Thanks for the second review mate! Glad you like the watch! ❤
I was over the moon when I received my Origin in yellow. As TTT mentioned, it ticks all the boxes and is very comfortable on either the amazing bracelet or the rubber strap. The fact that he flew over to China to inspect the production is amazing. Certainly gave me reassurance the product was being produced by professionals. Now I can't wait to see what Erebus will be releasing next. Thanks TTT for a great and honest review!
I went overboard with this diver. Lol. I bought the red, black, blue and teal versions. Wore the red on a recent trip to the Bahamas. Nice design and colors, very legible and wore very comfortably. I'll mix up wearing the colors and have them on metal, nato and the super comfortable FKM rubber strap. A spec monster for the price. Thanks Jody (and partner.)
I have the blue dial version and love it. I sometimes work in the office and sometimes in the field, so this watch is a no-brainer for me!
Gonna Schwartzkopf this with a Spaghetti Scameti.
Had this been available a year ago when I got my Helm Vanuatu, I would have seriously considered it. The Vanuatu has 30ATM vs. the Erebus 20ATM, but since there's a 99.9% chance that I'll never in my life be more than 30 feet underwater, that's purely academic...bragging rights only. I think if you want the "hard core tool watch" vibe, you need to go with the Helm, but if you're willing to trade off a bit of that "hard-coreness" in exchange for a little more style, the Erebus is the winner. Either way, it's amazing the quality of watch you can get these days for $300 or less if you know where to look. Both watches would cost at least $500 more if they had "Seiko" or "Citizen" stamped on them.
I love mine! Only complaint, while I like the bracket overall, it’s literally sharp on the edges of the links. I like it far better on the rubber straps. They’re SUPER comfortable!
I have both the black dial and the blue dial versions and both on a bracelet, love these watches.
I grabbed a red one. LOVE the red dial. The bracelet was a bit grabby at first, pulling hairs out of my arm for a couple days for some reason. I really like the easily adjustable clasp. I didn't have to do anything with links like some watches, I've got a bit bigger wrist. And the red dial is great. I've been wearing it almost exclusively for the past week or two since getting it. And the red dial gets comments and I LOVE it. Did I mention the red dial? :)
I really didn't like this watch initially, but every time I see it it grows on me.
Just buy one already! I have a teal and it is fantastic. Wears very well and is super legible. I was at IWC in Vegas in March and wore it. Got some nice compliments on it. Good praise amongst giants. : )
I went a little crazy and got the red dial. It's a wonderful timepiece and the reason I didn't go black dial, was that I already have a Helm Vanuatu and there is just not the room in my collection for two similar style watches. The Red dial is a lovely point of difference and I have to say, this must be close to being the best dive watch under $300. Also, kudos to you Jory. I always love your reviews but this particular review must have been a bit of a high wire act (Jody is such a fab reviewer and seems a nice bloke). For what it is worth, I think you hit the balance perfectly.
The red's the one I'd get if I was gonna
I really like my origin. The bezel action is amazing, the matte ceramic looks great, and the lume is top notch. My one complaint is that the bracelet (I got the curved h link) is pretty sharp on the edges. Not so much to actually hurt me, but enough that my dad, a retired watchmaker, noticed. I intend to do a little light sanding to address it, then it’s really gonna be comfy
Great video, Jory and a very impressive debut from Erebus. Of course, anyone who has followed the JOMW channel and has seen how Jody goes about his business - whether it's producing great watch content or the dedication it has taken to complete his studies - knows that he would apply the same effort to his new venture. 👍
Orange is my favorite color and I didn’t yet have a watch with an orange dial so this was a no brainer and supports Jody’s first effort at the same time. Wishing success and calming nerves now that the launch is in full swing.
I’ve had my black one a month and at this price, it’s a no brainer. All the specs are there. One thing people bring up is the NH35 movement but they regulate them at the factory, mine runs at +1 sec per day!
It's just an OEM dropshipping product manufactured in China with components sourced wherever, depending on what you can afford and what end user price you're aiming for. Just pick a base model, some specs and send them your logo. A few months later you're the proud owner of a 'watch brand' and your customers can decide if they prefer McDonald's over Burger King (in this case it doesn't matter , they come from the same factory) Yeah, I'm not having it any longer. No more microbrands for me.
