it along with the press release and when do you not? Great post!
We don't typically write a press release - just a short couple of sentence pitch in an email.
what if an author has more than one book should a media kit be made for each one? Also when lauching a book can you launch more than one at the same time or is it best to do one at a time? Thank you great video
If the audience and core message are different for the books then yes promote them separately. If they are reaching the same audience you can put them all together.

Would speaking experience be a good thing to put in the bio part?
Yes - certainly if the audience is relevant to the topic of your book.
How many pages should the presskit be? Also, why wouldn't you include a thumbnail of your book cover?
Ours are 4-6 pages. The book cover is on the front of the press kit.
