    My periop program is 9 months ! I have the basics down so far but I’m having a hard time being confident in communicating with surgeons, anesthesia, and scrub techs 😔 I’m super shy which makes i harder

    There are hospitals that are now doing 3 months orientation- it's completely unsafe imo.

      Yeah my orientation in the OR was 4 months cause they assumed I started in the ambulatory center I have OR expierence. The ASC is soooo different that the hospital though

    Hi can you show us an example of a chart for a circulatory nurse

      I can probably make a mock chart and post it :)!

    Why does that hospital in the thumbnail look like new york presbyterian in queens? The red scrubs are exactly what i see in that hospital

      Not sure :/ Lots of Hospitals use the red! I hate it tbh haha

    How did you study for your periop101 exam? Is it a lot of memorizing? Did you only take notes from the online modules or something else? Thanks so much! I start next week :)

    • @nurseiveth5076
      @nurseiveth5076  ปีที่แล้ว

      So when you complete the modules there will be a section to print a study guide for that module you completed. I just studied those! I took small notes on things I thought were important for my own practice but as far as the exam just the study guides!

    are you at HSS? im a new grad still waiting to take the nclex, waiting for my att#..im in nyc and i think i may start applying to places but i really want to try to vet these places before working there lol

    • @nurseiveth5076
      @nurseiveth5076  ปีที่แล้ว

      Apply everywhere! Especially for OR positions you want to increase your chances of getting hired by applying to multiple hospitals/ surgery centers

    I’m a new grad going to my second interview in the OR soon. Fingers crossed I will get the job but I’m also getting married about three months after starting. Ofc this is something I’m going to bring up to them in the interview but do you think this will be something they can work with me on?

    • @nurseiveth5076
      @nurseiveth5076  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! I think it depends on your boss. Unfortunately orientations are long in the OR and they may require you not to take any time off. For example, I was not allowed vacation time until I was off orientation. But honestly if you speak with them maybe they will work with you!

    Im currently in my OR orientation and facing really similar frustrations.
    Are you also learning to scrub?

    • @nurseiveth5076
      @nurseiveth5076  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes! It helps a lot with knowing what you need for a case :)

    • @isadoracaffe2102

      @@nurseiveth5076 I scrub too. My biggest frustration is that I get jostled around so much, it’s hard to nail down one service or even procedure because I don’t get that repetition. Do you have any advice or tips?

  • @SN-wd8be
    @SN-wd8be ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Does anyone know if your own scrubs are needed during any part of this process (starting from hire)? Not trying to spend extra money on things I can’t afford right now. Thanks!

    • @nurseiveth5076
      @nurseiveth5076  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope! Operating rooms provide scrubs for you that you change into daily

    • @SN-wd8be
      @SN-wd8be ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nurseiveth5076 thanks for the reply! So just to clarify- we don’t need to wear our own scrubs for the classroom/lecture/modules portion of orientation that’s outside of the actual OR?

    • @nurseiveth5076
      @nurseiveth5076  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SN-wd8be Correct. I had some scrubs from when I was in nursing school and medical assisting, but once I ran out of them I would wear business casual clothes.

    Hello! I am starting my nurse residency in a few weeks and I don't know what to expect and super anxious. 😅
    What advice would you give to a new nurse starting at the OR? What does a typical day look like? Resources you find helpful?
    Thank you in advance

    • @nurseiveth5076
      @nurseiveth5076  ปีที่แล้ว

      Congratulations!! My biggest advice is to be patient with the learning process. It’s going to seem like a lot at first but you will get the hang of it especially once you’re on your own. My days are usually 10 hours long and I’ll have between 1-4 cases during that time. There’s not many resources out there for us, but AORN Peri op 101 with give you access to lectures for 1 year so use them! I would love to make a video to elaborate more :)