This looks exactly like the Zelos swordfish. The case shape is the same, looks like a very similar bracelet and even the black dial is like the Zelos. Are all these types of watches made by the same factory and just re branded?
100%
I have the blue on blue one, and I LOVE it. Luke Jody said, it's a safe first model to launch. The bezel action is incredible, lume is top notch, and I like the design.
Mine's a purple dial. The lume is great and the curved H-link bracelet, while a bit sharp edged, is super comfortable. Like other owners I find it easier to live with than many others in my collection.
I've been very happy with my blue Erebus Origin. I've tried it with all the straps in the strap pack and reverted to the bracelet. Looks better and is very comfortable. I get the references others have made to Sinn and Pelagos, and that's why I bought it. There are some minor niggles, yes, but not enough to stop me recommending one. However, I've got two San Martin's and I have to say they both feel better quality in the details than the Origin. And for $100 less too. I've just ordered a Seestern 600T homage in orange to compare both with. Final comment - I have just received a green Berny AM339M and I am simply blown away by it ! Amazing quality, original design (at least I can't find anything that 'inspired' it, brilliant lume and the perfect size and weight. And all for $80 I'm the sale. It really is a bargain. I just might have to get the blue and black versions, as that would be $140 cheaper for two watches than buying the black origin.
Love my Purple Origin. Noticed a few comments on the sharp edges of the h-braclet, not t noticed that myself but the edges of the clasp are a bit sharp. That said, I only notice after a full day wearing and the watch is fantastic. Its their 1st release, so will benefit from feedback to go back to the factory for watch #2
Just noticed the clasp and clasp mechanism appear to be exactly the same as on the San Martin I'm currently wearing. Gotta love the on-the-fly adjustability.
Such a perfect watch. I picked up the Red watch with the Flat link bracelet. Incredible
Love mine !
Take a purple, take a red, take a blue, take a black: the hands have a white surrounded an look much bigger. The H-Link bracelet has a sharp outer edge and there is a tiny gap between crown and case. But get used to it. I dress up every day, so I can waer the Origin!
I’ve had mine for a month or so now and it’s great! I’d probably change a couple small things (maybe add a chapter ring, and make a green dial option) but that’s about it. I’m debating on whether to buy another one with the other bracelet, or potentially wait to see what the next offerings they have are.
New offering is out now, and it’s a banger.
Got the black and yellow and my only complaint is that the bezel isnt black. It's like a very dark bluish grey. Looks black on photos and at a distance on wrist, but you see the blue/grey shade when you take a closer look
I haven't taken mine off since I got it. I really like it. Glad you do too.
Genuinely a good watch for the money. I’ve got the yellow on the rubber strap and it wears really well. 👍
Jokes aside, it’s a legit good watch. I have an orange dial Erebus and it’s better than I had expected 👍🏻👍🏻
In the video, you said that the blue dialed watch was for sale. My question is why did you sell the black dialed watch? I thought you liked it?
I bought one to support Jody. Good first watch
Leather on a diver is crazy. Give me the bracelet!
It’s a boss move, you wouldn’t get it
no one that spends any time in the water wears a leather strap on their dive watch, but it's a great way to identify rugged indoorsmen
@@Dirtywesterner😂😂
My main issues are those crown guards that seem too large.
My Erebus arrived two days afer my loooooooooooong awaited Helm Komodo (almost thee years). Honestly between the two of them there isn't much. I would have opted for an oyster style bracelet on the Erebus, but that's just me.
Great review and fair. Love my teal dial Origin.
Nice review man
Love this watch and i love JOMW
Got the orange. Mostly positive incl great lume, but crown not the dream described here: no pop on unscrew and provides two, not one, positions to adjust the date. Guessing got unlucky but does seem weird
I have yet to see any watch channel give any other watch channels review of that channels own watch anything but a good review!. It just amounts to you each giving yourselves a a big pat on the back saying "aren't we all wonderful, everything er do is amazing"
I desperately wish Jody saw Jory's second TH-cam channel before he sent him a watch.
Black is definitely the winner!
Very nice looking. Very unique look. I love it!!!
Great video as usual
Jody did it right with this watch, as you would expect coming from a watch guy who has seen hundreds of watches.
It's too big and heavy for me. But I wish Jody and his partner all the best. Takes a lot of money to start a watch company with prototypes, and probably other expenses.
