Gil Telvanni, The Mage. Correct. But some self-identified Christians follow Christ in heretical or impudent ways. Thus, they cannot be called proper Christians. Mormons, for example, who don’t believe in the Trinity, or Fundamentalists, who don’t believe in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, a particular variation of which this work was written for... Yes, Christianity is **simply** following Jesus, but what that entails isn’t so simple and many great saints have devoted their lives to working out what those two **simple** words means. For example, St. Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologica is a massive unfinished multi-volume tomb devoted to those two **simple** words.
If you don’t believe that Christ becomes flesh and sheds his blood during every single mass throughout the world for all time, and you don’t regularly go there to witness and celebrate it, can it really be said that you “follow Christ”?
I completely agree. Sacred music like this is for everyone, and it can mean something different for every person listening. The great thing about the language of music is that we can all "speak" it and understand it, whether we speak in Music Theory terms, or not.... :-)
I must have listened to this dozens of times, but that bit just before the end at 1:16:00, where the soprano voice comes soaring in over the hushed chorus: "liiiiberrraaaaa me, domine... liiiiberrraaaaa me, domine..." still gives me goosebumps every time I hear it!
Dear Brilliant Classics, Many Thanks For This Fine Upload. I love Sacred Music specially just about anything composed by Verdi. He was an awesome and amazing composer in more ways than one. This Music is so serene and calming even if you do not know Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Saviour. Sacred Music such as this should be promoted a lot as it is not often one gets to hear this Music specially from the Neck of The Woods where I am from that is namely India. Verdi's Requiem is a Precious Jewel and in this 21st Century that we live in it is much needed as an awesome "Stress Buster" which it truly is. Please continue to provide us with awesome music such as this. A Big Reason I appreciate Sacred Music is because not too long ago I was a Trappist Monk in Formation in a Trappist Monastery in the US South in the State Of Georgia. For Lunch and Supper the Monks use to play a Selection of all kinds of Sacred Music specially Gregorian Chant. Verdi's Requiem and Mozart's Requiem was often played at Lunch Time. I no longer live in the USA but still dig this Music as you can see.

I remember way back in 1968 to 69 at Lovers Lane, Steubenville, Ohio often listening to VERDI's REQUIEM played by the phonograph on that USAFA-Like Student DESK, called The BANK or bank desk, where cash was saved for spring plantings outside, etc. That was long ago. The only mYSTERY that remained was that 1940s era RED BOOK of PROPHECIES and PREDICTIONS, by WING ANDERSON, a contemporary of JOHn GILLISPIE MAGEE Junior. Well, what is so Enigmatic about that? THE DYER DEVICE: MORTPM CICA AE MOICA that was Hand Wriiten on 2 Blank Pages within Its Pages! Riddle-Like like MENE MENE TEKEL UPHARSIN! This is very Difficult to Explain the Enormous Effect It had on the completely Separate LC Constitution-Code of The 9th Year of 1972, that had no connection whatsoever with that Student Desk imitation of USAFA'S Cadewt Student Desks there! It totally BROKE DOWN the Entirety of the original ALBERTUS CODE of "LEGES CLAMO LEGES CLAMAMUS into The TWILIGHT ZONE of Its Teleological END!
near the start of the second movement, there is a woman who is a bit too loud . her voice is amazing, but she is singing like she is a soloist, in this perticular scenario, she should be treating it more like a team player, and try to blend in more. the power of that segment comes from the booming, sudden presence of everyone's voice and hers stands out too much

An exciting, magnificent performance. Just imagine sitting in a concert hall and letting this music wash over you.
It was truly amazing I heard it performed in Cincinnati a couple years back
Was there, done it...last year in October or November in Munich. Stunning perfomance it was, one of the moments in my life.
I once sang in a chorus as a tenor covering this piece. It was quite an amazing time in my life.
imagine hearing this for the first time live.
imagine singing with the orchestra, next to the drums and feeling everything through the wooden floor you´re standing on
Real shit
@@sophieroder9566I played the violin part and just let me tell you CHILLS went thru my bones
Verdi's obviously been playing some Dark Souls
Berlioz Te Deum "Judex Crederis" is also powerful.
Maravillosa obra , excelente coro y orquesta, Verdi un gran compositor 🎼🎶❤

Excellent work.....amazing.....definitely, Verdi is one of the best composers in the classic world Thanks for uploading.
Todas estas obras son una delicias para el buen gusto de la gente de lo refinado de estas obras gracias puébla México
I do love those Requiems. Thanks for the upload.
Thank you for this! I am not Christian but you don't have to be one to appreciate sacred music :)
Be a Christian does not mean appreciate any music or any fine church structure, my dear. To be a Christian it simply means to follow Jesus.

Alyosha Karamazov do you think god would prefer you pray to his saints or his mother, who has been dead for a very long time? Rather than god himself?

Why did they stop making beautiful music?
Lack of fantasy, lack of taste, lack of god.
People still make beautiful music. I guess it's all up to taste.

No it's just the name of the piece. The requiem is made of four separate pieces (My assumption): Requiem, Dies Irae, Offertorium, & Libera Me.