I'm a tad surprised they didn't do a standard 40-20, but I suppose it's not far off
Rubber strap definitely helps
For me it’s the logo. I do not like circular logos. The rest of the watch looks fine.
I’m with you I really hope his brand is successful....but this is just too chunky, I’m not a huge dive watch fan but to me the hands and indices are a bit ugly😢
@@pizzagogo6151how do you like the new one coming?
Yes, great watch. Got my orange version back in February but I do have some "moans and niggles" though. They are Very minor but... the screwdriver provided did not fit the screws, it was too wide. And the FKM strap does not match the depictions on their website. Comfy, but not the same. Again, very minor things but trying to be honest.
I like the blue and black offerings.
Jodys done a great job of this piece that i cannot deny But.. if i had a choice of a Helm Vanuatu or this Erebus it would be the Helm....
When do you expect to have some of the gray dial on this new watch that you talked about today?
Really enjoy both you and Jody’s channels. As an owner of some 20 entry level watches, what’s my exit watch?
I love the price, I’m getting the purple one. It’s rare you see a purple dial diver
The Origin seems like a good value if uninspired diver. My issue is whether I can trust Jody 's reviews on similar watches now that he competes with them. Case in point, I bought the Momentum Sea Quartz he reviewed. While not a perfect watch(very good though), the lume lasts all-night on both bezel and dial and almost matches my Seiko Monster. Jody claimed it was merely ok and showed it fading quickly. It makes me wonder...
Get the 38mm, lovely watch. Current fav.
Hahahaha you’ve left the caseback plastic on like me!
White dial, bracelet, love it. Almost as much as my Exciton II
I purchased a black one and have had it for about a month. The design is great. I think it looks better than a Tudor Pelagos and that’s an appealing watch. The quality overall is very good.
However, I find myself not wearing this watch much, I want to but it feels big and bulky. It wears bigger than the dimensions.
I don’t like the bracelet. I got the flat link and I think it is better than the other but it doesn’t drape down 100% at the lugs; adding to the lug to lug.
The lume is bright and long lasting but it is blotchy. It’s functional but not uniform and doesn’t look good.
Overall; it’s a good watch but I don’t enjoy wearing it and I want to wear it.
Just my opinion of the Origin.
you just did a watch review in a couple of sentences. and a good one too!
Lol, Thank you; it wasn’t my intention but I watch a lot of reviews. Lol
I put this watch on everyday. I want to wear it. I like the look. But I end up wearing it for 10-15 mins and then switching to the SKX, Kamasu, SWC bunker or Sea Quartz. These watches have larger dimensions in certain areas but all wear much better. I tried a few straps on the Origin but it still wears big. I’m really trying to enjoy it.
As mentioned the lume… it seems to video and photograph better than in person. Not sure if anyone else notices the botches or if I got a weird one. The lume seems muted in areas but it is functional and last a while.
I’m not giving up on it yet. The design is nice and build quality minus the uneven lume are good.
Hey Jory what are your opinions on the Bernus ultra deep? Worth it ?
Come on dude, "get down to business" for real! Its obvious that the design is from Helm Vanuatu and brand name from Farer (Erebus watch series) (and they are not even transparent about it. looking like how a typical aliexpress brand claims how a copy is an "homage" lol). And for how much of a watch "enthusiasts" the founder and designer claims they are this watch is worse than any AliExpress watches. Just a typical cash grab for a youtuber with a relatively big following.
Its very cool but im on a Unimatic mission atm, great to see you both you guys doing well,I had forgotton you were a Wookie, 7.5 ? wow
Looking at this again, it does have a hint of Sinn about it, doesn't it? I do like that H-link. The case is a bit angular for my tastes, but I can see the design decision is valid.
These look so solid and I love most of what’s offered. But definitely nothing groundbreaking sadly.
Not a fan of the square markers but that thing looks fine and very legit. If the markers were round, I'd already be ordering mine.
Aesthetically subjective, but the function is genius to me. The way the minute hand seamlessly lines up. You can easily see if you are a minute/seconds behind or ahead, or when you are right on the marker.
Great watch! Well done Jody!
Why does it need drilled lugs when it has a quick release bracelet…?
For easier strap changes when not using the bracelet
@@ChrisM752 Why wouldn’t you just use quick release leather straps, or quick, release spring bars for NATOs? I hear they are all the rage these days!
@@JJL206 plenty newer ones do but there’s also lots that don’t so drilled lugs makes it easier for more ppl.
The “office” is his mailbox 🤣
I really enjoy mine I kinda wish I got a Phoibos Leviathan though
The more I hear about the origin the more I want one. Like everything about it just need to save my pennies and hope I can save enough before they ho up in price!
I like Jody, he shows me a ton of watches.
Thanks for stopping the bezel turn at something other than top dead 12.
Unfortunately it looks too much like the helm Vanuatu
The fart noise took me out 😂
The black color way gives me Empire diver’s vibes
I have a helm vanuatu titanium. Such a similar watch that I decided to pass. Great looking watch tho.
When the world needed another diver on steel bracelet, Erebus answered the call.
Unless you really like the design, it’s hard to consider all these micro brand watches made in China when you can get a San Martin with the same spec and materials for $100 less.
Dig the Music!
Personally, I think it's ugly, clunky, cumsy and lazy design. He only put this watch out because his partner, who is the money behind things, wanted this watch. Jodi actually would prefer the watch he just teased...an aqua terra type watch. THAT watch is gonna be good...this was a fail. Big fail...buy a san martin
Agreed! Hard to go wrong with this one for ~$300.
The Helm Komodo says hello.
@@KMV007 I think the Vanuatu more closely resembles the Origin. I just passed on my slot for the Miyako and probably going to to the same with the Khuraburi.
@@billwinter8386 I’ve been in the queue for the Komodo since last summer, still number 7500 😀
Mine is great.
Jody runs advertisements. He says it is an honest review, but would he pick those watches if he wasn't being paid? Now I am watching Jody's ads on another channel.
I want an orange one
Wearing the Orange Erebus right now. Picking orange was a gamble for me. I don’t normally wear bright colors and was worried I wouldn’t like it. Pictures VS Reality can sometimes differ. But I honestly love it. It is very easy to read even in lower light before the amazing lume kicks in. Great watch all around.
@@leopom78 Really appreciate your reply! I'm definitely convinced. Just waiting for the stock to come back or if I can find a used one.
It’s a shame it’s so like the Helm, which I have
When are you going to design and sell your own watches ⌚️
Most of divers TODAY are smaller than before. Most are 39, 40, 41mm. It is hard to find over 41mm nowdays for my over 8inch wrist.
I really with that Hour Hand wasn‘t so fat 🤣
Good spec and price - it’s just a shame it’s such a dull piece of design (no offence to Helm).
Its a lovely watch but the design is too boring for me. There are many competitors with similar designs at the same price point. Not sure how this stands out
No drilled lugs? One for the moans and niggle section 😂 Jody! What were you thinking? 😱 (I still love JOMW BTW ❤)
San Martin
TLDR:
An amazing watch for the price.
Have the Black and Blue love them both.
Lume is incredible.
My favourite watch reviewer on TH-cam is Sammie.
while the build quality looks excellent, this has to be one of the most generic flavor of the month divers i've ever seen, including the squared off Zelos edges. Jody's got to be one of the top most enjoyable reviewers (you're good too), but putting together great ingredients to bake a cake, and it turning out to be generic, shows there's more than analytics to creating something of desire. i wish his offerings to do well, but also to rise above the sum of their parts.
I absolutely love Jody's channel but I'm afraid this watch does nothing for me and I love Dive watches. I wish him luck though.
I wonder if anyone knows what Erebus means.
i dont remember, but Jody explains it in hjs first review of his own watch
Pagan god like Phoibos
The personification of darkness. You've got the internet at your fingertips.
Not for me.
Plus, not everybody loves Jody.
He can be a simple bully, if you dare challenge his opinion.
That’s my personal experience, I am not generalising.
But you can once in awhile check his comments section- it’s there.
I agree its a great watch, and he is a great guy, but it still sounds like "Ear Bats" to me....
I wish they didn’t name their brand after a Greek god of the Underworld. Pretty off putting. I’m sure there’s a market for that but not a widespread one.
I wish he would not have gone with a circular logo. I don’t know why but they just bugged me. Come off cheap. Lazy graphic design. Otherwise the watch looks great. Very small gripe.
Very similar to the Tudor fxd in the collection.
Maybe next time
Watch reviewers need to stay as watch reviewers. This surely took a lot to design, and it still looks like the most boring and generic diver i've seen. Everybody's a critic. Not everybody can design.
